Ukraine’s ATB grocery chain confirmed an attempted cyberattack on company resources. A group claiming responsibility threatened to publish data it said belonged to 7.9 million customers, but the reports did not independently verify the data or the claimed breach scale. ATB said personal and confidential data was not affected because it is not stored on the attacked resources.
What happened at ATB?
On October 5, 2026, ATB confirmed an attack attempt on company resources after an extortion message appeared on its website. The company temporarily took some online services offline for what it described as technical maintenance. Recorded Future News reported that the website was unavailable at the time of publication; that dated report does not establish its current status. ATB spokesperson Serhii Demchenko told UNN that company resources were being restored and were expected to return to normal soon, but the reports do not confirm when restoration was completed. Recorded Future News and UNN reported these details.
What did the hackers claim?
The group calling itself DataSuckers claimed responsibility, demanded $400,000, and threatened to publish information it said it had stolen from millions of customers. Recorded Future News reported the group’s claim that it held data for 7.9 million customers, including contact details and password hashes. These are attacker claims: the reporting said neither the authenticity of the data nor the claimed scale of the breach could be independently verified. A group’s claim of responsibility or publication of purported samples does not, on its own, validate the data or establish who accessed it. Recorded Future News and Ukrainska Pravda reported the demand and claimed dataset.
What does ATB say about customer data?
ATB’s position, relayed by spokesperson Serhii Demchenko and the company press service, is that no personal or confidential data was affected because such data is not stored on the attacked resources or servers. UNN quoted Demchenko as saying the attack did not affect personal or confidential information and that no personal data is stored on those resources. Ukrinform reported the press service’s statement that personal data was not affected because it is not stored on the attacked servers. These reports establish what ATB said, not an independently confirmed technical assessment of the incident’s full scope. UNN and Ukrinform reported the company’s account.

What is and is not established
- Confirmed by ATB: an attack attempt on company resources occurred.
- Claimed by DataSuckers: it obtained data for 7.9 million customers and demanded $400,000 to prevent publication.
- Not independently verified in the reporting: whether the alleged dataset is authentic, how many people—if any—were affected, what information may have been accessed, and whether any data was ultimately exposed.
- Not established: the technical entry path, a confirmed customer impact, or the final restoration status of online services.
The reports reviewed do not cite an independent forensic finding, a confirmed count of affected people, or a regulator or law-enforcement conclusion about the incident.
What should ATB customers do?
The available reporting does not establish that customer accounts or personal data were compromised, so it does not support treating the attackers’ claimed dataset as confirmed. Customers who want to check for updates should use ATB’s official communications and rely on a specific notice from the company or a relevant authority rather than an extortion post or reposted sample. If ATB later confirms that credentials were exposed, customers should follow its instructions and change any reused password on other services.
