What’s actually slowing this PC down?

For Gears of War: E-Day, buy storage for the platform you play on—not just for a speed claim. The PC version requires an SSD, but the available game information does not establish that an ultra-fast model improves performance or that 2TB is required. On Xbox Series X|S, a compatible expansion card is the direct-play option; a regular PC NVMe SSD is not a substitute.
What storage does Gears of War: E-Day require?
The PC listing says an SSD is required, but it does not establish a required PCIe generation, a particular SSD speed, or a benefit from choosing a faster drive. The Xbox store lists the game for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC, with Xbox Play Anywhere support. Xbox’s game page lists October 6, 2026 as the release date. Steam’s listing specifies the PC SSD requirement.
Windows Central’s September 28, 2026 storage guide reports a 115GB install requirement, attributing the figure to the Steam listing. Treat that as a launch-era reported figure, not a guaranteed ongoing free-space requirement; check the current store listing before installing. Windows Central’s Xbox storage guide also describes console expansion options.
Which storage should you buy for your platform?
PC: choose a compatible SSD for capacity, not an unproven speed boost
If you play on PC and need room, a 2TB NVMe SSD can be a reasonable capacity target, provided your PC has a compatible M.2 slot and interface. Check your computer or motherboard specifications before buying. E-Day’s SSD requirement does not show that a particular high-speed drive will make the game load or run better; no specific PCIe generation or model is established by the game listing.

Compare the drive’s usable capacity, warranty, manufacturer specifications, and current price. The available information does not verify a price drop for a particular 2TB SSD, so the title’s “while its price falls” claim should not be treated as a confirmed trend. Check a dated product listing and price history if timing a purchase around a sale matters to you.
Xbox Series X|S: use a compatible expansion card for direct play
Xbox storage works differently from a PC M.2 upgrade. Windows Central describes plug-and-play expansion cards that let players run games directly from the card, including a 2TB Seagate option. A standard PC NVMe SSD is not interchangeable with a dedicated Xbox expansion card. External drives can store games, but the guide says games must be transferred to internal storage before play.

Before purchasing, confirm the product is explicitly compatible with Xbox Series X|S and supports playing games directly from the card. Check current price and availability: the guide notes these can change. The 2TB option is a storage choice, not evidence that E-Day itself requires 2TB of free space.

The sources establish an SSD requirement for PC and report a 115GB launch-era install figure, but they do not establish that the game requires 2TB. A 2TB drive or card makes sense if you want extra room for E-Day alongside other games; for a single installation, assess the current listed space requirement and how much free storage your device already has.
