The game described as “astonishingly beautiful” on PS5 Pro is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the open-world RPG first released in 2015. Its remaster launched on September 29, 2026, with PS5 Pro support for PSSR, VRR, and uncapped frame rates. The striking phrase comes from a community reaction reported by ComicBook.com, not an independent visual test or a measured consensus.

Why players are calling The Witcher 3 beautiful on PS5 Pro

ComicBook.com reported that a post on the PS5 Pro subreddit described the remastered game as “astonishingly beautiful.” The same coverage noted criticism from players who found the image oversaturated or too bright. Those are contrasting reactions, not a representative survey or objective image-quality measurements.

CD PROJEKT RED’s remaster adds visual and rendering updates, including PSSR support on PS5 Pro, updated textures and models based on assets from the Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project, revised tone mapping, and changes to foliage lighting and shading. These features help explain the interest in the remaster, but the publisher’s feature list is not an independent assessment of how the game looks on every display.

What the PS5 Pro graphics modes offer

CD PROJEKT RED lists two graphics modes. Its frame-rate figures are targets and publisher claims; they have not been independently measured here.

Mode Publisher description Frame-rate claim
Ray Tracing Mode Enhanced lighting Targets 60 FPS
Performance Mode Higher resolution Targets 60 FPS; can reach up to 90 FPS on a VRR-capable display

The up-to-90-FPS statement is conditional on a VRR-capable display; it is not a guarantee that every setup will reach that figure. PSSR, VRR, and uncapped frame rates are features listed by CD PROJEKT RED. The publisher says PSSR is intended to deliver higher visual fidelity without compromising performance, but that wording describes the feature’s intended benefit rather than a third-party test result.

What else changed in the remaster

The remaster includes a broader set of rendering and gameplay updates. CD PROJEKT RED’s feature notes cover multiple platforms, so not every item below should be assumed to be PS5 Pro-specific.

Lighting changes after launch

On October 1, 2026, CD PROJEKT RED released Patch 5.00b, saying it made “various lighting adjustments,” including fixes for some interiors that appeared too dark. That confirms the publisher adjusted lighting after release. It does not establish that oversaturation was a widespread problem, that every visual complaint was fixed, or that players broadly agree on the result. The same patch notice mentions a DLSS issue on Xbox Play Anywhere PC; that issue is not a PS5 Pro problem. Read the Patch 5.00b notes for details.

Do existing owners need to buy the remaster?

CD PROJEKT RED says owners of the existing game can upgrade to the remaster for free within the same platform ecosystem. Its announcement says the upgrade applies to physical and digital owners, and that existing base-game owners receive the two original expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, which are included in the remastered base game. Check the current store for the entitlement that applies to your region and platform before purchasing.

New buyers can find the remaster on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, according to the publisher’s announcement. A PS5 Pro or VRR-capable display is not required to play. See CD PROJEKT RED’s release announcement for the listed platforms and upgrade information.
