The 3 Legged Thing Lexie QD is a lightweight, adjustable L-bracket for photographers who want to switch between landscape and portrait tripod positions without removing the camera from the head. Its 38 mm Arca-Swiss profile, sliding camera screw and adjustable base make it more adaptable than a fixed, body-specific plate, while the built-in Quick Detach (QD) socket and XPAND slots add strap and rig options. It is not guaranteed to fit every camera or clamp: check your camera’s ports and dimensions, and confirm your tripod head is compatible before buying.
What the Lexie QD does
An L-bracket mounts beneath a camera and rises along one side. To change from a horizontal to a vertical composition, you move the bracket from the tripod head’s top clamp to its side clamp, keeping the camera centered over the head rather than cantilevered to one side. This can make portrait-orientation tripod work more balanced.
The Lexie QD is a two-axis universal design: its base can extend, and its camera screw slides to help position the bracket on different bodies. 3 Legged Thing describes it as fitting a broad range of cameras, but that positioning is not a guarantee for every model. The company’s product specifications and compatibility notes are a useful starting point; compare the bracket with your camera’s actual shape, doors and port locations.

Will it fit your camera?
Adjustability is the Lexie QD’s central advantage over a fixed plate, but fit depends on more than whether the base can reach the camera screw. The upright must sit where it will not block controls, battery access or cables, and the camera’s side ports need enough room behind the bracket. Check these points before ordering:
- Measure the space available beneath the camera and compare it with the 94–124 mm working base range.
- Check where the camera’s tripod socket sits relative to its battery door and connectors.
- Look at the side ports and any rubber weather flaps you expect to use while the bracket is fitted.
- Confirm the sliding screw and one of the four cable-cutout positions can align with your preferred setup.
Richards reports that the bracket left the ports and weather flaps accessible on the Sony A7 III he used. That is a useful example, not proof of clearance on other bodies. His review also reports stable portrait and landscape use across different camera models and lens sizes; this is the reviewer’s hands-on finding, not an independently established guarantee for every combination.

Does it work with Arca-Swiss heads?
The Lexie QD uses a 38 mm / 1.5 in Arca-Swiss profile and is intended for compatible Arca-Swiss clamps. Compatibility still depends on the specific clamp: 3 Legged Thing warns that some Manfrotto Arca-Swiss heads have a lip that can obstruct the bracket. Manfrotto RC2 plate heads are not compatible. Check the model and clamp design of your head rather than relying on a general “Arca-Swiss” label.
What QD and XPAND add
QD for compatible straps
QD means Quick Detach. The built-in socket is designed for compatible QD strap fittings, including 3 Legged Thing’s AXIS QD camera straps. It can suit photographers who alternate between carrying a camera on a strap and mounting it on a tripod. Confirm the exact strap connection before purchase; a QD socket does not make every camera strap directly compatible.

XPAND for modular accessories
The XPAND slots accept compatible 3 Legged Thing Cheese Plates, Risers and Connectors, letting users attach components to build out a camera rig. The upright also has two 1/4-20 accessory threads. These features are most useful if you already use, or plan to assemble, a modular setup; they add little to a tripod-only workflow.
How it handles, and what to weigh against a dedicated bracket
Richards describes the Lexie QD as a multi-part assembly, which may seem less reassuring than a one-piece, camera-specific bracket. In his testing, however, he did not find unwanted flex or twisting and reported stable support in both orientations. The design trades a tailored fit for adjustability and reuse across bodies, so the deciding factor is whether the adjustment range and port access work for your particular camera.

The review notes that separate hex keys are supplied for adjustment; Richards would have preferred a more comprehensive multi-tool. This is a small handling consideration rather than a reported performance problem.

Who should consider the Lexie QD?
- Consider it if you want one adjustable bracket for more than one camera, your head accepts its Arca-Swiss profile, and the bracket clears your camera’s ports and doors.
- Its extras may be worthwhile if you use compatible QD straps or XPAND rig components.
- Compare it with a body-specific bracket if exact fit and unobstructed access matter more than sharing one plate among cameras.
- Choose another mounting option if you use a Manfrotto RC2 head, or if your specific lipped clamp obstructs the bracket.
For the right camera and clamp, the Lexie QD combines an adaptable Arca-Swiss L-bracket with useful strap and rig connections. Its strongest reason to buy is versatility; its main buying check is real-world clearance on your own camera and head.
