The 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard – Xbox Edition is a Windows and Android keyboard with original-Xbox-inspired styling—not a keyboard for Xbox consoles. Windows Central reported it at $89.99 on Amazon US on October 7, 2026, versus a stated $119.99 US retail price; that dated deal may not still be available.
Does the 8BitDo Xbox Edition keyboard work with Xbox consoles?
No. 8BitDo support answers “No” to whether the keyboard can be used on Xbox consoles. Its Xbox license and design are about styling, not console compatibility. The manufacturer lists Windows 10 (1903) and later, and Android 9.0 and later, as supported platforms. The built-in Xbox button activates Windows Game Bar.
8BitDo describes it as “Designed with Xbox. Inspired by the original Xbox console. Officially licensed. Compatible with Windows and Android.” See the 8BitDo support FAQ and official product specifications.

What kind of keyboard is it?
The Retro 87 is an 87-key tenkeyless mechanical keyboard: it omits the dedicated number pad found on full-size keyboards. Its transparent-green case and retro details take their cues from the original Xbox. For a desk where space or number entry matters, consider whether the compact layout suits your work—and whether you want a separate numpad.
Switches, layout, and customization
8BitDo specifies Kailh Jellyfish X switches, a hot-swappable PCB, N-key rollover, RGB backlighting, shortcut keys, and double-layered ABS keycaps with a matte UV coating. The manufacturer says third-party three- or five-pin switches and third-party OEM keycaps are supported. The matching Retro 18 Mechanical Numpad is sold separately; Windows Central reported its US price as $44.99, but current stock and price are not established here.

- 8BITDO RETRO 87-KEY WIRELESS RGB MECHANICAL GAMING KEYBOARD - XBOX EDITION
The included Dual Super Buttons are programmable macro/function buttons. One set is included, and 8BitDo says up to four sets can be connected. Configuration is supported through 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2.
Connections and battery
You can connect over Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4 GHz wireless, or wired USB. 8BitDo rates its 4,000 mAh rechargeable battery for up to 280 hours on 2.4 GHz or 300 hours over Bluetooth. Those are manufacturer ratings, not independent test results; the product page does not establish the conditions behind the figures.

Size and included accessories
The keyboard measures 376.6 × 169.6 × 46.8 mm and weighs 1,100 g, according to 8BitDo. The box includes a Dual Super Buttons set, 2.4 GHz adapter, USB cable, manual, and stickers. The official product page also advertises one month of PC Game Pass for new members only; treat that as a limited eligibility offer, not a cash discount or benefit available to everyone.
What are the trade-offs?
In a review published October 7, 2026, Jennifer Young of Windows Central said she had used the keyboard daily for around four months. She praised its retro design, typing and gaming feel, and practical extras. Her reported drawbacks include loud stock switches, ABS keys that show finger shine or grease, and a frame that takes up desk space. Those observations are the reviewer’s experience, not independent testing by this publication.

- Consider it if: you want an Xbox-inspired design for a Windows or Android setup, enjoy a clicky mechanical typing sound, and value switch and keycap customization.
- Look elsewhere if: you need Xbox-console support, a built-in number pad, a quiet or low-profile keyboard, or a smaller desk footprint.
- Budget for extras: the numpad is separate, and the Windows Central review notes that the optional numpad uses its own wireless dongle rather than sharing the keyboard’s.
Is it worth buying?
At the reported $89.99 Amazon US price, it is a more appealing buy for someone specifically seeking the licensed retro look and a loud, customizable tenkeyless board. At the stated $119.99 retail price, weigh those preferences against the missing number pad and the fact that it does not connect to Xbox consoles. Windows Central also names the Razer BlackWidow V4 75% Xbox 25th Anniversary keyboard as an alternative and reported it at $209.99 US; its current price and availability should be checked separately. Compare total cost, layout, noise, connectivity, software compatibility, and console support rather than relying on Xbox branding alone.
