Before you start

Set up a 24/7 stream using a cloud encoder
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a new stream or schedule one. Scheduling can help promote the event and let viewers set reminders.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key for the event. Enter them in the cloud service’s YouTube output settings, following that provider’s current instructions.
- Select RTMPS if the encoder supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the RTMP connection using TLS/SSL.
- Start the feed from the hosted encoder. Wait for the preview in YouTube Live Control Room and check the audio and video.
- Test the stream on the devices you expect viewers to use, and confirm that the watch page and event behave as expected before relying on the setup.
- Monitor the encoder’s health and YouTube’s preview during initial setup. To end the broadcast, stop the feed and end the YouTube stream using the provider and YouTube controls as appropriate.
Check bandwidth and reliability
YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the bitrate in use. Check outbound upload bandwidth, which may differ from download speed. This headroom is guidance, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming.
Test the feed before depending on it for a long broadcast. Confirm that the preview appears, audio and video play correctly, and the stream works on the intended viewing devices. A hosted encoder removes the need to keep your own computer running, but you should still monitor the service and the YouTube event for problems.

Stream keys and security
A stream key authenticates the feed sent to YouTube. Keep it private, avoid including it in screenshots or logs that others can see, and use YouTube’s reset workflow if you think it has been exposed. Select RTMPS when available for encrypted transmission.
Archives and long-running streams
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume this means a continuous 24/7 broadcast will be saved as one complete replay; the cited guidance does not establish the archive behavior for a longer event. If a complete replay matters, check YouTube’s current documentation and your event setup before streaming.
