First, choose the case for your exact iPhone
Buy a case explicitly listed for iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone 17 Pro Max, as applicable. The models are not interchangeable: Spigen offers separate device selections for its Silicone Fit (MagFit), and a case must match the shape and openings of the handset, not merely its screen size.
For scale, Apple lists the iPhone 17 Pro Max at 78.0 mm wide, 163.4 mm tall, and 8.75 mm deep (3.07 × 6.43 × 0.34 inches). Those are handset dimensions, not case dimensions; a case adds bulk and weight. Apple describes the phone’s construction as an aluminum unibody with a Ceramic Shield 2 front and Ceramic Shield back. Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Max technical specifications provide the device measurements and construction details.
Do not assume an iPhone 16 Pro Max case will fit the 17 Pro Max. Tom’s Guide’s September 2025 roundup says it will not, citing the newer phone’s larger size and different rear-panel design. - Charging and MagSafe: Look for an explicit statement about MagSafe accessories and wireless charging on the listing for the exact case variant. Spigen states both for its MagFit case; Apple’s cited page is specifically for MagSafe accessories.
- Screen and camera coverage: Look for raised edges around the display and a bezel or coverage around the camera area. Spigen describes a protective camera bezel, while OtterBox describes raised edges on the Defender Pro XT. These feature descriptions do not by themselves establish drop performance.
- Camera Control: Confirm how the case handles the control and whether its design suits your preferred access. OtterBox identifies an integrated Camera Control button on the cited Symmetry and Defender listings.
- Extras: Check whether a stand, wallet, or grip is built into the case or sold separately. Apple’s accessory page includes stands, wallets, and grips; those accessories are not necessarily part of a case.
