Its twist is that other users can act as “Matchers,” weighing in on potential pairs. Their input can help surface an introduction, but it does not make the match: each person decides whether to connect.
How Rivet’s “Social Matching” works
Rivet calls its model “Social Matching.” The app gives users two possible roles: they can look for dates themselves, help assess potential pairs as Matchers, or do both. The company says people can participate as Matchers even if they are not currently dating. Rivet’s September 24, 2026 launch announcement describes Matchers contributing to a score for a possible pair. When that score is high, the app may introduce the two people.
- People participate as daters, Matchers, or both. Matchers weigh in on potential pairs.
- Community input contributes to a score. A high score may lead Rivet to introduce the pair.
- The two daters make the decision. Neither person is automatically matched or required to start a conversation; each decides whether to proceed.
So “strangers vote on who should match” is a shorthand for community input that may help bring a pair together—not a vote that overrides either person’s choice.
Who founded Rivet, and when did it launch?
Taru Kapoor founded Rivet in 2025. The company identifies her as a former Tinder and Match Group executive; the Los Angeles Times report published September 28, 2026 says she spent eight years at Tinder and managed several Asian markets. Rivet is a product of MeantToBe, Inc., based in New York.

The company announced a nationwide U.S. launch on September 24, 2026. That announcement does not necessarily mean dating features are available everywhere: Rivet’s Google Play listing describes a citywise rollout and says the app is coming to some areas. No definitive coverage map is stated in the cited sources, so check the store listing or app directly for local access. The company says the app is free to download on iOS and Android; Google Play indicates in-app purchases, so free download should not be taken to mean every feature is free.
What is different from swipe-based dating?
In a typical swipe-based flow, people browse and make selections themselves. Rivet adds a community role: other users can help surface a potential pair through their input. The distinction is about discovery, not who controls the final decision.

Rivet’s launch release reports that 68% of surveyed Gen Z and Millennial respondents were interested in anonymously helping a person they did not know find a potential romantic match, provided that person kept the final decision. Censuswide conducted the survey for Rivet with 2,012 U.S. adults from September 15–18, 2026; the reported figures were 78% for Gen Z and 60% for Millennials. These are company-commissioned survey results about stated interest—not app usage or evidence that the model works. The release says a sample footnote was corrected from 2,013 to 2,012.

Kapoor framed the idea in the launch release this way: “Dating has always been social.” She also said Rivet is built on the belief that people understand chemistry and compatibility in a way algorithms cannot. Those are the founder’s explanations for the product, not independently established findings about matching accuracy. An early investor, former Tinder and OkCupid CEO Elie Seidman, likewise praised the concept in the release; his remarks are an investor’s opinion, not independent evidence of effectiveness.

What to consider before using a community-matching app
- Keep control in view. Rivet says Matchers can help surface introductions, while each potential date makes their own decision about connecting.
- Check local availability and costs. The nationwide launch announcement and citywise app-store rollout language do not guarantee dating access in every area. The download is described as free, but the Google Play listing notes in-app purchases.
- Treat claims and reviews according to their source. Company descriptions explain intended features; individual user reviews are anecdotes, not representative results. The cited sources do not provide controlled evidence that crowd input improves match quality, safety, or relationship success.
