Not necessarily. NVIDIA says its Open Agent Safety Platform can restrict an agent’s actions with OpenShell and quarantine it with Sentry. But stopping or isolating a running agent is not the same as invalidating every credential it may have copied, ending sessions at connected services, or undoing actions it already completed. Those steps depend on the credential issuer and the systems the agent accessed.
What NVIDIA’s platform is designed to do
NVIDIA announced the Open Agent Safety Platform on September 28, 2026. It pairs OpenShell, open-source runtime software, with Sentry, a reference system design for an additional containment layer. NVIDIA describes the combined approach as governance across software, compute, and robotics systems.
OpenShell operates at the agent runtime boundary. NVIDIA says it runs agents in sandboxes and enforces operator-defined limits on files, network access, tools, processes, and credentials. Those limits are checked before execution and enforced while the agent works. See NVIDIA’s platform announcement and its technical blog for the company’s descriptions.
Sentry is described by NVIDIA as an out-of-band watchdog running on BlueField-4 DPUs. With DOCA, NVIDIA says it inspects agent requests and responses, provides telemetry, verifies identity, and enforces granular policies for data, tools, APIs, and services. The company says the Sentry trust domain is isolated from the host and workload. These are vendor-described capabilities, not independent validation.

Three different meanings of “revoke access”
The distinction matters because “stop the agent” can refer to different controls, with different reach:
- Block or constrain future actions: OpenShell can enforce configured restrictions on resources that are within its controlled runtime boundaries. This can prevent an agent from making a disallowed request through those boundaries; it does not establish control over every route to an external service.
- Contain the running agent: NVIDIA says Sentry can detect an agent crossing its boundary and quarantine it. NVIDIA’s September 28, 2026 announcement says this can happen “in milliseconds.” That is the company’s timing claim; the sources reviewed do not provide an independent benchmark.
- Invalidate credentials or reverse completed effects: The NVIDIA materials reviewed do not establish that the platform universally invalidates copied credentials, terminates sessions at every connected service, or reverses completed API calls, file changes, messages, or transactions. Credential revocation must be supported by the service that issued or accepts the credential; completed effects generally require separate recovery or remediation.
Does OpenShell require BlueField hardware?
No, according to NVIDIA’s product materials: OpenShell can be deployed without BlueField-4. Sentry is the additional hardware-backed layer in the reference design, not a prerequisite for every OpenShell deployment. A software-only OpenShell setup and an OpenShell deployment paired with Sentry therefore should not be treated as identical security architectures.

What to check before relying on quarantine
A quarantine control is most useful when requests and credentials are arranged so the enforcement point can actually deny them. For a deployment, establish:
- Where secrets live: Are tokens held by a gateway or secret manager, or exposed to the agent process where they could be copied?
- Which requests are mediated: Do the agent’s API, network, file, and tool actions pass through the policies that OpenShell or Sentry enforce, or are there bypass paths?
- How credentials are revoked: Can the service owner revoke the token, expire it, or terminate associated sessions? Quarantining the agent alone does not answer this.
- What happens to in-flight work: Determine whether quarantine blocks only new requests or also interrupts requests already underway; the reviewed NVIDIA descriptions do not specify this for every deployment.
- What can be audited: Confirm that logs capture policy decisions and enough activity to determine whether data left the controlled boundary, while protecting logs from unauthorized access.
Why containment is only one part of agent security
NVIDIA’s NeMo Agent Toolkit security guidance lists risks including tool misuse, unauthorized data access, unintended API calls, command execution, resource exhaustion, data leakage, and credential exposure. Its recommended design measures include role-based access control, rate limiting, sandboxing or containerization, least privilege, secret management, log scrubbing, and access controls for logs.
