That is a conditional plan, not confirmation that the company has shut down or that a partner has been secured. The latest reported update, published by The National on October 5, 2026, says the founders were discussing options with potential partners.
What Envision’s announcement means
Envision’s founders, Karthik Mahadevan and Karthik Kannan, said the company would stop developing products at the end of 2026 unless it found a partner. The report also describes a planned wind-down of operations. It does not say that either step has already happened, and it names no confirmed partner or agreement.
The founders told The National that their efforts to build a sustainable business had not produced profitable results. They said scaling the business model had proved difficult, while arguing that the product and business still have potential under a new direction, audience or business model. Those are the founders’ explanations as reported by the newspaper.
What Envision makes
Envision AI phone app
The Envision AI app uses a phone camera to identify and read material such as signs, menus, books and objects. The National reports that the app began gaining popularity in 2017. It also says the app won a Google Play Award in the “best accessibility experience” category in 2019; that award detail is reported by the newspaper.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Envision glasses
The company also developed smart glasses that adapted some app functions into a wearable format. The National says the glasses were introduced in 2020. Co-founder Karthik Kannan described the practical motivation: holding a phone while also using a cane can be cumbersome for some users.
Will the app and glasses keep working?
That is not settled by the October 5 report. The founders said they hoped to keep the app and some other offerings operational for as long as possible, including offline, but did not specify a service end date or exactly which features would remain available without an internet connection. The report also does not establish what a future wind-down would mean for app access, updates, or support for glasses owners.

For users making a decision now, distinguish the conditional product-development plan from confirmed service terms. Check Envision’s current company communications for any update on a partner, app availability, support, or the status of glasses before relying on long-term access.
What is known—and what is not
- Reported plan: stop product development at the end of 2026 if no partner is found, with operations intended to wind down.
- Partner status in the report: discussions with possible partners; no confirmed deal or named partner.
- Service continuity: the founders hoped to maintain the app and some offerings as long as possible, including offline, but no duration or scope is confirmed.
- Current purchasing and support: the report does not establish present glasses inventory, current pricing, warranty terms, or future support.

Why the founders say the business struggled
The founders framed the challenge as more than a question of whether assistive technology can help. They said that many blind and low-vision people face barriers such as poverty, limited basic access and unemployment that technology alone cannot solve, making it difficult for even inexpensive or free products to reach large numbers of paying users.
In The National’s account, the founders referred to “300 million blind and low-vision people” as a potential market. That figure and their comments about adoption and paying users are their framing, not independently verified user-count or market-size findings in the report.
