Wizards of the Coast announced that God Packs are planned to begin with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, the first Magic set of 2027. For that rollout, Wizards states a frequency of 1 in every 1,000 Booster Packs and 1 in every 300 Collector Boosters; those are pack-level figures, not odds for a box or a promise of value.
What is an MTG God Pack?
Wizards defines a God Pack as a rare booster in which every nonbasic card is rare or mythic rare. The announced 2027 versions also include a God Pack celebration card. The contents and rarity mix differ between Booster Packs and Collector Boosters.
The name has a historical precedent, but the older example was not the same configuration. A 2014 Magic Rules Tips article, updated in 2015, described a Journey into Nyx booster that could contain all 15 gods from the Theros block. The new announcement describes packs by rarity and card treatments rather than by a particular themed group of cards. Read the historical account.
When are God Packs coming to Magic?
In an announcement dated October 5, 2026, Wizards said God Packs are planned to start with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, announced as the first Magic set of 2027. The plan is for Magic Multiverse sets, with Universes Beyond sets expected to receive God Packs in 2028. These are future-product plans, not confirmation that God Packs are currently available. What are the odds of opening a God Pack?
Wizards’ published figures are 1 in every 1,000 Booster Packs and 1 in every 300 Collector Boosters. These are stated pack-level frequencies from the October 5, 2026 announcement and WPN retailer guidance, not independently measured rates. They do not establish the odds for a particular box, a draft pod, or an individual card, and they do not provide a method for identifying a God Pack before opening.
What is inside each announced God Pack?
Wizards’ announced contents differ by product:
| Product | Stated frequency | Announced contents |
|---|---|---|
| Booster Pack | 1 in every 1,000 Booster Packs | Celebration card; 10 nonfoil rare and/or mythic rare cards; 2 nonfoil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards; 2 traditional-foil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards. |
| Collector Booster | 1 in every 300 Collector Boosters | Celebration card; foil land; 3 foil default-frame rare and/or mythic rare cards; 3 nonfoil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards; 5 foil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards. |
These are the configurations described for the planned rollout. Wizards’ announcement is dated October 5, 2026, so details could change before the 2027 release.

Can you buy a God Pack separately?
No. God Packs are randomly included among regular Booster Packs and Collector Boosters; they are not a separate product to order. Buying a normal pack does not guarantee a God Pack. The Wizards Play Network’s 2027 booster guidance explains that retailers stock ordinary product and God Packs appear randomly within it.
What should you do if you open one at a draft or event?
Stop opening or using the cards and call the judge or tournament organizer. Current WPN guidance says to pause so the organizer can handle the pack according to the event’s format and expectations.

Competitive events
For events intended to feel competitive, WPN strongly recommends removing the God Pack from play while allowing the opener to keep it, then replacing it at no charge with an unopened Booster Pack from the same set. At competitive events where Wizards supplies the product, the God Pack must be removed and replaced.
Casual events
The organizer may choose to leave the God Pack in a draft or sealed pool, although WPN recommends removal and replacement in most cases. Follow the judge or organizer’s direction rather than deciding unilaterally whether to play the cards.

Alongside God Packs, Wizards says Play Boosters will be renamed Booster Packs starting with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm; WPN describes this as a name change, not a new product. Wizards also announced planned changes to card slots and foil treatment, including the loss of a guaranteed foil in every Booster Pack. These details provide context for the new product terminology; the God Pack contents above are the relevant special configurations.
