The best anime to watch after Solo Leveling depends on what hooked you: a weak hero becoming formidable, game-like progression, dungeon fights, dark fantasy, or sheer action spectacle. This curated list matches 25 shows to those specific appeals—and flags where the resemblance stops. It is not a definitive ranking.

Pick a show by the part of Solo Leveling you want more of

Solo Leveling combines Jinwoo’s rise in power with hidden game-like mechanics, dark fantasy, and monster battles. Those are different hooks, not a single formula. The recommendations below identify their closest point of connection and the meaningful difference to expect.

  • For challenges and progression: Tower of God, The Rising of the Shield Hero, or The Unwanted Undead Adventurer.
  • For game systems and boss fights: Shangri-La Frontier or Sword Art Online.
  • For supernatural combat: The God of High School, Jujutsu Kaisen, or Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
  • For a powerful lead and spectacle: One-Punch Man or The Daily Life of the Immortal King.
  • For darker fantasy: Chainsaw Man, Berserk of Gluttony, or The Eminence in Shadow.

Only some of these use a game-like structure. Others build power through magic, training, combat, or a tournament, and several trade a mostly solo hero for a team or ensemble.

25 anime recommendations for Solo Leveling fans

For a weak-to-strong arc or staged challenges

  1. Tower of God — A seemingly weak protagonist faces increasingly difficult challenges while climbing a mysterious tower. It is a strong choice for staged tests and a large fantasy world; its tower-climbing structure differs from Jinwoo’s individual leveling system.
  2. The Rising of the Shield Hero — Choose it for an underestimated protagonist who has to grow stronger amid adversity and fantasy combat. Its progression is not the same as Solo Leveling’s game-like interface.
  3. The Unwanted Undead Adventurer — A fit for gradual growth in a monster-filled fantasy setting. Expect a more incremental progression appeal than the rapid power-fantasy spectacle of Solo Leveling.
  4. The Ossan Newbie Adventurer, Trained to Death by the Most Powerful Party, Became Invincible — Centers its appeal on an underestimated lead and the payoff of intensive training. Pick it for a training-to-power arc rather than dungeon-system similarity.
  5. Mob Psycho 100 — Offers explosive supernatural battles and a protagonist whose abilities develop, but gives substantial weight to emotional growth. It is less focused on a dark, steadily escalating power fantasy.
  6. Black Clover — A long-form growth-and-magic battle series for viewers who want a determined underdog and a broader ensemble. Its fantasy progression is not built around a leveling screen.

For game mechanics, quests, and monster fights

  1. Shangri-La Frontier — A natural pick for game-world quests, boss fights, and advancement through play. Unlike Jinwoo’s real-world dungeon raids, its central appeal is the adventure of a game world.
  2. Sword Art Online — Combines game mechanics, combat, and survival stakes. It shares the virtual-game framework more directly than most entries here, though its focus is not Jinwoo’s solo rise through a hunter system.
  3. Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? — Choose it for dungeon exploration and party-based monster battles. The group-adventure emphasis makes it a different experience from a largely solo power climb.
  4. Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest — A survival-driven fantasy in which a sudden change in circumstances sets up a dramatic power shift. It suits viewers looking for a darker underdog-to-strength trajectory, not an identical system.
  5. Failure Frame: I Became the Strongest and Annihilated Everything with Low-Level Spells — A revenge-oriented underdog story built around abilities that become increasingly formidable. Its appeal is the reversal from being dismissed to becoming dangerous.
  6. The Beginning After the End — Mixes fantasy, reincarnation, and action around a protagonist with a former life as a king. It is progression-adjacent rather than a direct match for dungeon raids; reception to the newly released anime was controversial, so it should not be treated as a universally acclaimed pick.

For magic, supernatural battles, and tournament action

  1. The God of High School — The choice for rapid supernatural tournament combat and martial-arts spectacle. It is much less about a gradual leveling-system arc than Solo Leveling.
  2. A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special — A fantasy-action option about a mage sent back in time who tries to change a disastrous future. Its battles use magic, not video-game mechanics.
  3. Jujutsu Kaisen — Delivers dark supernatural threats and battle-focused action. Pick it for the dangerous-monster atmosphere and fights, not for a leveling interface.
  4. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — A monster-hunting story with escalating combat and visual spectacle. The protagonist’s progress comes through training rather than a game system.
  5. Hunter x Hunter — Offers structured tests, tactical combat, and a developed power system. Its pacing and tone differ, but it rewards viewers who like fights shaped by rules and strategy.
  6. Noblesse — A supernatural-action pick with a very powerful lead and a hidden past. The connection is the formidable protagonist and fantasy conflict, not the mechanics of leveling.

For dark fantasy, revenge, or high-impact spectacle

  1. Chainsaw Man — A fit for dark, violent supernatural action. Its tone and power structure differ substantially, so expect a distinct kind of fantasy rather than a close copy.
  2. Berserk of Gluttony — Connects through a fantasy protagonist whose ability escalates through combat. Its darker tone is an important difference to bear in mind.
  3. The Eminence in Shadow — Pairs a powerful lead and dark-fantasy action with deliberate comedy. It suits viewers who want spectacle but are open to a knowingly comic edge.
  4. One-Punch Man — Brings an overwhelmingly powerful protagonist and action spectacle, but parody is central to the show. Choose it for the fights and comic reversal of the usual power climb.
  5. The Daily Life of the Immortal King — Features an overwhelmingly powerful lead and supernatural action in a more comedic mode. It is a lighter option than Solo Leveling.
  6. Viral Hit — An action-and-revenge-adjacent choice centered on a bullied student who turns to fighting. It has no fantasy dungeon system, so its connection is the underdog action angle, not supernatural progression.
  7. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime — A fantasy-growth pick for viewers who want an increasingly powerful lead. Its appeal is broader world-building and fantasy development rather than a dark, solo dungeon-hunting structure.

Want to continue the original story?

Solo Leveling began as a Korean web novel and became widely known through its webtoon/manhwa adaptation. If the anime’s progression is the main draw, reading the source story is another way to continue that world rather than switching to a different series. The recommendation here is to look for the English edition of Solo Leveling manhwa, Volume 1; current stock and seller availability are not established here.
