If you have a replacement Samsung soundbar remote, identify your soundbar’s full model number and match the remote to it; Bluetooth pairing is for connecting the soundbar to an audio source, not for pairing a replacement remote. If your goal is to use one remote for your TV and soundbar, Samsung supports TV-remote volume and mute control on compatible optical and HDMI ARC setups.
First, identify what you want to pair
- Replacement soundbar remote: Find the soundbar’s complete model number and use it to locate a compatible remote through Samsung’s replacement-remote guidance. Check the soundbar’s manual for any model-specific setup details.
- Soundbar and TV over Bluetooth: Use Bluetooth pairing mode on the soundbar and select it from the TV’s Bluetooth speaker list. These steps connect audio devices; they do not configure a replacement remote.
- Samsung TV remote controlling the soundbar: Set the TV’s sound output to the soundbar, then follow the optical or HDMI ARC instructions for your model.
Button names, menus, and supported functions vary by model and region. If the labels below do not match your devices, use the TV and soundbar manuals.
Connect a Samsung soundbar to a TV over Bluetooth
Put the soundbar in Bluetooth pairing mode
- On the soundbar, select Bluetooth as the source. Depending on the model, cycle the Source button until the display shows “BT,” then “BT WAIT,” followed by “BT PAIRING.”
- If the display shows “BT READY,” hold the soundbar’s Source button until “BT PAIRING” appears. On some models, press and hold the remote’s PAIR button for five seconds to start the relevant Bluetooth pairing sequence.
- If you do not have a working remote, try the soundbar’s Multi Function or Source button. The available controls vary by model; consult the manual if the display does not show pairing mode.

Select the soundbar on the TV
- Open the TV’s Bluetooth audio or speaker list. On a Samsung TV, use the Bluetooth Speaker List in the sound settings; menu wording differs across models.
- Choose the soundbar when it appears. If it is missing, cancel the search and try again; Samsung notes that the device name may appear after one or two attempts.
Samsung says soundbars pair over Bluetooth with audio-playing devices such as TVs, phones, and tablets, not with Bluetooth speakers, headphones, or other soundbars.

Use a Samsung TV remote for soundbar volume
On supported systems, a Samsung TV remote can adjust soundbar volume and mute over optical or HDMI ARC. First connect the devices and set the TV’s Sound Output to the soundbar. For model-specific help, see Samsung’s TV remote and soundbar instructions.
Enable the TV Remote function
For the setup covered by Samsung’s US instructions, turn on the soundbar, then hold the remote’s WOOFER button until “ON – TV REMOTE” appears, which takes about five seconds. Soundbars without a WOOFER button use a different TV Remote procedure; follow the user manual rather than applying this button sequence to another model.

Optical connection
- Connect the TV’s optical audio output to the soundbar’s optical input.
- Select D.IN as the soundbar source and set the TV’s sound output to its optical connection or the soundbar, as the TV menu allows.
- If needed, enable Auto Power Link. Samsung’s referenced guidance says this feature works only with an optical connection and is on by default in that setup.
HDMI ARC connection
- Connect the soundbar’s HDMI OUT (ARC) port to the TV’s HDMI ARC port.
- Select D.IN on the soundbar. In Samsung’s instructions, the source changes to TV ARC after about two seconds.
- Enable Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) on compatible devices if you want synchronized power behavior. Port labels and menu settings depend on the TV and soundbar model.
Choose the connection that fits your setup
For basic TV audio, use a connection supported by both devices. Bluetooth avoids a cable but is a wireless audio connection; optical and HDMI can also support a TV-remote control setup on compatible devices. Check the manuals for available ports and functions before choosing.

Samsung UK’s connection and format comparison also lists Dolby Digital 5.1 across HDMI-eARC, HDMI, optical, and Bluetooth. Actual format support depends on the TV, soundbar, and their settings; the UK guidance should not be read as a guarantee for every model or region.

Troubleshoot a Bluetooth connection that will not work
The TV cannot find the soundbar
- Confirm that the soundbar display says “BT PAIRING,” not just “BT” or “BT READY.” Use the soundbar’s model-specific PAIR or Source controls to enter pairing mode.
- Put the TV or other audio source into Bluetooth discovery mode and search again. On a Samsung TV, cancel and reopen the Bluetooth Speaker List if necessary.
- Restart the source device, then retry. Check for a soundbar firmware update using the method specified for your model.
The soundbar pairs with some devices but not this one
Try another phone, tablet, or TV as a test. If another device pairs successfully, the problem may be specific to the original source, which may need an update or may not be compatible with the soundbar.
No Bluetooth device can pair
If the soundbar cannot pair with any Bluetooth device after you have confirmed pairing mode, Samsung advises contacting support for service.

Bluetooth connects, but there is no sound
Check that the TV’s Sound Output is set to the soundbar and that the soundbar is on the Bluetooth source. A successful Bluetooth connection does not by itself confirm that the TV is sending audio to the correct output.

- HDMI ARC or eARC: Confirm that the cable connects the TV’s ARC/eARC port to the soundbar’s ARC/eARC port. Check Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) on compatible Samsung setups, select the appropriate soundbar source, and confirm that the TV output is set to the soundbar.
- Optical: Confirm the optical cable is seated at both ends, select D.IN on the soundbar, and set the TV to send audio through its optical output.
- Wi-Fi: Samsung India’s guidance says the TV and soundbar should be on the same Wi-Fi network. If needed, reconnect the soundbar through SmartThings.
