The Zyxel NR5101 is a 5G indoor router with Wi‑Fi 6, wired networking and bridge or router modes. Zyxel advertises a maximum downlink rate of up to 5 Gbps, but that is a manufacturer specification—not a measured speed or a guarantee of what you will get at home. The available evidence also does not establish a current street price, so whether it is competitively priced depends on the exact listing and alternatives when you buy.
What the Zyxel NR5101 offers
Zyxel describes the NR5101 as a 5G NR indoor router. Its listed features include AX1800-class Wi‑Fi 6, support for up to 64 wireless devices, USB 2.0, Ethernet networking, and router and bridge modes. Zyxel also specifies six built-in 5G/LTE/3G antennas and a theoretical downlink maximum of up to 5 Gbps. These are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. Zyxel NR5101 product page
The feature set suggests a device intended to bring a cellular connection into a home or small office, while still allowing wired equipment or an existing router to be part of the network. It does not establish how fast or stable the connection will be at a particular address.
What to expect from speed and coverage
NR5101 performance depends on the cellular service available where you install it, the network and signal conditions, and the service arrangement. The 5 Gbps figure is Zyxel’s advertised maximum, not a typical-speed estimate. The available product information does not provide independent speed or reliability testing, nor does it establish coverage or compatibility with a particular plan.

Before buying, confirm that the service you intend to use supports the device and that its coverage is suitable at the installation address. If comparing it with another 5G router, compare results measured under similar network and signal conditions rather than treating advertised peak rates as directly comparable real-world outcomes.

Wi-Fi and connected devices
Zyxel lists AX1800 Wi‑Fi 6 and support for up to 64 wireless devices. Those specifications describe the wireless class and stated device capacity; they do not guarantee a particular Wi‑Fi range, speed for each device, or performance when many devices are active.

Router and bridge modes
The NR5101 supports router and bridge modes. Zyxel support material also describes cellular IP passthrough, or Dynamic passthrough, as a way to forward traffic to a router connected behind the NR5101. Because the precise setting path can vary by firmware, use the guide for the exact model and version rather than relying on a generic menu path. Ports and accessories
Zyxel lists USB 2.0 and Ethernet functions. An external antenna may be of interest if you are trying to improve reception, but the available information does not establish a compatible antenna model, connector or band fit, or an official purchase recommendation. Confirm compatibility for the specific unit before buying an antenna.

Can you use Nebula with an NR5101?
Do not assume every device labeled NR5101 has the same cloud-management features. Zyxel’s UK download library lists separate entries for “NR5101” and “Nebula NR5101,” indicating that the model and Nebula variant have distinct documentation and firmware listings. Check the exact unit’s label and firmware before relying on a particular management feature. Zyxel UK download library
Zyxel describes mobile-app and web-GUI management for the NR5101, including its free Zyxel Air app. Those statements should not be assumed to apply identically to carrier-branded devices; check the features available on the particular unit you are considering. Zyxel NR5101 product page

Firmware, documentation and VoLTE limitation
Zyxel’s UK library lists the NR5101 User’s Guide Version 4.40 Ed 4, dated July 6, 2023. It separately lists a Nebula NR5101 User’s Guide V1.71_Ed1, dated August 28, 2026, and firmware 1.16(ACCG.1)C0, dated November 25, 2024, alongside earlier releases. These are dates for entries in that library; they do not establish what is installed on every regional or carrier-branded device. Zyxel says NR-series updates can address known issues and vulnerabilities as well as problems involving signal quality, stability, crashes, unexpected restarts, SIM detection and provider settings. Its guidance also cautions that fixes may not apply uniformly across models and firmware versions. Check the model-specific documentation before updating.

There is an important voice-service caveat: Zyxel Support Campus EMEA states, “Due to the complexity of VoLTE configurations, Zyxel firmware does not support VoLTE.” This statement applies to Zyxel firmware as described in that support article; it should not be broadened into a claim about every carrier-modified device or configuration. If VoLTE matters to your use, verify support for the exact unit and service before buying. Zyxel NR Series Advanced Downloads
Is the NR5101 competitively priced?
There is not enough price evidence to call the NR5101 competitively priced today. Zyxel’s product and support pages confirm specifications and documentation, but they do not establish a current retailer price or a comparison with competing routers. Check the current price of the exact variant and seller, then compare it with alternatives that support your local cellular service and have similar networking features. Also account for the cost of the mobile data service needed to use a cellular router.
When reviewing a listing, confirm the precise model or Nebula variant, the seller, compatibility with the service you plan to use, and the price at the time of purchase. An official product page confirms that the device exists; it does not confirm availability or price at any particular retailer.
Who should consider the Zyxel NR5101?
The NR5101 is worth considering if you want an indoor 5G router with Wi‑Fi 6, wired networking, and the option to operate in router or bridge mode. Whether it is a good choice for you depends on local cellular service, the exact device variant and firmware, any VoLTE requirement, and its current price. The available information does not establish real-world performance or value against competing models.
