Five useful additions to a Plex setup solve five different problems: Tautulli shows server activity, Seerr streamlines media requests, Kometa automates library presentation, ErsatzTV creates scheduled channels, and Plexamp gives music its own listening app. They are companion apps and independent software—not all “Plex plugins” in the old sense.
That distinction matters: Plex has phased down its legacy plugin system and said in December 2025 that it planned to remove the legacy metadata-agent system from new Plex Media Server releases during 2026. Newer metadata providers use a separate HTTP API approach. Those changes concern legacy plugins and agents; they do not mean every independent app that integrates with Plex has stopped working. Check each project’s current instructions and your Plex Media Server version before installing.

1. Tautulli: see what your Plex server is doing
Tautulli is a third-party app for monitoring Plex server activity and viewing statistics. Its documented features include history, trends, notifications, and recently added media. That makes it useful when you want a clearer picture of how a household uses the server—what is being watched and when—rather than relying only on Plex’s playback interface.
It is separate software, not a Plex-owned feature. Plan to run and maintain it alongside Plex Media Server, and consult the Tautulli project site for current setup guidance.

2. Seerr: make requests easier for everyone at home
Seerr combines discovery with media-request management for Plex and other media servers. Instead of handling every “can you add this?” conversation manually, household members can find titles and submit requests through a dedicated interface. Its documentation also covers Plex library scanning and integrations with Radarr and Sonarr, which can help connect a request to an existing media-automation workflow.
The current project is called Seerr; its site describes it as unifying the Overseerr and Jellyseerr projects. If you have seen either predecessor name, Seerr is the name to look for in current project documentation. Requests are most useful when you already have—or intend to configure—the related automation tools. See the Seerr project site for details.

3. Kometa: build a more curated-looking library
Kometa can configure collections, overlays, playlists, and metadata presentation. Its builders can draw on Plex and external sources, giving you more ways to organize and visually distinguish a library than Plex’s default organization alone.
The trade-off is configuration and upkeep: Kometa is for people willing to define and maintain how their library should look, not a one-click beginner add-on. Its documentation lists local and Docker installation walkthroughs, including NAS-oriented options. Review the Kometa documentation before choosing a deployment route.

4. ErsatzTV: make personal channels from your library
ErsatzTV turns media into custom live-style channels with schedules and EPG/IPTV output, and it integrates with Plex. It suits viewers who want to browse a channel and let programming play, rather than choose a specific title each time. Because that is a particular way to watch—not a universal Plex improvement—it is best for households that actually enjoy channel-surfing.
The project distinguishes ErsatzTV Legacy and says Legacy will continue receiving security updates for the foreseeable future. Check the current ErsatzTV project site and documentation to confirm which edition and installation instructions apply to your setup.

5. Plexamp: give your music library a dedicated player
Plexamp is Plex’s companion music player for Plex libraries. It is the natural choice if you want music listening to feel separate from browsing a general media server. Plex describes it as “A completely custom music player built for you to rediscover, curate, or completely lose yourself in the music that made you.”
Do not assume every Plexamp feature is included at no cost: Plex lists premium features including Sonic Sage, Guest DJ, and Mix Builders as Plex Pass features. Check the current Plex plans page for the applicable feature and subscription details.

How to choose without overcomplicating your server
- Want visibility into household viewing? Start with Tautulli.
- Want household members to suggest and request titles? Consider Seerr, especially if you use Radarr or Sonarr.
- Want carefully configured collections and visual organization? Choose Kometa if you are comfortable maintaining configuration.
- Want scheduled, lean-back channels? Try ErsatzTV if that format suits how you watch.
- Want a dedicated way to play Plex music? Use Plexamp, checking which premium features require Plex Pass.
These tools address separate needs, so there is no reason to install all five by default. Confirm current compatibility and setup requirements in each project’s documentation, particularly when a tool interacts with a Plex feature or server version affected by legacy-plugin changes.
