Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 currently leads the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 in the available CPU and graphics benchmark aggregates, and it has the higher reported CPU peak clock. The comparison is not conclusive for every phone: the Gen 5 results are based on a much smaller sample, and handset cooling, memory, software, display resolution and power settings can all affect performance. Qualcomm’s advertised performance gains are manufacturer claims, not independent guarantees for every device.
What changed from Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 to Gen 5?
Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 is the newer platform: Qualcomm announced it on May 7, 2026. NanoReview dates Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 to September 2024. The names matter: Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 are different products.
Qualcomm says Gen 5 offers up to 21% better GPU performance, 20% faster app launches and 18% less screen stutter than the prior platform. These are Qualcomm’s launch-announcement claims and should be read as vendor-reported comparisons, not results independently confirmed across all Gen 3 and Gen 5 phones. Qualcomm’s May 7, 2026 announcement also says HONOR, OPPO, realme and REDMI were expected to offer devices powered by the announced platforms in the second half of 2026; that statement does not confirm current stock or availability in a particular country.

Gen 5’s CPU and manufacturing details in this comparison come from NanoReview rather than an official Qualcomm specification page in the cited material. Qualcomm also cautions that Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 comes in multiple variants and that specifications and performance vary by version and part number; it advises checking the exact OEM device specifications. A platform feature does not guarantee that every phone implements it.

Benchmark comparison: Gen 5 is ahead in the available data
NanoReview’s comparison reports the following database scores. They are aggregate comparison-page results, not a controlled test of two otherwise identical phones.
| Benchmark | Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 | Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 |
|---|---|---|
| AnTuTu 11 | 1,012,134 (2 recorded tests) | 840,353 (123 recorded tests) |
| Geekbench 6 single-core | 1,099 | 1,013 |
| Geekbench 6 multi-core | 3,481 | 3,000 |
| Geekbench 6 compute (GPU) | 4,253 | 3,354 |
NanoReview’s comparison page labels the AnTuTu 11 result a 20% Gen 5 advantage, but only two Gen 5 tests are recorded there versus 123 for Gen 3. The comparison also shows limited Gen 5 data for other tests. In particular, the compute result is not a robust measure of how every Gen 5 phone will perform in games: matched devices, workloads, temperatures and sustained frame rates matter.

Those are results from phones, not chip-only laboratory measurements; memory, software, cooling and test conditions may contribute to the difference. What the benchmark gap means for everyday use
Apps and general responsiveness
The reported Gen 5 CPU scores are higher in both single-core and multi-core Geekbench 6. Qualcomm’s faster-app-launch figure is a separate vendor claim. Neither point establishes how much faster a specific retail phone feels: storage speed, software, memory and background load are also part of the experience.

Games and graphics
The comparison-page GPU compute score favors Gen 5, and Qualcomm advertises an up-to 21% GPU improvement. Neither number predicts sustained gaming performance on its own. A phone’s cooling, screen resolution and power limits can change frame rates and consistency over a long session.
Battery life and heat
The cited comparison does not establish which processor delivers longer battery life in retail phones. Battery capacity, display, radio use, software tuning and thermal design must be assessed at the handset level; a 4 nm process alone does not prove that one model lasts longer.

How to choose between phones using these chips
If two phones are otherwise similar in price and configuration, the available data makes Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 the stronger starting point for peak CPU and graphics performance. For a purchase decision, compare the actual handsets rather than choosing by chip name alone:
- Check the exact regional model’s 5G bands and Wi-Fi support; platform capability does not establish which bands a manufacturer enables.
- Compare memory and storage configurations, display resolution, battery capacity and cooling design.
- Look for sustained gaming or battery tests on the specific phone, not just a chipset aggregate score.
- Compare software support, cameras, warranty, price and availability in your market.
- Confirm charging support and included charger details from the phone maker; chipset support does not guarantee a particular charging speed in the box.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 product page is useful for its listed platform features, but it explicitly warns that variants and device implementations differ. Check Qualcomm’s Gen 3 specifications alongside the handset maker’s specification page.
