Cohere describes granular permissions, deployment choices and agent guardrails; The Register reports access-control lists (ACLs) for libraries and skills. But the available materials do not establish an official, separately named “lockdown mode” or explain exactly how those controls are enforced.
What Cohere North 2 is
North 2 is Cohere’s redesigned platform for building and operating enterprise agents and automations. Cohere says it supports multi-step orchestration and offers reusable skills, shared libraries, memory, natural-language application creation, visual workflow building, monitoring and enterprise connectors. These are vendor-described capabilities, not independently evaluated product results. Cohere’s October 5, 2026 announcement presents North 2 as an enterprise platform rather than a standalone model.
Connectors and integrations
Cohere names Slack, SharePoint, OneDrive, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Exchange, Jira, Linear, Notion and GitHub among its connectors. The announcement also mentions financial data providers as planned integrations. A named connector in the announcement should not be taken to mean that it is available to every customer or generally available in every deployment; confirm availability and configuration with Cohere.
What the “lockdown mode” claim supports
The phrase “lockdown mode with strict ACLs” is stronger than what the available product descriptions establish. The Register’s October 5, 2026 report says administrators can assign ACLs to North 2 libraries and skills, and describes controls over token flows. Cohere’s announcement uses broader language: granular access controls and permissions, integration with existing identity systems, and guardrails at user and agent level.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Together, these sources support the claim that North 2 is designed to provide enterprise access and governance controls. They do not establish “lockdown mode” as the official name of a distinct switch or configuration profile. Nor do they explain the technical policy model, including inheritance, allow/deny precedence, or how permissions are evaluated at runtime.
ACLs can limit access to specified resources, but their existence alone does not prove that a system prevents prompt injection, data leakage or every unauthorized action. The announcement and report do not supply security test results that would justify those broader assurances.

Deployment, identity and oversight
Cohere says North 2 can be deployed self-hosted, in a virtual private cloud (VPC), in a hybrid configuration, on-premises or in an air-gapped environment. Those options may matter to organizations with data-location or network-separation requirements, but the announcement does not define the operating model for each option. Buyers should establish where data and logs reside, which services remain connected, and what “air-gapped” means for the proposed deployment.
Cohere says North Admin lets administrators manage roles and permissions, choose model access, and review activity and usage. The vendor also describes guardrails, autonomy policies, human oversight for critical actions and detailed change logs. These are statements about the advertised feature set—not an independent security audit or proof of how a particular customer’s configuration behaves.

Token governance and cost visibility
Cohere describes usage analytics, alerts, limits and consumption tiers by user and group as part of its governance and token controls. These features are intended to help administrators monitor and manage usage. The launch announcement gives no public price, quantified savings figure or cost benchmark, so buyers should not infer a particular financial outcome from the controls or from Cohere’s description.
What buyers should verify
Before choosing North 2, request deployment-specific answers and test the controls that matter to your environment. The launch materials describe capabilities, not comparative scores against other platforms or independent policy tests.

What the endorsements do—and don’t—show
Cohere’s announcement includes statements from customers and partners about security, control and enterprise use. For example, LG CNS’s Head of AI describes experience using North and bringing it to customers in Korea. Bell Cyber’s Chief Technology and AI Officer discusses privacy and sovereignty requirements. These are testimonials published by Cohere, not independent measurements of security effectiveness or customer outcomes.
The post also attributes a statement to NVIDIA’s Vice President of Generative AI that NVIDIA Blackwell and Hopper accelerate inference for Cohere models and help North 2.0 deliver more tokens for less. The quoted statement includes no numeric benchmark, so it does not establish a quantified performance or cost advantage.
