The best React table component depends on how much of the interface you want to build yourself. Choose TanStack Table for a headless engine and complete UI control; AG Grid for a broad prebuilt grid; MUI X Data Grid for a styled grid that fits an MUI app; PrimeReact DataTable for an unstyled, composable table; or Mantine React Table for a prebuilt table oriented around Mantine. These are use-case recommendations, not results of a shared benchmark.
How to choose a React table library
Start with the implementation model, then check feature coverage, licensing, data handling, and compatibility with your existing UI stack. A headless table engine provides logic and state but leaves you to build the interface. A prebuilt data grid gives you more of the interface and interactions up front. Unstyled or composable components sit between those approaches.
- UI ownership: Decide whether you need control over markup and interactions or prefer a ready-made grid you can theme.
- Required features: List the specific needs—such as sorting, filtering, pagination, editing, grouping, tree data, export, pinning, resizing, and selection—before comparing editions.
- License: Verify whether the features you need are available in the free tier or require a commercial license.
- Data strategy: Establish whether the whole dataset can be loaded in the browser or whether filtering and pagination must happen on the server. Virtualization addresses rendering many visible rows; it does not perform server-side data operations.
- Stack fit: Check compatibility with the React version, design system, and component-library versions used by your project.
Which React table component should you use?
TanStack Table: best for a fully custom UI
TanStack Table is a headless library: it supplies table state and logic, while your application supplies the markup, styling, and user-facing controls. The official documentation lists React among its adapters and describes compatibility with component libraries and custom design systems. It is a strong fit when you want to build a table that follows your own design system rather than adopt a grid’s built-in presentation.
Virtualization is a separate concern. TanStack’s React virtualization guide says virtualization is not built into TanStack Table; its examples use TanStack Virtual, and the table can also be paired with other virtualizers. If the complete dataset is too large to load in the browser, virtualizing rendered rows does not replace server-side filtering or pagination.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
AG Grid: best for a broad prebuilt grid feature set
AG Grid provides a React data grid with Community and Enterprise tiers. Community is the free version; Enterprise adds advanced features. The vendor states that production use of Enterprise features requires an Enterprise license. Feature allocation and pricing can change, so check the current license and pricing information against your requirements before committing.
AG Grid suits teams that want a substantial grid interface rather than assembling table behavior and presentation from scratch. Its tier distinction makes it important to identify required features early and confirm which tier includes them.

PrimeReact DataTable: best for an unstyled, composable table
PrimeReact DataTable’s current primitive documentation describes an unstyled component that lets developers control markup, layout, and styling. Documented features include sorting, filtering, pagination, selection, expansion, editing, column and row reordering, resizing, grouping, frozen sections, CSV export, and tree mode.
Before adopting it, confirm which PrimeReact package and styling approach suit your application, and check the version documentation for your project. Compatibility and migration behavior across versions are not established here.

Mantine React Table: best for a prebuilt Mantine-oriented table
Mantine React Table is built on TanStack Table v8 and Mantine v6, with a single prebuilt component available as an option. Its project page labels the listed package MRT V1 and says V2 for Mantine v7 is in development. That version note makes compatibility a decision gate: verify the project’s current release and your Mantine version before choosing it for a new Mantine v7 application.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.TanStack Table vs. AG Grid
The core difference is who builds the table interface. TanStack Table provides a headless engine, leaving the application to implement markup and styling. AG Grid provides a prebuilt React grid and separates free Community capabilities from advanced Enterprise features, which require a license for production use.

Choose TanStack Table when design control and integration with your own components matter more than having a ready-made grid. Choose AG Grid when its provided grid experience and feature set better match the application, after checking that the required capabilities are available in the tier you intend to use.
When Material UI Table is enough
Material UI Table is a lower-level set of components that maps closely to native HTML table elements. That makes it useful for simpler semantic tables in an MUI interface. The documentation notes that richer data-table scenarios can be challenging with this constraint and points users handling large amounts of tabular data toward Data Grid. Material UI Table includes building blocks such as pagination and sort labels; its virtualization example uses react-virtuoso.
Do not treat Material UI Table and MUI X Data Grid as the same product: the former is a lower-level table building block, while the latter is a styled data-grid component with its own edition structure.
Check data volume and rendering separately
For large tables, distinguish between the cost of rendering rows and the cost of obtaining or processing data. Virtualization reduces the number of rows rendered at once. Server-side filtering and pagination determine which records are fetched or processed. If the full dataset cannot reasonably be loaded into the browser, plan for server-side operations as well as an appropriate rendering strategy; virtualization alone is not a substitute.
