Weio Site Check is a hosted MCP service for asking an AI agent whether a public website hostname opens over HTTPS and, when it does not, what certificate or reachability problem it found. Its check_https tool checks a hostname and its www variant and returns a structured result; it is a focused diagnostic, not a full security audit or a guarantee every visitor can reach the site.
What Weio Site Check does
Weio’s article, published September 30, 2026, describes Site Check as an MCP endpoint at https://weio.ai/mcp, using stateless Streamable HTTP. The service is intended for questions such as: “Check whether expired.badssl.com opens securely and explain the problem in one sentence.” Instead of asking an agent to infer a cause from a browser message, the tool returns diagnostic fields that the agent can explain.
The article also says the endpoint exposes a REST HTTPS-check API, and that the service is listed in the official MCP registry as ai.weio/site-check. These endpoint and listing details are vendor-described; availability and behavior may change.
The two tools
check_httpsdiagnoses HTTPS certificate/privacy-warning conditions for a hostname and itswwwvariant.site_inforetrieves public homepage information, including the page title, CMS, mobile viewport tag, role email addresses, phone numbers, and social links.
Weio’s article says both tools are annotated readOnlyHint: true. That is a declaration about the tools’ intended behavior, not an independent security review of the service or its data handling.

How to interpret an HTTPS result
The documented cause values include ok, expired, wrong_cert, self_signed, no_https, and unreachable. A separate visible field indicates whether a browser warning or “Not secure” label is expected. The article also describes expired_days; a negative value means the certificate remains valid, according to that description.
Keep certificate status distinct from whether the hostname can be reached. A host that cannot resolve or respond is not the same finding as a host that completes an HTTPS handshake but presents a certificate that is expired or issued for another name. An unknown or unreachable result does not establish that a certificate is faulty.

Hostname mismatch and missing www hosts
Weio’s example says wrong.host.badssl.com returns wrong_cert: the presented certificate covers *.badssl.com, not the requested hostname. In another example, www.expired.badssl.com can be unknown because that exact www hostname is not served. The tool’s stated approach is not to guess when a hostname is absent.
That distinction matters for real domains, too. The apex hostname (such as example.com) and www.example.com are separate hostnames and can have different DNS, server, and certificate configurations. Check the exact address that fails rather than treating one result as proof about every version of the site.

Connect an MCP client
The endpoint is meant for MCP clients that support Streamable HTTP. Weio’s article gives this Claude Code command:
claude mcp add --transport http weio-site-check https://weio.ai/mcpFor another compatible client, use its MCP-server configuration for a remote Streamable HTTP endpoint and set the URL to https://weio.ai/mcp. The precise configuration fields depend on the client; use that client’s current documentation rather than copying a configuration intended for a different transport.

Free allowance and optional paid usage
Weio’s September 30, 2026 article states that the service allows 10 calls per day without a key. It also describes an optional key costing $9 for 1,000 calls, valid for 12 months. These are vendor-stated terms, not independently verified usage measurements; check Weio’s current page before relying on the limits or price.

A remote HTTPS diagnostic can identify conditions observed from the service’s own vantage point. It cannot prove that a site is reachable for every visitor, explain every browser or local-network failure, or substitute for a comprehensive security audit. Results may depend on the hostname supplied, DNS resolution, remote reachability, and the diagnostic service’s network position.

If the immediate problem is that an agent cannot connect to an MCP server, certificate diagnosis is only one branch of troubleshooting. Anthropic’s tunnel guidance distinguishes the outbound connection to the tunnel edge, inner TLS between Anthropic and the proxy, and routing or IP validation toward the upstream MCP server. For inner-TLS certificate errors, it advises checking expiry, whether the certificate’s Subject Alternative Name matches the tunnel domain, and whether the signing CA is registered. Other MCP options for SSL and site diagnostics
These services document overlapping capabilities, but their published feature lists and limits are not independent test results. Choose based on the diagnostics you need and the access model you can accept.

Before choosing, compare hostname and redirect handling, whether the output explains the cause, authentication requirements, published rate limits, data handling, and whether private or internal targets are blocked. Published limits and feature descriptions can change.
