Rebel Galaxy Outlaw has mods for players who want different ships, less friction during travel and repairs, altered combat, or a refreshed cockpit display. The options below are a candidate list—not a tested ranking—and their availability and compatibility can change. Read the current instructions on each mod page before installing it.
Choose a mod by what you want to change
The community recommendations span several play styles. A new ship or weapon overhaul can change how a run feels; a HUD adjustment changes presentation; a dialogue or autopilot mod is aimed at convenience. The June 2024 Steam recommendation thread, edited in January 2026, names the following options and asks readers to consult each mod’s “About this mod” section for instructions.
Bundle several changes for a fresh playthrough
RGO Mega Mod Pack bundles multiple changes, making it a convenient starting point if you are beginning a new run and want a broader overhaul. Its author recommends playing on Veteran difficulty or below and avoiding additional mods to reduce conflict risk. The pack also includes options that some players may want to remove: its author says mouse-and-keyboard players should remove 88_DISABLE_MOUSE_INPUT.PAK, players finding combat too hard can remove 77_Rebalanced_Shield4.pak, and players who do not want unlocked cargo expansion can remove 99_Delete_Holdrestriction_v1.0.pak. Check each page for its current files and instructions. If you are using a ship mod, also consider whether another mod changes ship handling; the community warning about the turn-rate overhaul is especially relevant.
Change the ship display
For a presentation or cockpit-readability change rather than a new craft, the roundup names these ship-specific HUD options:

Confirm that a HUD file matches the ship and installation you plan to use before adding it.
Alter combat and handling
Projectile and Missile Weapons Overhaul changes weapon variety. Its author recommends Veteran difficulty in the community roundup’s description, so treat it as a combat change rather than a cosmetic tweak.
Player and AI Ship Turn Rate Overhaul changes handling for both the player and AI ships. The recommender warns against combining it with the five modded ships listed earlier in the thread and points to an optional file that rebalances those ships. That advice is specific to the files and recommendations discussed there; check the current mod page before mixing ship and handling changes.
Spend less time on travel and interruptions
- Additional Jump Gates is a travel-convenience option for moving between locations.
- No Autopilot Prompt Audio Spamming targets repeated autopilot prompt audio.
- Longer Time to Read Bartender Dialogue gives more time for dialogue pacing.
These are narrower changes than a ship or combat overhaul, but they may better suit a playthrough where you want to preserve the existing balance and ship setup.

Make repairs more convenient
Advanced Repair Droid is listed as a repair-convenience option. The roundup does not establish its exact repair behavior or balance effect, so read the current mod description before deciding whether it suits your setup.

What the mod catalog activity does—and does not—tell you
The Rebel Galaxy Outlaw Nexus Mods catalog shows activity around cargo, ships, weapons, repairs, and tractor beams. Its recent listings include items such as 50 Percent More Cargo, Flyable Kodiak, and Friend or Foe Missiles. This indicates that players continue to publish or update changes; it does not establish that every file works with every game installation, or that a particular mod is popular, stable, or compatible with another one. Check the individual page for the current file, requirements, and author guidance.

The pack’s instructions describe a manual file-copy approach. Follow the current page directions in case the archive or installation details have changed.
- Download and extract the pack as directed on its mod page. The archive contains multiple
.PAKfiles. - Copy the files you intend to use into the game’s
PAKSfolder, following the page’s instructions and any file-specific cautions. - Launch the game and check that your chosen setup behaves as expected before adding anything else. The pack author advises against extra mods to reduce conflicts.
- Before uninstalling, switch back to a vanilla ship if you are flying a modded ship. Then delete the pack’s mod files from the
PAKSfolder, as the author instructs.
For individual mods, do not assume this pack’s installation method applies: use the instructions on that mod’s own page.
Do you need a flight stick or special controls?
No special controller is required to install mods. Official support documentation says devices need XInput for detection and that DInput controllers or other devices may need software or firmware to be detected properly as XInput. It also recommends relative controls for some mouse-and-keyboard problems. A flight stick or gamepad is optional hardware, not a modding prerequisite. Read the official support guidance if a device is not detected correctly.
