A Sony UBP-X700 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player appeared on Best Buy for $49.99, but the retailer marked it unavailable when checked on October 7, 2026. That is evidence of a listed clearance price—not a player you can currently count on buying for under $100.
What the under-$100 listing actually tells you
Best Buy’s listing identifies the Sony UBPX700 as a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. On October 7, 2026, it showed a $49.99 clearance price and the status “Unavailable.” Check the Best Buy listing for current status; its price and availability can change.
The same listing showed a 4.6-out-of-5 rating from 5,819 reviews and a 94% recommendation rate. Those are Best Buy’s retailer review metrics as displayed on October 7, 2026, not independent product-test results or measures of the wider market.
The accessible excerpt of the Pocket-lint article behind the headline does not identify its recommended model. The Sony listing therefore cannot establish that the UBP-X700 is the article’s intended pick. Sony’s hosted UBP-X700 reviews page includes a review dated April 25, 2024, praising sharp 4K and HD Blu-ray playback while noting limited app selection. That is one user review, not a comprehensive test.

How to confirm a player really plays 4K discs
Look for explicit support for Ultra HD Blu-ray discs. A standard Blu-ray player that upscales video to 4K is not the same as a player that reads native 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs. Before buying, confirm the exact model number and disc-format support in the product specifications rather than relying on phrases such as “4K upscaling.”
Check your collection and connections
Compatibility varies by model. Samsung’s official page for the older UBD-K8500 lists Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, standard Blu-ray, DVD and CD playback, as well as two HDMI outputs, Ethernet and Wi-Fi. It also says an HDMI cable is not included and indicates the player is unavailable for sale. Those details apply to the Samsung UBD-K8500 only; they do not establish the Sony UBP-X700’s specifications or package contents.

- Confirm support for each disc type you intend to play, including DVDs or CDs if you own them.
- Check the available video and audio connections against your TV, receiver or sound system.
- Verify HDR and other format support against the discs and display you plan to use; the cited specifications do not establish a full Sony-versus-Samsung comparison.
- Check whether the player’s network or streaming features matter to you, and do not assume app availability is the same as disc compatibility.
- Confirm what is included in the box before purchasing accessories. The Samsung page’s cable note applies to that model, not to Sony.

- Check live stock and price. Reopen the retailer listing close to purchase; the Sony’s $49.99 figure was paired with an unavailable status on October 7, 2026.
- Confirm the exact model and condition. Make sure the listing is for a native Ultra HD Blu-ray player and clearly describes whether the unit is new, open-box or used.
- Review compatibility and package contents. Match the supported discs and connections to your setup, then check which cables or accessories are actually included.
- Compare the full purchase terms. Check shipping, returns and warranty information on the current seller listing; these terms were not established by the cited price snapshot.
