There is no single “best” C++ web framework: the right choice depends on whether you need a REST API, a full-stack application, or a web interface built from widgets. This guide covers the ten projects named in the title’s original scope. The linked LinuxLinks list now contains eleven, adding Paozhu; it is noted separately below rather than silently treating that list as ten.
How to choose a C++ web framework
First match the framework’s programming model to the application. “C++ web framework” can mean anything from a small routing layer to a full-stack MVC framework or a library for building interactive web GUIs. Compare the exact release you plan to use, since capabilities, supported platforms, dependencies, and documentation can change.
- Workload: Decide whether you are building a REST API or microservice, a server-rendered application, a widget-based web UI, an IoT endpoint, or a WebSocket/streaming service.
- Programming model: Choose between minimal routing, MVC/full-stack structure, and GUI-style widgets based on how you want to build and maintain the application.
- Build fit: Check the required C++ standard, target operating systems, dependencies, and package availability for the particular version.
- Capabilities: Confirm the HTTP versions, WebSockets, JSON, templates, middleware, database support, TLS, and asynchronous APIs you actually need.
- Project risk: Inspect the current release history, documentation, security process, maintainer activity, and license terms. A project description is not a substitute for checking the license file and release you intend to adopt.
- Performance: Do not choose from unqualified “fast” claims. The available benchmark repository covers particular older versions and cases, not a current, apples-to-apples ranking of all ten. Benchmark your own workload and configuration if performance determines the choice: REST-CPP benchmark repository.
The ten frameworks
1. Drogon
Drogon is described as a fast, cross-platform web framework. The cppreference library catalog identifies it as a C++14/17 HTTP web application framework for Linux, macOS, Unix, and Windows. If those language and platform requirements match your project, compare its current application features, dependencies, and release documentation before settling on it. cppreference C++ library catalog
2. Oat++
Oat++ describes itself as lightweight and zero-dependency, and its official examples cover REST, WebSockets, databases, IoT, streaming, TLS, microservices, and asynchronous APIs. Its FAQ advises using the Simple API where possible and presents Async for selected high-concurrency tasks. Treat “zero-dependency” as a claim to verify against the exact version and build configuration rather than an assumption about every integration. Oat++ official repository
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Crow
Crow is a routing-oriented choice for HTTP and WebSocket services. Its documentation describes Flask-like routing, type-safe handlers, JSON, Mustache templates, middleware, HTTP/1.1, and multipart support. The repository text reviewed describes async support and HTTP/2 as in development, so check the documentation for the release you will use before making either a requirement. Crow also offers multiple package and download routes. Crow 1.2 documentation · Crow official repository
4. TreeFrog
TreeFrog is described as a high-speed, full-stack C++ framework, making it a candidate when a more integrated, MVC-oriented approach is preferable to assembling a small routing layer. The available comparison does not establish its current feature set, release activity, licensing details, or deployment model; validate those points in the project’s current documentation before adopting it. - What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
5. POCO
POCO appears in the comparison as a C++ library collection for building applications. That makes it important to check whether its web functionality offers the abstraction level your project needs, rather than assuming it behaves like a dedicated full-stack web framework. Compare its modules, dependencies, and integration requirements for your use case. LinuxLinks C++ web framework list
6. Wt
Wt is a modern C++ web GUI library, not simply a REST framework. The catalog describes capabilities including widgets, security, PDF rendering, painting, ORM, charting, and authentication frameworks. It lists GNU GPL or commercial licensing, so review the terms that apply to your intended use before choosing it. Wt is most relevant when you want to build an interactive, widget-oriented web application. cppreference C++ library catalog

7. Pistache
Pistache describes itself as a pure-C++17 HTTP and REST framework and lists Linux, macOS, Windows, and BSD support. Its repository identifies the license as Apache License 2.0 and notes that full API documentation is still being sought. It is worth considering when C++17 and its listed platform support fit, while accounting for the documentation gap during evaluation. Pistache official repository
8. Cutelyst
Cutelyst is described as a web framework built on Qt, with an approach inspired by Catalyst. Its Qt foundation and MVC-style approach are natural comparison points if your application already uses Qt or you prefer that development model. Verify the current project state, dependencies, and license in its own documentation. LinuxLinks C++ web framework list

9. CppCMS
Despite its name, CppCMS explicitly says it is not a content management system. Its official page describes it as a free, high-performance web development framework. If you are evaluating it, confirm the current version, deployment architecture, and license for your intended application rather than inferring them from the name or general description. CppCMS official project page
10. ffead-cpp
ffead-cpp is described as a web and application framework. The comparison available here does not establish which server or backend choices, protocols, or deployment options best fit a particular application, so investigate those details in the project’s current documentation before deciding. An additional option on the current list
The current LinuxLinks list includes Paozhu as an eleventh project and describes it as a full-stack C++ web framework. It is outside the ten-item scope above, but may merit evaluation if you are comparing full-stack candidates. LinuxLinks C++ web framework list
What to verify before adopting one
The published descriptions establish useful differences in scope, but not every candidate’s current C++ baseline, dependency list, maintenance activity, security handling, or license nuances. Check the project’s own current release notes, build instructions, and license file for the version you plan to deploy. For performance-sensitive services, measure representative requests and configurations yourself; the available benchmark material does not justify a universal winner.
