Games Workshop was seeking a Head of IT to oversee global IT, customer technology and major systems change under a fixed-term contract described as covering the next two years, according to a report published by The Register on 5 October 2026. The vacancy was reported closed for applications over that weekend, so it should not be treated as currently open.
What the reported Head of IT role covers
The Register said the role would report to Games Workshop’s chief operating officer and lead global IT and customer technology. It described a remit spanning the core technology estate, information security, major systems change and customer-facing platforms, including warhammer.com. The role was also expected to advise senior management on technology, security, risk and investment.
The Register reproduced this wording from the LinkedIn job listing: “The role has a broad remit spanning our core technology estate, information security, major systems change and the technology behind our customer-facing digital platforms, including warhammer.com.” The listing could not be retrieved directly, so the report is the available source for the vacancy’s wording. It did not establish the successful candidate, compensation, detailed qualifications or exact contract dates.
Why ERP is central to the story
Games Workshop’s enterprise-systems work has a multi-year history. In January 2021, The Register reported that the company had delayed a Microsoft Dynamics-based ERP rollout and appointed a new integrator after an earlier target go-live in 2020 had slipped. That is historical context, not evidence of the project’s current vendor arrangements or schedule.

The company’s 2026 annual report says issues with the project were affecting development of online-shopping features in September 2021. The report also recounts that Games Workshop added £500,000 to the project budget in January 2022. That figure was a historical increase—not the project’s total budget or its current spend. In 2023, the company told investors that completing projects and upgrading systems remained a focus, while progress was costing more time and money.
What Games Workshop disclosed in 2026
In its annual report for the 52 weeks ended 31 May 2026, published in July, Games Workshop said its main financial system was still supported by legacy ERP applications. The report also recorded that previously identified audit control deficiencies remained. At the same time, the company described its Systems Improvement Plan (SIP) as being on track with clear milestones.

The Register reproduced the company’s statement: “Our Systems Improvement Plan (SIP) is on track with very clear milestones for us all to support and deliver”. These disclosures describe different aspects of the situation: the report notes legacy applications and continuing control deficiencies while presenting the improvement plan as on track. It does not provide a firm ERP go-live date, a current total program cost or an update establishing whether the plan’s status has changed since publication.

Its 2026 annual report recorded revenue of £659.7 million for the 52 weeks ended 31 May 2026, compared with £617.5 million in the 52 weeks ended 1 June 2025. The company also reported 598 company-owned stores in 24 countries at the end of the 2025/26 period and 9,100 independent retailers in 71 countries during that period. That international footprint helps explain why the reported IT remit combines internal systems, security and customer-facing technology.
