The right WordPress newsletter plugin depends on how you want to manage subscribers and send email. MailPoet and The Newsletter Plugin center the workflow in WordPress; FluentCRM combines newsletters with a self-hosted CRM; Icegram Express covers newsletter and list-building workflows; and Brevo and Omnisend connect WordPress to broader marketing services. No comparable usability test establishes one as objectively easiest, so use the setup and feature differences below to choose.

How to choose a WordPress newsletter plugin

Compare the whole email setup, not just the editor. A plugin may manage subscribers in WordPress while relying on your web host, an SMTP configuration, or a separate sending service to deliver messages. Those choices affect setup, operating responsibilities, and potential costs.

  • Subscriber data: Determine whether records are managed primarily in WordPress or in a connected service.
  • Sending: Check whether email goes through the host, the plugin vendor’s service, or another email provider. A plugin alone does not guarantee inbox placement.
  • Campaigns: Match the tool to your needs for broadcasts, scheduled campaigns, post notifications, forms, and editing.
  • Automation and ecommerce: Verify the specific workflows, integrations, and plan requirements you need.
  • Total cost and limits: Check subscriber tiers, sending volume, branding, paid features, add-ons, and provider charges. A free download or unlimited-subscriber claim does not establish unlimited sending or zero operating cost.
  • Maintenance: A WordPress-centered or self-hosted setup can offer more direct control, but you take on more responsibility for the site, database, and delivery configuration. A connected service can centralize delivery and marketing functions.

The official listings describe capabilities, not a standardized comparison of ease of use, deliverability, or total cost. Treat the choices below as workflow matches rather than a tested ranking.

The six plugins at a glance

Plugin Best fit What the listing documents Key consideration
MailPoet Managing newsletters and subscribers from WordPress Forms, lists, scheduled newsletters, post notifications, and selected WooCommerce email use cases The downloadable plugin, sending method, and paid-plan features have different conditions.
The Newsletter Plugin A focused newsletter workflow with campaign tools Lists, custom fields, forms, campaign tracking, drag-and-drop composition, HTML editing, speed controls, and SMTP-plugin compatibility Unlimited subscribers does not mean unlimited sending; add-ons may be needed for some functions.
FluentCRM Combining campaigns, subscriber records, and automation in WordPress Lead collection, newsletter sending and tracking, subscriber workflows, and WooCommerce-related segmentation Its self-hosted model makes your database and delivery setup your responsibility.
Icegram Express WordPress-based list building, newsletters, and notifications Forms, lists, broadcasts, post notifications, automation, segmentation, and SMTP or email-service-provider connections Check whether the specific automation or integration you need is included free or requires Pro.
Brevo Connecting WordPress to a broader marketing service The directory describes email, SMS, web push, and chat A WordPress connection is not the same as a self-contained WordPress sending system; detailed plan comparisons are not established here.
Omnisend Newsletter and marketing needs that may extend into ecommerce The directory describes newsletters, email automation, forms, popups, and SMS The directory description does not support a detailed feature or price ranking against the other options.

1. MailPoet: newsletters from the WordPress dashboard

MailPoet suits site owners who want to create campaigns, manage subscribers and lists, build forms, schedule newsletters, and send automatic post notifications without centering the workflow on an outside marketing dashboard. The official listing also describes selected WooCommerce email use cases.

MailPoet’s vendor describes its product as letting users “create, send, manage, and grow your email marketing campaigns – all without leaving your WordPress dashboard.” That is product positioning, not an independent usability assessment.

Separate three decisions before choosing: installing the downloadable plugin, selecting how messages are sent, and determining whether a feature or sending option requires a paid plan. The listing says the free download supports up to 1,000 subscribers and can send through the site’s own sending method; MailPoet’s Sending Service and some advanced features have plan conditions. Confirm the current terms and sending limits for your intended setup on the official WordPress listing.

2. The Newsletter Plugin: a focused campaign toolkit

The Newsletter Plugin is a WordPress-centered option for managing lists and running campaigns. Its listing describes forms, custom fields, campaign tracking, a drag-and-drop composer, HTML editing, delivery-speed controls, and compatibility with SMTP plugins. It also lists add-ons for functions such as SMTP, importing, and API access.

The listing advertises unlimited subscribers, but that is not a promise of unlimited email volume. Actual sending capacity depends on the server or sending provider and its limits. Check which add-ons and delivery configuration your workflow requires on the official WordPress listing.

3. FluentCRM: a self-hosted CRM and email workflow

FluentCRM is the most direct fit in this group if you want subscriber records, newsletter campaigns, and automation managed as a self-hosted CRM inside WordPress. Its listing describes lead collection, newsletter sending and tracking, workflows involving users and commenters, and WooCommerce-related segmentation.

“Self-hosted” is a meaningful operational distinction: consider the site’s database, maintenance, and email-delivery configuration as part of the decision. The plugin’s presence in WordPress does not by itself establish that delivery is configured or that messages will reach inboxes. Review the FluentCRM listing for its documented capabilities.

4. Icegram Express: forms, broadcasts, and notifications

Icegram Express covers several WordPress-native newsletter tasks: forms, lists, broadcasts, post notifications, segmentation, and automation. Its listing also describes connections to SMTP or email service providers, which means delivery setup still matters.

The listing separates free capabilities from Pro features. Verify the edition required for the particular automation or integration you plan to use rather than assuming every listed capability is included in the free version. See the Icegram Express listing.

5. Brevo: a broader service connected to WordPress

Brevo is better considered when your needs go beyond newsletters. The WordPress.org directory describes a wider service spanning email, SMS, web push, and chat. A plugin connection lets WordPress work with that service; it should not be confused with a fully self-contained WordPress sending system.

The available directory description does not establish a detailed feature-by-feature or price comparison with the other plugins. Check the Brevo WordPress listing and the service’s current terms for the capabilities and limits relevant to your use case.

6. Omnisend: newsletters with wider marketing features

Omnisend is another service-led option for readers whose marketing may extend beyond a newsletter. Its WordPress.org description includes newsletters, email automation, forms, popups, and SMS, making it a potential fit for ecommerce-style marketing needs.

Which WordPress newsletter plugin is easiest to use?

There is no substantiated universal winner: the available listings do not provide a comparable usability study, and “easy” depends on the workflow you already understand. Use this practical match instead:

  • Choose MailPoet if you want campaigns, lists, forms, and post notifications centered in the WordPress dashboard.
  • Choose The Newsletter Plugin if you want a focused campaign toolkit with list management, composition options, and SMTP-plugin compatibility.
  • Choose FluentCRM if combining subscriber records and automation in a self-hosted WordPress CRM is more important than keeping setup responsibilities minimal.
  • Consider Icegram Express if its forms, broadcasts, and notification workflow fits, after checking which edition includes the features you need.
  • Consider Brevo or Omnisend if you want a broader service with capabilities beyond newsletters and are comfortable connecting WordPress to it.

Before committing, verify the sending and cost details

  • Identify where subscriber data is stored and who controls access to it.
  • Confirm the sending route: site host, plugin vendor, SMTP configuration, or connected provider.
  • Check subscriber and send-volume limits separately; they are not interchangeable.
  • Verify whether the features you need—especially automations, ecommerce workflows, imports, or integrations—require a paid plan or add-on.
  • Account for provider charges and your own maintenance responsibilities, not just the plugin’s download price.
