Amazon says the interface is available worldwide on current-generation Fire TV Sticks and Amazon Ember TVs. The new Alexa+ search and hub features are scheduled to start reaching selected U.S. devices in November 2026.
What the free Fire TV update changes
Amazon says the redesigned interface began rolling out in February 2026 and was available worldwide by its June update on current-generation Fire TV Stick devices and Amazon Ember smart TVs. Current-generation Fire TV Cube devices purchased globally also ship with the redesigned interface, according to Amazon’s June 22, 2026 announcement.
The redesign changes how viewers find apps and content rather than requiring a new streaming device. Amazon lists these interface changes:
- More organized layouts, with updated typography and colors.
- The ability to rearrange apps on the home screen.
- A shortcut panel opened by long-pressing the Home button.
- Easier access to Games, Art & Photos, and Ambient Experience.
Amazon says rebuilding underlying code for the interface produced speed gains of up to 20–30% in some cases on devices customers already own. That is Amazon’s claim; its announcement does not describe a testing protocol or provide an independent benchmark.

What Alexa+ adds—and when it arrives
Amazon’s September 30, 2026 announcement describes a later set of Alexa+ entertainment features. For search, Amazon says Alexa+ will combine real-world context—such as awards, events, and cultural references—with a customer’s subscriptions and watch history. It is designed to handle follow-up questions in a threaded conversation, so a viewer can refine recommendations without starting over. The examples below are prompts Amazon supplied, not independent accuracy tests:
- Ask for Marvel films in timeline order.
- Find shows nominated for recent Emmys that were “snubbed.”
- Look for highly rated book-to-screen adaptations.
- Ask for a top-rated thriller, then refine the result with “something newer” or “with a female lead.”
The planned Alexa+ hub on Fire TV will offer personalized prompt suggestions and access to recent Alexa+ conversations across devices. A viewer could resume a conversation that began on an Echo or in the Alexa app.

These new Fire TV Alexa+ features are not part of the same timing announcement as the interface redesign. Amazon says their U.S. rollout begins in November 2026 for Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), Fire TV Cube, Amazon Ember TVs, and partner TVs with Fire TV built in, including Hisense and TCL. Amazon says the features will expand to the new Fire TV Stick 4K and more countries early next year; that is a future plan, not a guarantee of present availability.
Alexa+ availability and possible plan requirements
Alexa+ itself is already rolling out at no additional cost to eligible U.S. customers with compatible Fire TV devices, regardless of Prime membership, according to Amazon’s August 2026 announcement. Amazon says customers do not need to take action, download an app, or activate a subscription to receive that included experience.

That does not mean every Alexa+ capability is included for every viewer. Amazon says some additional features—including Alexa Routines, access to specific Ring camera moments, and advanced Home Modes—require Prime membership or an Alexa+ Standard Plan. The announcement also lists a company-reported measure: customers selected Alexa’s top movie recommendation over 40% more frequently for search queries than with original Alexa. Amazon does not provide the methodology in the announcement.
Fire TV mobile app discovery tools
Amazon says the Fire TV mobile app is also gaining discovery features, with rollout starting in the U.S. in 2026 and expansion to more countries early next year. The announcement gives no exact date. Planned features include:

- Text and voice search, recommendations, and the ability to add titles to a watchlist.
- Sharing an article or listicle to create a curated list of titles.
- Using a photo as inspiration for show or movie recommendations, with information on which streaming services carry them.
- Starting playback by linking to a streaming-service app; Amazon says the title can then appear in Fire TV’s Continue Watching row.
Amazon’s announcement does not establish that every title or service is available in every country or subscription tier.

Live TV and games
Amazon says live content from more than 40 apps is integrated into the Fire TV experience, naming DirecTV, Peacock, Sling, Tubi, and YouTube TV as examples. The Games hub brings Xbox, Luna, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, and Weekend together in one experience. The announcement does not promise universal availability across regions, services, or subscription tiers.

Amazon Music app
A redesigned Amazon Music app for Fire TV is planned for later in fall 2026. Amazon describes a single app for music, music videos, video podcasts, live concerts, artist performances, festival livestreams, and original content. This is a planned release, not a feature Amazon said was already available.
What Amazon’s figures do—and do not—show
Amazon says Gracenote research found people in the U.S. spent an average of 12 minutes searching for something to watch, up from 10.5 minutes in 2023. The figures were reported by Amazon in 2026; its announcement does not include the underlying Gracenote report. Amazon also says viewers find something to watch tens of millions more times per month after the redesigned experience, without publishing methodology for that figure.
Those figures help explain Amazon’s focus on discovery, but they are not independent evaluations of the interface or Alexa+ recommendations. The company’s own announcements are the primary sources for its feature descriptions and rollout plans, not independent tests of accuracy, speed, or user outcomes.
