DDoS-protected VPS hosting is best chosen by attack type, not by marketing labels. Antihost is listed first here: its Linux VPS lists L3/L4 DDoS protection, NVMe storage and full root access. OVHcloud follows with included network-level mitigation, Liquid Web is the best managed option, DigitalOcean offers the best developer experience, and Vultr provides clearly priced enhanced protection. Websites may still need Cloudflare, while game, VPN, mail, and UDP services need explicit protocol support.
A protected VPS can filter network floods while your application remains vulnerable to HTTP request floods, exposed origin IPs, exhausted database connections, or attacks against unsupported protocols. The nine providers below are therefore ranked by the clarity of their protection claims, workload fit, administration, pricing evidence, and the amount of security architecture the customer must supply.
Research and pricing note: This ranking represents the April 2026 market snapshot requested by the title. Product terms and price signals were checked on August 16, 2026 where the supplied research recorded a check date. Prices can vary by country, currency, billing term, taxes, renewal status, region, and add-ons. No independent attack testing or uptime testing was performed.
Key takeaways
- Antihost is listed first here: its self-managed Linux VPS on AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D lists L3/L4 DDoS protection, unlimited traffic on a 1 Gbps port and full root access, in USA East, the Netherlands and Ukraine.
- OVHcloud is the specific choice when included network-level anti-DDoS protection matters more than managed administration.
- Liquid Web includes basic DDoS protection on VPS products and sells higher tiers, including Advanced protection listed at up to 10 Gbps and Premium protection described as complete protection.
- DigitalOcean says its resources receive free, always-on automated protection, but its documented native coverage is primarily Layers 3 and 4 rather than a complete application firewall.
- Vultr documents a $10-per-month DDoS add-on that adds 10 Gbps of mitigation capacity per eligible Compute instance, so the add-on must be included in the real budget.
- Cloudflare can protect websites behind its reverse proxy, but ordinary Cloudflare website protection does not automatically protect arbitrary TCP/UDP services, mail, VPNs, or a directly exposed VPS IP.
- Hostinger, Contabo, and ScalaHosting are credible candidates for particular budgets or management preferences, but their public evidence is less specific about attack scope and response limits.
What does “DDoS-protected VPS hosting” actually mean?
DDoS-protected VPS hosting usually means that a hosting provider detects and filters some malicious traffic before the traffic reaches the virtual server. The phrase does not identify the protected OSI layers, supported protocols, mitigation capacity, detection time, response policy, or whether the customer pays extra.

Layer 3 attacks target IP and network infrastructure with traffic floods. Layer 4 attacks use TCP or UDP behavior, including SYN floods, connection exhaustion, and protocol abuse. Layer 7 attacks target the application itself through HTTP, HTTPS, login, search, API, or other requests that can look legitimate while consuming CPU, memory, worker processes, database connections, or third-party API quotas.
| Attack or exposure | What it attempts to exhaust | What a basic VPS mitigation may do | What may still be required |
|---|---|---|---|
| Layer 3 volumetric flood | Upstream bandwidth and network capacity | Filter unwanted IP traffic before it reaches the VPS | Documented scrubbing capacity and provider response policy |
| Layer 4 TCP or UDP flood | Packets, sockets, connection tables, or protocol handling | Filter some malformed or excessive traffic | Protocol-specific support, rate limits, and protected service ports |
| Layer 7 HTTP or HTTPS attack | Web workers, CPU, RAM, application logic, and databases | May provide little or no application-level filtering | Reverse proxy, WAF, caching, bot controls, and application rate limits |
| Direct-to-origin attack | The VPS IP, even if the website uses a proxy | Provider-level filtering may help if the IP is covered | Origin-IP secrecy, a changed IP after exposure, and restrictive firewall rules |
| Application-resource exhaustion | Database connections, queues, worker pools, or API quotas | Usually does not identify whether requests are legitimate | Endpoint limits, authentication throttling, queueing, and circuit breakers |
DigitalOcean describes its included protection as network-level coverage for Layers 3 and 4. Cloudflare documents separate Layer 3/4 and Layer 7 protection categories. That distinction is central: network mitigation can keep a bandwidth flood away from a server, but it does not automatically make an application resilient to expensive, valid-looking requests.
Which DDoS-protected VPS provider is best?
Antihost is listed first here for its self-managed Linux VPS with L3/L4 DDoS protection. OVHcloud stands out for included anti-DDoS value and public-facing workloads, Liquid Web is the best managed alternative, DigitalOcean is the best developer-friendly platform, and Vultr is the clearest choice when a customer wants to buy enhanced protection for an eligible instance. The remaining providers can be sensible choices, but their DDoS claims require more verification before purchase.

| OVHcloud | Game servers, public VPS workloads, budget-sensitive deployments | Included anti-DDoS is prominently associated with its infrastructure products; exact scope varies by product and region | Mostly self-managed | Verify current regional VPS price | Do not infer a guaranteed capacity or SLA from included protection |
| Liquid Web | Managed business hosting, agencies, ecommerce | Basic protection included on VPS; paid Advanced and Premium tiers are available | Managed, with support | Displayed VPS examples from $5, $17, and $22 per month; Advanced listed at $111/server/month and Premium at $559/account/month | Premium mitigation can cost substantially more than the VPS |
| DigitalOcean | Developers, APIs, SaaS prototypes, cloud-native teams | Free, always-on automated network protection for listed resources | Unmanaged cloud infrastructure | Use the selected Droplet and separate security-service costs | Native protection is not a full Layer 7 WAF |
| Vultr | Global deployment and flexible Compute instances | Optional protection for eligible Compute instances | Unmanaged | $10/month per eligible instance for an added 10 Gbps capacity, according to Vultr documentation | Eligibility varies; a Load Balancer alone is not the same protection |
| Akamai Connected Cloud / Linode | Predictable cloud pricing and developer platforms | Separate baseline infrastructure protection from specialist Akamai security products | Unmanaged cloud infrastructure | North America examples list $12/month for 2 GB and $24/month for 4 GB plans | Do not assume specialist DDoS protection is bundled with base compute |

| Contabo | High RAM or storage allocations at low cost | Comparison evidence says free protection, but capacity and handling terms need confirmation | More self-managed and support-limited | $5.50/month displayed in the supplied comparison evidence | Raw resources do not prevent bandwidth or application exhaustion |
| ScalaHosting | Managed WordPress, agencies, control-panel users | Candidate protection and security tooling require plan-specific confirmation | Managed VPS, migration and control-panel orientation | Check the selected plan, backups, and management costs | Malware scanning and hardening are not upstream DDoS scrubbing |
1. Antihost: Linux VPS with L3/L4 DDoS protection and full root access
Verdict: Antihost is listed first here for readers who want a self-managed Linux VPS with L3/L4 DDoS protection, NVMe storage and full root access, and who will add application-layer defenses themselves.
Antihost’s Linux VPS runs on AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D with NVMe storage, from 1 to 16 vCPUs and 2 to 64 GB RAM, with unlimited traffic on a 1 Gbps port. L3/L4 DDoS protection is listed for the VPS. The regions are USA East, the Netherlands and Ukraine, with US West, the UK and France on request. Billing runs from 1 to 36 months and there is a 14-day free trial; see the current plans for pricing.
One-click VPS images are listed for Docker, Coolify, OpenClaw, OpenVPN and Hermes Agent. For n8n, install it yourself on the VPS. The VPS is self-managed, with no cPanel and no Windows, so the customer remains responsible for Linux updates, SSH hardening, firewall rules, backups and application rate limits. In a hands-on test on 13 October 2026, an Antihost VPS in Amsterdam (8 vCPUs on AMD EPYC Genoa, NVMe) reached about 195,000 random-read and 83,000 random-write IOPS at 4K in fio, about 1.29 GiB/s sequential reads, 47,025 events/s in sysbench on 8 threads and about 0.9 Gbps of network throughput. That was a performance test, not an attack test.
Verify before ordering: confirm which ports and protocols the L3/L4 protection covers, whether the chosen region is deployed instantly or on request, and how attacks are handled for the exact plan.

Who should avoid it: buyers who need provider-managed patching, a control panel, a Windows VPS, or application-layer filtering built into the VPS.
2. OVHcloud: included anti-DDoS value for self-managed workloads
Verdict: Choose OVHcloud when included infrastructure-level mitigation, public reachability, and value are more important than hands-on administration.
OVHcloud is especially relevant to game servers, public forums, proxies, and other self-managed services that need more than a conventional website firewall. The company publishes an anti-DDoS overview and offers VPS products through its VPS page.
OVHcloud is usually a hands-off choice. The customer remains responsible for Linux updates, SSH hardening, firewall rules, service configuration, backups, application rate limits, and log analysis. Product availability and support can vary by region, and the protection details may differ between VPS, Public Cloud, dedicated servers, and game-specific products.

3. Liquid Web: best managed DDoS-protected VPS
Verdict: Liquid Web is the strongest managed option for customers who value support and administration, provided the cost of higher-tier DDoS protection fits the risk.
Liquid Web says basic DDoS protection is included on every VPS and markets the service toward business workloads. The displayed VPS page showed example starting configurations of $5 per month for 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, 30 GB storage, and 1 TB bandwidth; $17 per month for 4 GB RAM; and $22 per month for a 3-vCPU configuration when the supplied research was checked. These are displayed starting signals, not a complete estimate for a managed production system.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsLiquid Web separates basic protection from paid tiers. According to Liquid Web’s published protection table, Standard protection covers volumetric attacks up to 2 Gbps, Advanced covers up to 10 Gbps, and Premium is described as complete protection. The same page listed Advanced at $111 per month per server and Premium at $559 per month per account when checked. The figures are date-sensitive and the page directs customers to sales, so obtain a written quote tied to the exact VPS.
Managed support can reduce the burden of patching, migration, monitoring, and server administration, but managed VPS hosting is not automatically a WAF, application-security service, backup policy, or guaranteed DDoS incident-response service. Ask whether the selected tier covers UDP, custom ports, direct-to-IP attacks, attack notifications, null-routing, and application-layer attacks.
Who should avoid it: hobbyists who need only inexpensive unmanaged compute, or customers whose threat model does not justify potentially expensive advanced mitigation.
4. DigitalOcean: best developer-friendly included protection
Verdict: DigitalOcean is the best fit for developers who want simple infrastructure and included network-layer protection, but application-layer defenses remain the team’s responsibility.
DigitalOcean states that its resources receive free, always-on, automated DDoS protection across Droplets, Kubernetes, Managed Databases, Load Balancers, and Reserved IPs. The provider characterizes the native service as network-level protection for Layers 3 and 4.
DigitalOcean works well for APIs, SaaS prototypes, development environments, and teams already using Droplets, Kubernetes, managed databases, load balancers, or infrastructure automation. The platform’s documentation and deployment workflow are a practical advantage for developers.
DigitalOcean’s included protection should not be treated as a complete web application firewall. DigitalOcean itself recommends considering a WAF or services such as Cloudflare or Akamai for application-layer threats. A production API may still need per-IP and per-account rate limits, request-body limits, queueing, database connection limits, caching, authentication throttling, and origin firewall rules.
Who should avoid it: customers seeking turnkey server administration, or operators who need a documented specialist mitigation capacity for arbitrary UDP, game, VPN, or custom-protocol services.

Verdict: Vultr is attractive when you need global Compute locations and want an explicit DDoS add-on rather than an undocumented security claim.
Vultr documents DDoS Protection at $10 per month per eligible Compute instance and says the feature adds 10 Gbps of mitigation capacity. The feature can be enabled during deployment or later in the Vultr Console. The $10 fee changes the real monthly price of a low-cost instance, so compare the protected total rather than the base Compute price.
Vultr suits developers deploying across multiple regions, and customers who prefer hourly or monthly infrastructure billing. The important qualification is eligibility: protection is not automatically equivalent across every Vultr product, region, or service type. Vultr’s Load Balancer documentation clarifies that a Load Balancer does not itself provide the same DDoS protection; enhanced protection is associated with eligible Compute plans and network-edge enforcement.

Confirm the selected location, instance type, protected protocols, IPv4 and IPv6 behavior, packet-rate limits, notification process, and what happens if attacks exceed documented or practical limits.
Who should avoid it: buyers who assume every Vultr product includes enhanced protection or who want provider-managed operating-system and application security.
6. Akamai Connected Cloud / Linode: best predictable cloud platform
Verdict: Akamai Connected Cloud is a sound developer platform with predictable pricing, but base Linode compute should not be confused with Akamai’s specialist DDoS and edge-security products.
Akamai’s North America pricing page listed a 2-GB Linode plan at $12 per month and a 4-GB plan at $24 per month in the supplied research. The amounts are region-specific price signals and should be checked for current transfer, storage, tax, and billing details.
Linode is a sensible foundation for web applications, APIs, and teams that want a mature cloud platform. Customers may later add CDN, WAF, or broader Akamai edge and security services, but the article should not imply that those specialist protections are bundled into every base Compute plan.
Build the security design separately: use a reverse proxy for web traffic, restrict the origin, add application rate limits, protect databases, and verify how non-HTTP services are handled. A predictable VPS bill does not necessarily include a predictable DDoS mitigation commitment.
Who should avoid it: customers seeking a simple all-inclusive DDoS product rather than a cloud platform that requires additional security architecture.
7. Hostinger: best low-cost option for ordinary websites
Verdict: Hostinger is a reasonable budget choice for small business websites, WordPress, portfolios, and learning environments, but its free DDoS claim is not enough evidence for high-risk custom services.
Hostinger markets free DDoS protection on its VPS page. The supplied comparison evidence displayed a starting price of $6.49 per month on Hostinger’s Hostinger-versus-Contabo page when checked. Confirm whether that price requires a long prepaid term, and separately check renewal price, tax, refund conditions, backups, and control-panel costs.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Hostinger’s simplified management experience may be more approachable than a raw cloud VPS. However, “free DDoS protection” does not establish coverage for every TCP or UDP protocol, attack layer, port, region, or attack duration. A website can be a good fit while a game server, VPN, public proxy, or custom UDP service is not.
Who should avoid it: operators who need published mitigation capacity, protocol-specific protection, or a clear attack-response SLA unless Hostinger confirms those details in writing for the exact VPS plan.
8. Contabo: best resource-per-dollar candidate
Verdict: Contabo is worth considering when RAM and storage per dollar matter most and the customer is comfortable with more self-management and less extensive support.
Contabo publishes its VPS products, while the supplied Hostinger comparison page displayed Contabo pricing beginning at $5.50 per month and stated that both providers offer free DDoS protection. That comparison is useful commercial evidence, but it does not by itself establish mitigation capacity, covered layers, packet-rate limits, supported protocols, or sustained-attack handling.
Rank #4
- Threaded hole hardware kit - 50 each #12-24 screws
- Fastens equipment to threaded hole rack mount rails
- Compatible with all #12-24 threaded hole racks
Contabo can suit memory-heavy applications and self-managed services with moderate support needs. More RAM does not prevent an upstream bandwidth flood, a saturated connection table, a database attack, or an application-worker exhaustion event. Backup frequency, restore testing, monitoring, support escalation, and location availability may matter more than the headline resource allocation.
Who should avoid it: businesses that prioritize premium support, documented incident response, managed hardening, or a clearly defined DDoS protection SLA over raw resources.
9. ScalaHosting: best managed control-panel alternative
Verdict: ScalaHosting is a plausible managed VPS alternative for WordPress businesses, agencies, and customers who want migration and control-panel convenience, but protection must be verified at plan level.
ScalaHosting’s managed cloud VPS offering is relevant to readers who want more administration than an unmanaged cloud instance. Managed features, migration assistance, backups, control panels, and security tooling can reduce operational work.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Malware scanning, hardening, and server management are not the same as upstream DDoS scrubbing. Before purchase, ask whether DDoS protection is included, outsourced, or limited to network-level traffic; which layers and protocols are covered; whether the selected data center is eligible; and what happens during a sustained attack. Do not assign ScalaHosting a specific mitigation capacity without current first-party confirmation.
Who should avoid it: technically capable users who want the cheapest raw compute and do not need managed administration, or high-risk operators who require published DDoS capacity and protocol coverage.
How should the providers be scored?
A useful comparison separates actual DDoS evidence from ordinary hosting features. The suggested weights below prevent a large RAM allocation, attractive control panel, or low introductory price from disguising weak protection documentation.
| Criterion | Suggested weight | What to examine |
|---|---|---|
| DDoS coverage clarity | 25% | Layers, protocols, included or optional status, capacity, and exclusions |
| Mitigation architecture | 15% | Upstream filtering, scrubbing, reverse proxy, anycast, null-routing, or private interconnects |
| VPS quality | 15% | CPU, RAM, storage, transfer, IPv4/IPv6, and network speed |
| Administration | 15% | Patching, support, control panel, migration, monitoring, and management scope |
| Price transparency | 10% | Renewal price, billing term, taxes, backups, control panel, add-ons, and overages |
| Locations and latency | 8% | Regions relevant to customers and players |
| Backup and recovery | 7% | Snapshot or backup frequency, retention, and restore process |
| Support and incident response | 5% | 24/7 availability, escalation, attack alerts, and provider communication |
Use an evidence grade when comparing claims: Grade A means official documentation states scope and behavior; Grade B means an official product page confirms protection but omits important limits; Grade C means a comparison-page or third-party claim needs confirmation; Grade D means generic security marketing without usable technical detail. The supplied evidence is strongest for OVHcloud, Liquid Web, DigitalOcean, and Vultr, while the lower-cost or managed candidates need more plan-specific verification.

Ask which tasks the provider performs automatically and which tasks remain billable or customer-owned.
Which provider suits each workload?
| Workload | Best starting point | Architecture and caution |
|---|---|---|
| WordPress or business website | Hostinger, ScalaHosting, or Liquid Web | Use a CDN/WAF, restrict the origin, cache aggressively, and verify renewal and management costs |
| Ecommerce | Liquid Web or a managed alternative | Network mitigation does not replace WAF rules, checkout protection, backups, and database capacity planning |
| API or SaaS | DigitalOcean, Vultr, or Akamai Connected Cloud | Add application rate limits, queues, endpoint controls, caching, and database isolation |
| Game server | OVHcloud or a specialist game-protection provider | Confirm UDP, game protocol, player-port, packet-rate, and direct-IP protection |
| VPN, proxy, or custom TCP/UDP service | OVHcloud, eligible Vultr Compute, or specialist DDoS infrastructure | Ordinary web proxies do not automatically protect arbitrary protocols |
| Development and staging | DigitalOcean, Vultr, or Linode | Keep costs controlled, but do not expose staging credentials or management ports |
| High-traffic media | A cloud platform with CDN and object-storage design | Use edge caching and separate origin delivery from the VPS |
| Memory-heavy application | Contabo or another resource-focused provider | Check backups, support, upstream mitigation, and database resilience—not just RAM |
| Compliance-sensitive business | A provider with documented locations, contracts, logging, backups, and incident procedures | Confirm compliance obligations and DDoS response in writing before deployment |
When should a website use Cloudflare with a VPS?
A normal website should generally use a reverse proxy or CDN in front of the VPS when the application can operate over HTTP or HTTPS. The proxy can absorb or filter web traffic, cache content, conceal the origin IP, and provide application-layer controls that basic VPS mitigation may not include.
The usual pattern is:
Domain DNS
↓
CDN / reverse proxy / WAF
↓
VPS origin with restricted firewall
↓
Web server, application, and database
Cloudflare advertises unmetered DDoS protection for web applications and displayed a Free plan at $0 per month plus a Pro plan at $20 per month when billed annually or $25 monthly when checked. Cloudflare’s web product protects applications behind its proxy; it should not be represented as whole-VPS protection for arbitrary services.
Proxy only the required web ports, restrict origin access to the proxy’s published IP ranges where practical, disable unnecessary services, configure application rate limits and connection limits, and keep independent backups. If the VPS IP was previously exposed through DNS history, mail records, server responses, third-party services, or old configuration, enabling a proxy may not be enough. Change the origin IP and restrict direct access.

Does Cloudflare protect game servers, VPNs, mail, and UDP services?
Ordinary Cloudflare website proxy protection does not automatically protect a game server, VPN, mail server, SSH endpoint, or arbitrary UDP application. Those services require provider-level network mitigation, a specialized proxy or relay, or a network service designed to route and scrub the relevant traffic.
Cloudflare’s documented coverage distinguishes web traffic from other protocols and does not make ordinary website protection a substitute for protection of SMTP, IMAP, or POP3. A public game or custom UDP service should use a provider that explicitly supports UDP and the relevant protocol.
Cloudflare Magic Transit protects routed IP prefixes and can deliver clean traffic to an origin through GRE, IPsec, private interconnects, or peering, as described in Cloudflare’s traffic-flow documentation. Magic Transit is architecturally different from ordinary website proxying and is an enterprise network-security product, not a conventional low-cost VPS add-on. Its DDoS documentation includes programmable protection for relevant network traffic, including UDP scenarios.
What happens during a DDoS attack?
The result depends on the provider’s architecture and policy. Mitigation may be automatic and always on, activated after detection, or applied by a support or security team. The provider may preserve the VPS IP, filter traffic at the edge, rate-limit traffic, null-route the address, or suspend the service if an attack breaches an abuse or fair-use policy.
Most providers do not publish every operational detail. Ask whether the provider measures bits per second, packets per second, or both; whether mitigation has a capacity or duration limit; whether attacks generate customer alerts and reports; whether attack-related overages are billed; whether the selected location is covered; and whether the provider can keep the service online during a multi-hour or multi-day event.
“Unlimited DDoS protection” must be read carefully. The phrase may mean no separate bandwidth charge, no published attack-size ceiling, protection for a defined attack class, or provider discretion to null-route or suspend. The phrase does not guarantee unlimited packet rates, uninterrupted availability, or protection against every Layer 7 attack.
What questions should you ask before buying?
- Is DDoS protection included on the exact VPS plan?
- Is protection always on, or does the provider activate it after detection?
- Which OSI layers, protocols, ports, and address families are covered?
- What mitigation capacity and packet-rate limits apply?
- Is protection available in the chosen data center?
- Are UDP, GRE, VPN, game, mail, and custom ports supported?
- Will the provider null-route the IP during an attack?
- Are attack-duration, bandwidth, fair-use, or abuse-policy limits documented?
- Is there an additional charge for mitigation or attack-related traffic?
- Does protection cover the origin IP from direct attacks?
- Are attack alerts, traffic statistics, and incident reports provided?
- What happens if the attack continues for hours or days?
Common failure modes and overlooked risks
A protected VPS can still go offline
A protected VPS can become unavailable if an attack saturates an upstream link, the provider null-routes the address, the VPS exhausts CPU or connection resources, the database is overwhelmed, the origin IP is attacked directly, the provider covers only Layers 3 and 4, or a firewall blocks legitimate traffic during mitigation.
Recommended Free Tools
CDN protection and VPS protection are complementary
A CDN can hide and protect a web origin while leaving direct IP traffic, UDP services, mail, VPN endpoints, game servers, non-HTTP APIs, and management ports outside the proxy. Provider-level mitigation can stop a network flood without identifying sophisticated HTTP requests. Many production systems need both layers.
Backups are not DDoS protection
Backups help recover from data corruption, ransomware, accidental deletion, compromise, failed migrations, and other recovery events. Backups do not keep a live service online during a bandwidth flood or application-layer attack. Test restoration separately from DDoS planning.
IPv4 and IPv6 can create separate exposure paths
If a service has both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, verify that the provider’s mitigation and firewall policies cover both address families. Protecting one address while leaving the other publicly reachable can give an attacker an alternate route to the origin.

Basic VPS DDoS protection commonly focuses on Layer 3 and Layer 4 network traffic, not Layer 7 HTTP or application attacks. Web applications may need a CDN, WAF, caching, bot controls, and application-specific rate limits in addition to provider-level mitigation.
Is Cloudflare enough to protect a VPS?
Cloudflare can protect a website behind its reverse proxy, but ordinary website protection does not automatically protect the VPS IP, arbitrary TCP or UDP services, mail, VPNs, SSH, or game servers. The origin must also be restricted, and a previously exposed origin IP may need to be changed.
Is DDoS protection included with every VPS provider in this comparison?
No. OVHcloud and DigitalOcean provide the clearest evidence of included infrastructure-level protection in the supplied research; Liquid Web includes basic VPS protection; Vultr documents a paid add-on for eligible Compute instances. Hostinger and Contabo market free protection, while ScalaHosting requires plan-specific confirmation of scope and response terms.
Can a DDoS-protected VPS still go offline during an attack?
Yes. A service can still fail because of upstream saturation, null-routing, CPU or connection exhaustion, database overload, direct-origin exposure, unsupported attack layers, or an abuse-policy suspension. DDoS protection reduces risk; it is not a guarantee of uninterrupted availability.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Antihost is listed first here: its Linux VPS with L3/L4 DDoS protection is self-managed, with full root access and a 14-day free trial. Choose OVHcloud for included anti-DDoS value, Liquid Web for managed support, DigitalOcean for developer-friendly infrastructure, and Vultr when a documented paid protection add-on fits the budget. Put websites behind a CDN/WAF, and choose specialist or enterprise network protection for game, VPN, mail, or custom UDP workloads. Before checkout, verify the exact plan’s layers, protocols, capacity, location, pricing term, notification process, and null-routing policy.
