This 2026 survey therefore presents 20 influential businesses, parent companies and product brands selected for their ecosystem role, project visibility, contribution activity or clearly attributed scale—not as a numbered league table.
The list also keeps WordPress.org, WordPress.com, Automattic and commercial WordPress businesses distinct. Several entries are brands or products owned by a larger company, so the survey contains 20 ecosystem names rather than 20 unrelated corporations.
How to read this list
Influence in WordPress can mean different things: operating infrastructure, providing a publishing or commerce layer, shaping site design, supplying plugins, building developer tools, or funding work around the open-source project. The evidence available for each company is not measured on one common scale.
- Project visibility: WordPress.org’s first-half 2026 Global Partner announcement identifies Jetpack, WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Bluehost and Hostinger. Partnership demonstrates event support and visibility, not a universal ranking.
- Contribution participation: The Five for the Future directory lists companies such as Kinsta, Awesome Motive, Hostinger, Elementor, 10up and SiteGround. Directory presence shows participation in that initiative, not commercial reach.
- Reported scale: Installation, download and customer numbers below are company-published figures. Different counts measure different things and should not be ranked against one another.
- Ownership: A product brand can be influential without being a separate company. The table identifies parent relationships where the evidence supports them.
The 20-name WordPress ecosystem survey
| # | Business, company or brand | Ecosystem layer | What the available evidence establishes | Relevant audience |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Automattic | Publishing, commerce, messaging, cloud, plugins and themes | Automattic’s portfolio spans several major WordPress-adjacent layers. Its April 2026 company article reports that WordPress powers approximately 43% of all websites and more than 60% of the known CMS market, plus more than 61,000 plugins in the official directory, more than 90,000 across official and premium sources, and more than 1,200 WooCommerce extensions. These are Automattic’s figures, not an independent market study. | Readers evaluating the breadth of the commercial WordPress ecosystem |
| 2 | WordPress.com | Hosted publishing | A hosted publishing service operated within Automattic’s portfolio and named as a first-half 2026 WordPress.org Global Partner. | People who want managed publishing rather than self-managed hosting |
| 3 | WooCommerce | Commerce software and extensions | WooCommerce describes itself as commerce software built on WordPress, launched in 2011 and acquired by Automattic in 2015. It is a commerce layer and extension ecosystem, not a hosting company. | Online merchants and developers building stores on WordPress |
| 4 | Jetpack | WordPress software | Jetpack is a WordPress-related software brand and one of the five Global Partners named for the first half of 2026. | Site owners considering a bundled WordPress services brand |
| 5 | Bluehost | Hosting | Bluehost is a hosting provider and a named first-half 2026 Global Partner. In January 2026, Bluehost reported that its parent, Newfold Digital, had entered a definitive agreement to acquire Yoast; that announcement alone does not prove the transaction closed. | New site owners comparing mainstream hosting providers |
| 6 | Hostinger | Hosting | Hostinger appears both among the first-half 2026 Global Partners and in the Five for the Future pledge directory. | Site owners looking for a hosting business with documented project participation |
| 7 | Kinsta | Hosting | Kinsta is listed in the Five for the Future pledge directory. The directory documents participation, not a comparative performance or market-share ranking. | Established publishers and teams assessing hosting-company involvement in WordPress |
| 8 | SiteGround | Hosting | SiteGround appears in the Five for the Future pledge directory, providing evidence of contribution participation. | Site owners weighing hosting options alongside ecosystem involvement |
| 9 | WP Engine | Hosting and developer tools | WP Engine company material describes hosting, commerce solutions, Local and Advanced Custom Fields. A 2025 company PDF reports 1.5 million customers in more than 150 countries; that figure may cover the broader company and product suite rather than one hosting plan. | Agencies, developers, commerce teams and larger WordPress operations |
| 10 | Elementor | Visual website builder | Elementor describes its product as a WordPress website builder and reports that it powers more than 22 million sites and 13% of the web. Those figures are Elementor’s own claims and are not independently audited in the available evidence. | Designers, freelancers and site owners who prefer visual building tools |
| 11 | Yoast | SEO plugin | Yoast’s company page reports more than 200 million downloads and over 25,000 five-star reviews. These are company-reported figures. Yoast is also relevant to the announced, but not yet proven closed, Newfold Digital acquisition. | Publishers and site owners working on search visibility |
| 12 | Awesome Motive | WordPress product company | Awesome Motive is listed in the Five for the Future directory. The directory names several of its brands, including WPForms, OptinMonster, MonsterInsights and AIOSEO. | Readers assessing a multi-product WordPress vendor |
| 13 | 10up | Agency and development services | 10up appears in the Five for the Future pledge directory, establishing its role as a participating agency/development company. | Organizations seeking WordPress engineering or agency work |
| 14 | WPForms | Plugin brand | WPForms is named in the Five for the Future directory as an Awesome Motive brand. The available evidence establishes the brand relationship, not an independently measured market ranking. | Teams evaluating products from the Awesome Motive portfolio |
| 15 | OptinMonster | Plugin brand | OptinMonster is listed as an Awesome Motive brand in the Five for the Future directory. | Site owners reviewing the same multi-product vendor ecosystem |
| 16 | MonsterInsights | Plugin brand | MonsterInsights is listed as an Awesome Motive brand in the Five for the Future directory. | Readers comparing WordPress brands under common ownership |
| 17 | AIOSEO | Plugin brand | AIOSEO is listed as an Awesome Motive brand in the Five for the Future directory. | Site owners evaluating SEO-related products within that portfolio |
| 18 | Local | Developer tool | Local is identified in WP Engine company material alongside its hosting and commerce offerings. | Developers and agencies working on local WordPress environments |
| 19 | Advanced Custom Fields | Developer tool | Advanced Custom Fields is identified in WP Engine company material as part of its product suite. | Developers building structured or customized WordPress sites |
| 20 | Newfold Digital | Hosting-company parent | Bluehost identified Newfold Digital as its parent in the January 2026 announcement about a definitive agreement to acquire Yoast. The cited announcement does not establish that the acquisition had completed. | Readers tracking ownership and consolidation among WordPress vendors |
What the project-affiliation evidence actually means
WordPress.org’s Global Partner and Five for the Future materials are useful signals, but they answer a narrow question: which organizations are visibly supporting or participating in project activities. They do not establish customer numbers, revenue, technical quality or an overall influence score.

#1 Best Overall
The WordPress project itself is open source and licensed under GPLv2 or later. WordPress.org is the project and community home; WordPress.com is a hosted service; Automattic is a commercial company with a broad portfolio. Treating those names as interchangeable obscures how the ecosystem works.
Scale figures that should not be mixed
- Automattic’s April 2026 article reports approximately 43% of all websites and more than 60% of the known CMS market for WordPress.
- The same Automattic article reports more than 61,000 plugins in the official directory, more than 90,000 when premium and independent sources are included, and more than 1,200 WooCommerce extensions.
- Elementor reports more than 22 million sites and 13% of the web.
- Yoast reports more than 200 million downloads and more than 25,000 five-star reviews.
- WP Engine’s 2025 company PDF reports 1.5 million customers across more than 150 countries for its broader company and suite.
These figures describe different units—websites, market share, plugins, extensions, downloads, reviews and customers—reported by different companies in different contexts. They cannot produce a defensible rank order by themselves.

How to use the list when choosing a WordPress business
Start with the ecosystem layer
Decide whether you need hosting, hosted publishing, commerce software, a visual builder, SEO functionality, a plugin portfolio, developer tooling or agency services. Comparing providers inside the same layer is more meaningful than comparing a hosting company with a design-builder brand.
Separate participation from product fit
A Global Partner listing or Five for the Future pledge can indicate visible support for the project. It does not guarantee speed, security, support quality, price, compatibility or customer satisfaction. Those questions require current, directly comparable evidence for your region, plan and WordPress version.
Rank #3
Check whether the name is a parent, brand or product
Automattic, Awesome Motive, WP Engine and Newfold Digital represent corporate or portfolio-level entities in this survey, while WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Jetpack, WPForms, OptinMonster, MonsterInsights, AIOSEO, Local and Advanced Custom Fields are brands or products. Ownership affects billing, support escalation, data policies and migration planning.
Read scale claims with their date and source
Company-reported numbers are useful context, especially when a provider discloses the date and unit being counted. They should not be presented as audited market share or used to infer that one company is universally “bigger” than another.

Bottom line
The most defensible way to discuss influential WordPress companies in 2026 is as an ecosystem map, not a ranked top 20. Hosting providers supply infrastructure, Automattic’s brands span multiple layers, WooCommerce anchors commerce, builders and SEO products shape everyday site creation, and agencies and developer tools support custom work. Use the role, ownership and evidence behind each name to narrow your choice rather than treating the list as a winner’s table.
