Micron’s latest results and near-term forecast point to exceptionally strong demand and tight memory supply—not an established price peak. But they do not prove that memory prices cannot turn. And the idea that MU “dropped” after earnings depends on the observation window: The Associated Press reported a 3% rise on October 1, 2026, while Morningstar described the reaction as flat.
What Micron’s latest results show
Micron reported fiscal fourth-quarter 2026 revenue of $54.23 billion, up from $41.46 billion in the prior quarter and $11.32 billion in the year-earlier quarter. For the fiscal year ended September 3, 2026, revenue was $133.19 billion, compared with $37.38 billion in fiscal 2025. These are company-reported results, not forecasts.
| Period | Micron-reported revenue | Comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Fiscal Q4 2026 | $54.23 billion | $41.46 billion in the prior quarter; $11.32 billion in fiscal Q4 2025 |
| Fiscal 2026 | $133.19 billion | $37.38 billion in fiscal 2025 |
The figures establish the scale and speed of the recovery in Micron’s reported revenue. They do not, on their own, show whether the share price already reflects that improvement or whether memory prices have reached a cycle high.
What management expects next—and what it does not prove
Micron’s fiscal Q1 2027 guidance called for revenue of $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion; non-GAAP gross margin of approximately 86.25%; and non-GAAP diluted earnings per share of $38.15, plus or minus $1.00. These are management forecasts, not achieved results.

In October 1 coverage of the company’s outlook, Tom’s Hardware reported that Micron expected DRAM and NAND bit shipments to grow in the low-to-mid 20% ranges over the next two years. That is a forecast for the quantity of memory bits shipped, not for memory prices. Shipment growth can coexist with higher, stable, or falling average selling prices.
Why Micron says supply is tight
In its fiscal Q3 2026 Form 10-Q, Micron said AI-driven demand for memory and storage in data centers was growing faster than the company and the broader industry could increase supply. Micron attributed stronger pricing and profitability to robust DRAM and NAND demand combined with constrained supply. This is management’s explanation of market conditions, not an independent industry consensus.
The prior quarter’s results show why it matters to separate price from shipment volume. Micron reported sequential fiscal Q3 2026 DRAM sales growth of 67%, primarily due to a low-60% range increase in average selling prices and low-single-digit bit shipment growth. NAND sales grew 99%, primarily due to a mid-80% range increase in average selling prices and mid-single-digit bit shipment growth. These figures are for fiscal Q3, not Q4, and should not be read as a current-quarter price measure.

Strong margins are not the same across every business
Micron reported the following fiscal Q4 operating margins by business unit. They are operating margins, not gross margins; the separate 86.25% figure in the company’s outlook is a non-GAAP gross-margin forecast.

| Business unit | Fiscal Q4 2026 operating margin |
|---|---|
| Cloud Memory | 76% |
| Core Data Center | 85% |
| Mobile and Client | 88% |
| Automotive and Embedded | 79% |
These differences are a reminder that a company-wide result reflects product and customer mix as well as market pricing. A change in which products or business units contribute most can affect reported performance even if the overall memory market remains strong.
Why a strong outlook cannot rule out a memory-price peak
Micron’s Form 10-Q also describes risks that cut against a one-way scarcity thesis. If demand weakens for PCs, smartphones, automobiles, servers, or other devices that use memory, memory demand and average selling prices could decline, reducing product sales. Customers may also modify, delay, or cancel orders. Constraints today therefore do not establish that future demand will absorb all available supply or that prices will keep rising.

Micron says some strategic customer agreements are multi-year, take-or-pay arrangements with binding volume commitments. Most include either fixed pricing or minimum and maximum pricing. The company says the contracts improve customer supply assurance and its visibility into performance. They do not mean every sale is fixed-price, nor do they insulate the wider memory market from a shift in demand or pricing.
The disagreement about a peak is consequently not settled by one quarter’s earnings. Micron’s reported outlook points to tight supply-demand conditions extending into calendar 2027 and 2028. Morningstar’s October 1, 2026 search-result excerpt offered the opposing valuation-and-cycle concern: much of the upswing may already be reflected in the share price, with future supply growth creating later pricing pressure. Those are different claims—one about expected market conditions, the other about what investors may already have priced in—and the reviewed evidence does not establish a definite date for a memory-price peak.
Did MU actually fall after earnings?
There is no single unqualified post-earnings stock move supported by the contemporaneous accounts. The Associated Press reported that Micron shares rose 3% on October 1, 2026, after the company reported results and stronger forecasts. Morningstar characterized the market reaction as flat. The accounts may refer to different observation windows; they do not establish a sustained decline after the earnings report. Any claim that MU “dropped” should specify the session, intraday time, or comparison point.

How to judge the next signs of a peak
Investors assessing whether the cycle is turning should distinguish operating momentum from valuation and watch several measures together:
- DRAM and NAND average selling prices: Compare price trends with bit shipments. Rising shipments alone do not show that pricing power is holding.
- Demand and order behavior: Watch for evidence of weaker end-market demand or customers modifying, delaying, or canceling orders—the risks Micron identifies in its filing.
- Business-unit mix: Consider how results across Cloud Memory, Core Data Center, Mobile and Client, and Automotive and Embedded contribute to the company-wide outcome.
- Supply commitments versus market exposure: Strategic agreements can improve visibility for committed volumes, but they do not describe every customer or transaction.
- Earnings versus expectations: Strong reported results can still disappoint investors if share-price expectations were higher. The cited figures do not provide a valuation analysis or establish what expectations are embedded in MU’s price.
The available evidence supports a clear but limited conclusion: Micron entered fiscal Q1 2027 with very strong reported results and management guidance, while the company described demand outpacing supply. It does not settle whether the share price has already discounted that strength or when memory prices may peak.
