Before GPT-5 launched, online coverage discussed purported screenshots and other claims about the upcoming ChatGPT experience. A Tom’s Guide live blog noted that there was no way to verify a plan screenshot it discussed. That makes the screenshot a reported rumor, not evidence of confirmed plan limits or pricing.
The available official material does not establish the origin or authenticity of every artifact associated with the pre-release speculation. The reliable way to separate claims from confirmed product details is to look at OpenAI’s launch announcement and subsequent release notes.
What did OpenAI confirm about GPT-5?
OpenAI’s GPT-5 announcement says GPT-5 was introduced in August 2025 and describes it as having thinking built in. The GPT-5 System Card explains the underlying design as a unified system: a fast model handled most questions, a deeper reasoning model addressed harder problems, and a real-time router chose between them based on the conversation, its complexity, tool needs, and explicit instructions.

In OpenAI’s words, “GPT‑5 is a unified system with a smart and fast model that answers most questions, a deeper reasoning model for harder problems, and a real-time router that quickly decides which model to use based on conversation type, complexity, tool needs, and explicit intent (for example, if you say ‘think hard about this’ in the prompt).” OpenAI also said mini versions were used after usage limits were reached.
This means GPT-5 was not simply one fixed response mode. The system could use a faster path for ordinary requests and a reasoning path for more demanding ones. That official design description is distinct from any unverified pre-launch claims about the product.

What is ChatGPT Go?
ChatGPT Go is a digital ChatGPT plan. An October 2025 entry in OpenAI’s ChatGPT Release Notes said Go included more messages, larger file uploads, expanded image generation, advanced data analysis, and longer memory than Free. That dated entry listed availability on the web, iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows.
Those details describe what OpenAI listed in that October 2025 release note; they should not be taken as a guarantee of current access in every country or account. The note does not establish a current local price, and the pre-release screenshot discussed by Tom’s Guide is not a reliable basis for one.
Which new ChatGPT models are available now?
Model and plan availability changes over time. OpenAI’s current GPT-5 page points to GPT-6 as its latest model, while the Model Release Notes describe access to specific models by plan and rollout.
In the current notes, GPT-5.6 Sol is rolling out to eligible paid ChatGPT plans, excluding Free and Go. Availability can vary during the rollout and may also depend on workspace administrator settings. The same notes say GPT-5.4 mini is available to Free and Go users through the Thinking feature. These are model-specific access details, not a general promise that every account has the same model choices.
