Brushless is easiest to justify on Ryobi tools that face repeated, demanding work: a drill/driver, impact driver, reciprocating saw, angle grinder, and string trimmer. That is a workload-based recommendation, not a claim that every brushless model is worth its price premium. RYOBI describes its ONE+ HP system as combining brushless motors, advanced electronics, and high-performance lithium technology for more power, longer runtime, and longer motor life; those are manufacturer claims, not independent head-to-head test results. RYOBI’s product page

When does paying extra for brushless make sense?

Brushless is most compelling when a tool is used often, works under sustained load, or regularly handles tougher jobs. In those conditions, the potential advantages RYOBI attributes to its ONE+ HP system may matter more than they do for occasional light-duty use. That is a practical inference, not proof that a specific brushless model will outperform its closest brushed counterpart for every task.

To decide whether the premium is worthwhile, compare the exact brushless and brushed models on price, included battery and charger, performance for your tasks, runtime under that load, size and weight, and warranty. The available product information does not provide matched prices or controlled comparisons, so there is no basis for saying brushless always pays off.

Which Ryobi tools are worth buying brushless?

1. Drill/driver: PBLDD02B

RYOBI’s ONE+ collection lists the 18V ONE+ HP Brushless 1/2-inch Drill/Driver, model PBLDD02B. A drill/driver is the versatile choice for drilling holes and driving screws, so frequent use across those jobs makes it a sensible place to consider brushless. RYOBI’s separate five-tool kit page gives its kit drill/driver a rating of up to 400 in.-lbs. of torque and a length of 6.4 inches; those figures describe the tool on that kit page and should not be assumed to apply to PBLDD02B. #1 Best Overall
Ryobi ONE+ 18V Cordless Oscillating Multi-Tool (Tool Only)
  • 18V ONE+ oscillating multi-tool designed for cutting, sanding, scraping, and more across a variety of materials using interchangeable accessories.
  • Variable speed dial lets you adjust the oscillation rate up to 20,000 OPM for precision work or more aggressive cutting.
  • Lowest vibration in its class reduces user fatigue for longer periods of use and smoother control.
  • Ergonomic design with lock-on button and convenient on-board accessory storage for quick blade changes and tool organization.
  • Ryobi PCL430 18V Multi Tool (Tool Only)

Before buying, check whether the exact listing is tool-only or includes a battery and charger. Is brushless worth it for a Ryobi drill? It is most defensible when drilling and driving are routine or demanding; for occasional light jobs, compare the actual price and kit contents with a brushed option before spending more.

2. Impact driver: PSBID02K

RYOBI lists the 18V ONE+ HP Compact Brushless 1/4-inch Hex Impact Driver Kit, model PSBID02K. An impact driver is designed for driving fasteners, while a drill/driver is the more flexible choice when you also need to drill holes. If you drive many long or large fasteners, brushless is easier to justify than for infrequent household screwdriving. RYOBI’s five-tool kit page states up to 1,700 in.-lbs. of torque and a length of 5.3 inches for the impact driver in that kit; those are RYOBI specifications for the kit tool, not verified specifications for PSBID02K. • ADJUSTABLE GUARD & DEPTH GUIDE: Features an adjustable guard for safety plus customizable cutting depth (up to 0.62 inches) to handle precise multi-material applications
  • DUAL LED LIGHTS & QUICK-STOP BRAKE: Dual LEDs illuminate the work area from multiple angles (before the blade and on the shoe) for better visibility; electric brake stops the wheel rapidly for enhanced safety
  • CONVENIENT FEATURES: Includes forward/reverse cutting capability, onboard blade wrench storage, 3-inch wheel compatibility (with included metal, carbide abrasive, and diamond tile blades in some kits), and compatibility with all RYOBI ONE+ 18V batteries.

Because PSBID02K is listed as a kit, confirm its current battery and charger contents and compare them with any tool-only alternative before judging the price.

3. Reciprocating saw: verify the current model first

A reciprocating saw used for repeated cutting or demolition is a plausible brushless purchase: sustained, demanding work is where the potential power and runtime benefits matter most. The specific evidence available here, however, is for a one-handed saw included in RYOBI’s HP brushless five-tool kit, not a confirmed current standalone model. RYOBI describes that kit saw as delivering 0–3,000 strokes per minute (SPM) at a length of 13 inches. The kit model PSBCK05K2 is marked discontinued, so those details do not establish that the kit or saw is currently available as a standalone purchase. RYOBI five-tool kit page

Before choosing a reciprocating saw, confirm the current model number, listing, included battery and charger, and model-specific specifications. The kit-page figures are not a substitute for checking a current standalone product.

4. Angle grinder: PBLAG02K1

RYOBI’s second ONE+ collection page lists the 18V ONE+ HP Brushless 4-1/2-inch Angle Grinder/Cut-Off Tool Kit, model PBLAG02K1. Grinding and cutting can put a tool under sustained load, making this a reasonable category in which to value brushless if those jobs are regular parts of your work. The collection listing alone does not establish the kit’s exact accessories or which discs are compatible, so verify both on the current product listing before buying. RYOBI ONE+ collection page 2

RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Oscillating Multi-Tool (Tool Only) PBLMT51B
  • NEXT-GEN 18V ONE+ HP Brushless Multi-Tool delivers up to 80 % faster cutting and 2.5× more cuts than previous generation models, perfect for demanding renovation, demolition, and remodeling tasks.
  • Versatile oscillating performance with variable speed control (up to 20,000 OPM) makes cutting, sanding, grinding, and scraping wood, drywall, metal, plastic, and more easier than ever.
  • Tool-free accessory change system lets you swap blades and attachments quickly without downtime, boosting efficiency on any jobsite.
  • Reduced vibration and built-in LED work light provide increased comfort and better visibility in tight or poorly lit spaces for confident precision work.
  • Converts to a detail sander with included sanding pad and accessories, expanding its usefulness beyond just cutting and trimming tasks.

5. String trimmer: P20190

RYOBI’s ONE+ collection lists the 18V ONE+ HP Brushless 15-inch String Trimmer Kit, model P20190. Frequent trimming or a larger workload makes brushless more attractive than occasional light trimming, but runtime depends on the actual task and battery configuration. Compare the kit with any tool-only listing and check the battery capacity and charger included; the collection listing does not establish which configuration best suits a particular yard. How to compare brushless and brushed versions before buying

  1. Match the job. Compare tools intended for the same tasks rather than relying on a category name alone.
  2. Compare the complete purchase. Check current prices and whether each listing includes a battery and charger; a kit and a tool-only listing are not equivalent.
  3. Check load and runtime needs. Consider how often and how hard the tool will be used, and whether the battery capacity suits that work. Manufacturer runtime claims, where provided, are not the same as a controlled comparison for your conditions.
  4. Confirm the details for the exact model. Verify weight, dimensions, warranty, included accessories, and compatibility on the product page. Do not transfer specifications from a bundle tool to a similarly named standalone model.

RYOBI describes its ONE+ lineup as a battery platform with more than 300 compatible products. That broad platform statement does not by itself verify compatibility for every particular tool-and-battery combination; check the exact product listing before relying on an existing battery.
