Play Now, The W and MyWNBA are also listed as offline modes that remain playable. MyCAREER and MyTEAM are different: 2K says both become unavailable when online services end. The game is scheduled to leave sale on October 30, 2026, with service retirement on December 31; online access ends January 1, 2027.
What modes can you still play after NBA 2K25 servers shut down?
According to 2K’s NBA 2K25: Server Sunset notice, existing owners can still redownload the game and play its offline modes after retirement. 2K names Play Now, MyNBA, The W and MyWNBA as modes that remain playable. Its online services status page also lists 2KU/Learn 2K among offline modes.
That does not mean every feature inside those modes will survive. Multiplayer, Online Leagues and community sharing depend on online services and will no longer work. Treat the modes as offline experiences after the cutoff, not as a way to keep playing online with other people.
Which NBA 2K25 mode is best for you?
There is no established universal ranking of NBA 2K25’s modes. The most useful choice depends on how you want to play and whether you need the mode to remain available after the shutdown.

MyNBA and MyGM: best for an enduring franchise
MyNBA is the strongest pick if you want a team-building mode with a future beyond the server cutoff. 2K highlights The Steph Era, which lets players revisit or rewrite the 2017 Golden State Warriors’ championship legacy. On New Gen, MyGM adds a role-playing general-manager experience. MyNBA remains on 2K’s offline list, though online-dependent options such as Online Leagues will not.
Play Now: best for a quick basketball game
Choose Play Now when you want to get into a match without committing to a season, story or collection grind. The mode is listed as playable offline, making it a practical option for local or solo play after service retirement. Do not confuse that with online multiplayer, which will be unavailable.

The W and MyWNBA: best for WNBA play
The W offers a path toward becoming a WNBA legend, while MyWNBA provides WNBA team play. 2K lists both as offline experiences that remain playable. Their offline availability does not establish that online features will continue.
Learn 2K / 2KU: best for practice
2K’s launch announcement describes tutorials, mini-games, drills and practice scenarios in its learning mode. The online services status page lists 2KU/Learn 2K as offline, so it is useful for learning controls or practicing without relying on an online match.

MyCAREER: best for story fans before the cutoff
MyCAREER’s Heart of a Dynasty flashback story and player-progression arc make it the story-driven choice while services are still operating. But “career” does not mean it remains a standalone offline mode: 2K says MyCAREER will no longer be available beginning January 1, 2027. Play it before then if that experience matters to you.
MyTEAM: best for collection play while services remain live
MyTEAM is built around collecting players and competing in modes such as Triple Threat Park, Breakout, Showdown and King of the Court; 2K also announced the Auction House’s return. Its dependence on online services is decisive for anyone considering a long-term mode: 2K says MyTEAM will no longer be available from January 1, 2027, and VC can no longer be earned then.

The City: best for online social play on New Gen
2K promoted The City features including the Boulevard of the Stars, ranked Proving Grounds, MyCOURT and returning MyPARKS. These are aimed at online-facing social and competitive play, so The City is a choice for playing while servers remain live, not a durable post-shutdown mode.

Can you play MyNBA offline?
Yes. 2K lists MyNBA among the modes that remain playable offline after service retirement, so it is the most defensible choice for a franchise experience that can continue without 2K’s online services. Online Leagues and other server-dependent features will not work. If you want to play with other people online, that experience does not survive the retirement.
Does platform or edition change which features you get?
NBA 2K25 was announced for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. Features differ by generation: 2K identifies PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC as New Gen platforms, where ProPLAY and The City are available. Crossplay is limited to New Gen PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; it does not include PC in 2K’s announcement.
Check the platform and generation before choosing a mode based on a specific feature. 2K also announced a North American physical WNBA Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Since purchase availability is scheduled to end October 30, 2026, confirm current stock and edition with the retailer rather than relying on an old launch listing. The publisher’s NBA 2K25 features and editions announcement describes the launch platforms and editions.
What do NBA 2K25’s feature counts tell you?
In its September 6, 2024 launch announcement, 2K said ProPLAY translated 9,000 new animations from real NBA footage, including 1,500 dribbling animations, 1,100 signature shot animations covering most players on 2023–24 rosters, and 1,300 off-ball animations. Those are publisher-reported counts, not an independent measure of which mode plays best or how much better the animations feel. 2K also described seasonal rewards arriving every six weeks at launch; that historical cadence is not a promise that seasons continue through or after the shutdown. See the NBA 2K25 launch announcement for 2K’s feature descriptions.
