To create a metaverse account, first choose the platform or experience you want to use. There is no single account that signs you in to every metaverse service: Meta Horizon, Fortnite, and Roblox each have their own account setup. You can create a Meta account in a browser, the Meta Horizon mobile app, or in VR; Fortnite uses an Epic Games account; and Roblox has its own signup.
Choose the platform before you sign up
Start with the experience you want and where your friends already play. Check that you can access its signup page or app, and consider its age rules, family controls, privacy settings, and account-recovery options. A console identity may be linkable to an Epic account, while Meta and Roblox use their own accounts. A signup alone does not establish that you need to buy a headset or subscription; the device requirements depend on the specific experience.
Create a Meta account and Horizon profile
A Meta account is the login and purchased-content management layer for Meta VR products. Your Meta Horizon profile is the social identity other people see. Meta says that a Horizon profile is created when you sign up for a Meta account. Facebook or Instagram linkage is optional, according to Meta’s Meta Accounts FAQs.
- Choose a setup route: a web browser, the Meta Horizon mobile app, or VR.
- Follow the account signup flow and provide the requested details.
- Set up your Meta Horizon profile, including its visible name and unique username.
- Review profile and privacy settings to decide what other people can see.
Meta introduced Meta accounts in 2022 as a way to log in to VR headsets without requiring a Facebook account, but that description applies to Meta’s account model, not to other platforms. See Meta’s 2022 account announcement.

Create an Epic Games account for Fortnite
Fortnite uses an Epic Games account. Epic’s current instructions begin on its sign-in page; the signup options and supported identity providers may change, so use what the live page offers.
- Open Epic Games sign-in and choose Create your account.
- Enter your date of birth.
- Choose an accessible email address or one of the other supported sign-in options shown in the flow, then complete the requested details.
- If you use email signup, enter the six-digit code sent to that email address.
- Link an Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo account if prompted and you want to. You can skip linking and do it later.
- After signup, enable two-factor authentication to add protection to the account.
Use Epic’s account-creation instructions if the labels or flow differ.

Already played Fortnite on a console?
You may already have an Epic account connected to your Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo account. Before creating a new one, try signing in to Epic using the platform account you used to play, then complete the existing account if asked. Epic says this can help keep synced progress and purchases associated with the existing account.
Create a Roblox account
Roblox signup asks for a username, date of birth, and an authentication method such as a password. The account-age rules in Roblox’s terms allow users aged 5 and older to create accounts; users under 18 must do so with a parent or guardian, who accepts the terms on the minor’s behalf. Some features must be enabled through parental controls. Check the current Roblox terms for applicable requirements.

Roblox account signup is not the same as identity verification. Roblox describes age checks or government ID verification as a way to connect an account to a real-world identity and unlock certain creator functions, not as a general requirement for every player. Details are in the Roblox Creator Hub verification documentation.
Check age rules and set up an account safely
Age limits and guardian requirements are specific to each service and may also depend on local law. Epic’s Fortnite documentation says a parent or guardian must create an account for a user under 13. Meta’s published developer age requirements describe age categories and restrictions for apps; they are not a complete statement of consumer account eligibility in every region. - Enter an accurate birth date and do not try to evade age restrictions.
- Have a parent or guardian participate when the platform requires it, and review supervision and parental-control settings.
- Use a strong, unique password and keep access to the account’s recovery email or sign-in method.
- Do not put a child’s real name, school, home address, phone number, or other identifying information in a public profile.
- Review privacy, voice, and chat controls before joining social features; their options vary by platform.
Do you need a headset or a paid account?
There is no universal hardware or payment requirement for creating a metaverse account. Meta permits signup through a browser, mobile app, or VR, while Fortnite and Roblox have their own account flows. Whether a headset or particular device is needed to use a specific experience depends on that service; this broad account-creation question does not establish a requirement to buy one.
