Apple has not announced a “MacBook Ultra” or confirmed an OLED touchscreen Mac. The latest reporting describes a possible high-end MacBook Pro redesign with OLED, touch input and 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. Reports point to a possible fall 2026 introduction, but early 2027 remains possible; the product name, specifications, price and release date are all unconfirmed.
What is the “MacBook Ultra” rumor?
“MacBook Ultra” is a speculative name for a possible premium MacBook, not a product Apple has announced. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman’s February 24, 2026 report described Apple’s first touch-enabled Macs as forthcoming MacBook Pros, citing people familiar with Apple’s plans. Later coverage said Apple might position a new high-end laptop above existing MacBook Pro models, while retaining the MacBook Pro name. MacRumors’ March 8 summary likewise treated “Ultra” as uncertain.
That distinction matters: the reports describe a possible redesign, not a confirmed product, and Apple has not confirmed the rumored name or the device itself in the sources available.
Will the next MacBook Pro have an OLED touchscreen?
OLED and touch input are among the most consistent elements in the reporting. MacRumors’ September 23, 2026 MacBook Pro roundup summarized reports pointing to touchscreen OLED models in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. The rumored design would add touch interaction while retaining the familiar keyboard and trackpad; it is not described as replacing them.

Reported design changes
- Display: OLED with touch input is reported, but Apple has not announced panel details or specifications.
- Dynamic Island: In his February 24 Bloomberg report, Gurman wrote that Apple’s initial touch Macs would have a Dynamic Island centered at the top of the display, attributing the claim to unnamed people familiar with plans that were not public. Read the Bloomberg report.
- Chassis: MacRumors’ roundup reported on October 4 that Gurman described the MacBook Pro models as “significantly lighter” and said Apple had reengineered their interiors to reduce weight. This is attributed reporting, not a published weight measurement. Other reports summarized there mention a thinner design and reinforced hinge.
When could the rumored MacBook arrive?
Current reporting places a possible introduction in fall 2026, but no date is confirmed. MacRumors’ September roundup collected reports suggesting an October-to-December 2026 or early-2027 window and noted that supply constraints could affect timing. An October 1 item on that page quoted Gurman saying an October or November introduction was possible: “Apple, I believe, will introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro this fall, as early as October.” That is a forecast from Gurman’s Power On podcast, not an Apple announcement.
Even if Apple introduces a product in fall 2026, the reports do not establish when it would ship or become available to buy.

Which chips and sizes are being reported?
The reports point to 14-inch and 16-inch models, potentially powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Those are reported possibilities, not confirmed configurations. The available coverage does not establish final chip options, memory or storage configurations, or exact display properties.
How much might a MacBook Ultra cost?
No reliable price for the rumored machine has been reported in the sources reviewed. For comparison only, MacRumors reported that after a June 2026 price increase, the current M5 Pro MacBook Pro started at $2,499 for the 14-inch model and $2,999 for the 16-inch model. Those are reported prices for current MacBook Pro models—not estimates or announced prices for a future OLED touchscreen Mac.

Should you buy a MacBook Pro now or wait?
Decide based on when you need a computer, whether touch and OLED would materially help your work, and how comfortable you are with an unknown price and schedule. These are ways to make a decision under uncertainty, not signs that the rumored laptop is confirmed.
Buy now if you need a Mac soon
A current MacBook Pro with M5 Pro is a concrete alternative if you need a computer before the rumored model might arrive. The reported starting prices above provide context for those current models, but do not predict what a redesigned laptop might cost.

Wait if the rumored changes matter to you
If you specifically want an OLED touchscreen MacBook and can comfortably keep using your current computer, waiting may let you see whether Apple actually announces one. The reporting suggests those features could be part of a redesign, but does not guarantee they will ship.
Do not wait solely for the “Ultra” name
The name itself is unsettled. Reports say Apple could keep the MacBook Pro name, so a decision based on the word “Ultra” risks treating speculation as a product announcement.
