The Foundation says the program targets finality in seconds rather than days, but its announcement supplies no independent performance benchmark or production transaction data. It also says the program is not yet at broad production release and is seeking design partners.
What is delivery-versus-payment (DvP)?
Delivery-versus-payment links the exchange of an asset to the exchange of its payment. In an atomic DvP transaction, both legs complete together or neither completes. That is intended to reduce principal exposure: the risk that one party transfers an asset but does not receive the agreed payment.
For example, a bond seller and a buyer paying in USDC could have the bond and payment move through the same settlement arrangement. The point is not simply to make each transfer faster; it is to coordinate them so one side cannot complete while the other remains outstanding. DvP does not, by itself, eliminate every counterparty, operational, legal, custody, or market risk.
What did the Solana Foundation announce?
On October 6, 2026, the Solana Foundation described Solana DvP as an MIT-licensed, open-source escrow program with an API for DvP settlement on Solana. The Foundation says it provides isolated escrow for trades and enforces deadlines, positioning it as a shared alternative to institutions building bespoke smart contracts for on-chain settlement.

The Foundation says the program supports SPL Token and Token-2022, including tokens using extensions such as permanent delegate, pausable tokens, and transfer hooks. It says two counterparties can use a settlement agent—such as a bank, custodian, or exchange—to facilitate a trade. Those are capabilities stated by the Foundation; the announcement does not provide independent testing or adoption data for them.
How does Solana DvP work?
The developer guide describes a staged flow. Creating a trade records its terms and creates two escrow accounts, but does not move tokens. Each party then funds its own escrow leg. The participants can proceed to settlement or use the documented recovery actions if the trade does not complete as intended.

- Create the trade: record the trade terms and establish the two escrow accounts. No tokens move at this step.
- Fund each leg: each counterparty deposits the asset or payment it is responsible for into its escrow account.
- Settle or recover: use the program’s settlement path when the required conditions are met, or the available cancel, reject, or reclaim actions when applicable.
The Foundation presents the escrow design as a reusable standard, rather than a requirement that every institution invent its own settlement contract. The exact integration and operational controls still matter: a shared program does not make trade terms, asset eligibility, custody arrangements, or participant checks interchangeable.
Does Solana DvP settle in seconds?
The Foundation says Solana DvP aims for finality “in seconds instead of days.” It contrasts that target with its statement that traditional settlement processes can tie up capital for one to two days. These are the Foundation’s claims and framing, not independently established measurements of this new program. The announcement gives no benchmark methodology, sample size, production transaction history, or comparable cost figure.

Settlement-time comparisons are meaningful only when they use the same definition of completion and comparable transaction types. A transaction appearing on-chain, reaching the program’s settlement condition, and being operationally final for all parties may not be identical milestones. The announcement does not define a measurement method that would allow an outside reader to compare those milestones with traditional settlement.
The developer guide also cautions that Solana’s on-chain clock can differ from wall-clock time by tens of seconds and may jump forward. Expiry can be set no more than one year after trade creation, and the guide advises leaving a margin rather than treating expiry as a second-precise deadline. Reclaim, cancel, and reject actions become available after expiry. This clock caveat concerns deadline handling; it is not a measure of settlement duration.

Did J.P. Morgan build Solana DvP?
No. The Foundation says J.P. Morgan contributed input on institutional settlement practices and requirements. It explicitly says that contribution should not be taken to mean the bank designed, developed, operates, approves, certifies, warrants, endorses, or guarantees Solana DvP or its performance.
J.P. Morgan’s Rhodel D’souza, Head of Markets Digital Assets, said the firm was “pleased to contribute our settlement expertise.” That statement describes the contribution; it is not evidence that the bank is a customer, operator, or endorser of the program.

Is Solana DvP live for production?
The Foundation says the program has undergone external security audits and is ready for use with real funds, while also inviting design partners and early participants ahead of production release. These statements describe the Foundation’s view of its readiness and its release stage; they do not establish broad production deployment. The announcement does not name the auditor or link audit reports, and it provides no production-user count.
For developers, the guide stated as of October 2, 2026, that no DvP client package had been published. It instructed developers to generate clients from the repository IDL and use them from source. That is a dated integration detail and may change; check the current developer documentation before relying on it.
What is planned, and what remains unproven?
- Privacy: the Foundation says privacy features are planned so settlements can be private and confidential. The launch materials do not establish those features as currently available.
- Security assurance: the Foundation reports external audits and readiness for real funds, but does not identify the audit firm or publish reports in the announcement.
- Performance and adoption: the launch materials provide no independently measured settlement-time results, named production users, or deployment count.
- Regulatory status: the Foundation says its announcement is informational, not legal, tax, or investment advice, and that no regulator has approved or endorsed the matters described. Tokenized securities and their treatment depend on the relevant jurisdiction and arrangement.
For now, Solana DvP is best understood as a newly announced shared settlement program with a documented escrow workflow and a Foundation-stated speed target—not as independently verified evidence that institutional settlement has already shifted to a production rail.
