To connect an Xbox One controller to a Samsung tablet, turn on Bluetooth on the tablet, put a Bluetooth-capable controller into pairing mode, then select it in the tablet’s Bluetooth settings. Samsung’s documented Galaxy procedure uses the controller’s Bind button; the exact settings labels can vary by tablet and One UI or Android version.
Before you start: confirm the controller supports Bluetooth
Not every Xbox One controller can pair over Bluetooth. Samsung’s instructions apply to a “standard Xbox Bluetooth controller,” and Xbox describes support for compatible devices. Check your controller model before troubleshooting: if it is not Bluetooth-capable, it will not appear in the tablet’s Bluetooth device list. [Samsung; Xbox]
Pair the controller with your Samsung tablet
- Turn on Bluetooth on the tablet. Open the tablet’s Settings and go to its Bluetooth controls. Samsung’s Galaxy-device article documents this process for phones; tablet menu labels may differ by software version. [Samsung]
- Turn on the controller. Press the Xbox button.
- Enter pairing mode. Press and hold the Bind button on the top of the controller for three seconds, then release it.
- Open the available-device list and select the controller. On Android generally, Google documents the path as Settings → Connected devices → Pair new device. On a Galaxy tablet, use the Bluetooth settings screen and tap Scan if the controller is not listed. [Google Android Help; Samsung]
After pairing, the controller should be available as a connected Bluetooth device. Menu names and placement can differ across Galaxy tablets and software versions.
Bluetooth or wired: which connection should you use?

Google describes connecting a game controller to Android with a compatible cable, and Xbox says controllers can connect to most compatible devices by Bluetooth or wired connection. Neither statement establishes one cable or adapter that works with every Xbox controller and Samsung tablet, so check the ports on your specific devices. [Google Android Help; Xbox]

If the tablet cannot find the controller
- Check pairing mode: confirm the controller is on and that you held the Bind button for three seconds to enter pairing mode. [Samsung]
- Scan again: return to the tablet’s Bluetooth screen and tap Scan if that option is available. [Samsung]
- Reduce possible interference: Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance recommends moving away from other devices that transmit radio signals or temporarily disconnecting other Bluetooth devices. Try this as an initial check; it does not by itself show that the controller is faulty. [Samsung troubleshooting]
- Recheck Bluetooth capability: if the controller still does not appear, verify that your particular model supports Bluetooth rather than assuming all Xbox One controllers do.
Pairing is separate from game support
A controller can pair successfully while a particular Android game still does not accept controller input. Check the game’s controls or support information for controller compatibility. For Xbox Cloud Gaming specifically, Xbox lists Android phones and tablets running OS 12 or later, subject to supported devices and regions. Cloud Gaming availability and games also depend on region, plan, and platform; OS 12 is not a general requirement for pairing a controller with Android. [Xbox; Google Android Help]
