If you archive a post you own on Facebook, reproduced Facebook guidance says it is visible only to you while it is in Archive. Restoring it returns it to the audience you chose before archiving; it does not automatically make the post public or guarantee it will appear in anyone’s Feed. That is different from hiding a story or changing Feed preferences, which affect what you see.
Who can see a Facebook post while it is archived?
According to Facebook guidance reproduced in the North Carolina School Boards Association’s August 2024 PDF, a post moved to Archive is visible only to the account owner while archived. The PDF is a secondary reproduction of Facebook guidance, rather than a directly retrieved Facebook archive-specific help page: North Carolina School Boards Association, “Oh No You Didn’t: Guidelines for Employees use of Social Media”.
Facebook identifies Activity Log and Manage Activity as tools for reviewing and managing account content. For general account and post management, see Share and Manage Posts on Your Profile and View and adjust your Facebook privacy settings. Exact menu names and paths can vary by app version or region.
What happens when you restore an archived post?
The reproduced guidance says restoring a post makes it visible to the audience selected before it was moved to Archive. Its visibility is therefore governed by that earlier audience choice: restoration does not itself make the post public. The available sources do not establish whether or when a restored post will be shown again in other people’s Feeds.

Does hiding a story or changing Feed preferences archive the post?
No. Feed preferences are controls for the viewer’s own Feed, not an archive action on another person’s post. Facebook says you can hide an individual story or choose to see fewer posts from a person, Page, or group. These controls influence what appears in your Feed; they do not establish that the author archived or removed the underlying post. See Control what you see in Feed on Facebook.

Why might a tagged post still be visible?
A tagged post has separate audience considerations. Facebook says visibility can depend on the audience chosen by the person who posted it and the tagged person’s Profile and tagging settings. Eligible viewers may encounter the post in Feed, search, and other Facebook locations. Hiding it from a profile or changing your own Feed preferences should not be taken to mean the post has been removed for everyone. See Choose who can see a post that you’re tagged in on Facebook.
