Zurich Insurance Group said it completed its acquisition of Beazley plc on October 2, 2026, and will integrate Beazley into Zurich Global Specialty. Zurich says the combined business will be headquartered in London and calls it the world’s largest specialty insurance business. Zurich also announced Kristof Terryn as CEO of Beazley and Zurich Global Specialty, subject to regulatory approval.

What changes with Beazley joining Zurich?

Zurich says Beazley will be integrated into its Global Specialty business, with the combined operation based in London. Zurich Group CEO Mario Greco said the integration is intended to accelerate growth and bring new solutions to existing clients. He also said Beazley underwriters would gain access to Zurich’s distribution model and join its customer service teams. Those are Zurich’s stated plans and rationale, not evidence that the expected benefits have already been delivered. Zurich’s completion announcement

Zurich’s description of the combined operation as the “world’s largest” specialty insurance business is the company’s characterization; an independent ranking is not cited in the announcement.

Who will lead the combined specialty business?

Zurich announced Kristof Terryn as CEO of both Beazley and Zurich Global Specialty following completion of the acquisition. The announcement makes the appointment subject to regulatory approval; it should not be treated as unconditionally effective unless that approval is confirmed. Zurich also announced these other senior roles:

#1 Best Overall
  • Helen Pickford: CFO of Beazley and Zurich Global Specialty. She was Zurich UK CFO.
  • Sally Henderson: Chief People & Sustainability Officer, succeeding Liz Ashford, who Zurich said had decided to retire.
  • Ed Bridge: General Counsel of Beazley and Zurich Global Specialty. He was previously Zurich UK and Ireland General Counsel.
  • Barbara Plucnar Jensen: Senior Advisor supporting integration until March 2027; she was Beazley Group CFO.

How large is the combined specialty business?

Zurich’s scale figures use different reporting dates and bases, so they should not be read as directly comparable current totals.

Measure Figure Basis and date
Combined specialty gross written premiums Approximately USD 15 billion Pro forma figure as at December 31, 2024, reported by Zurich in its March 2, 2026 recommended-offer announcement.
Zurich Specialty gross written premiums Approximately USD 9 billion Zurich Specialty business figure as at December 31, 2025, reported in the same announcement.

Gross written premiums measure premiums written before deductions such as reinsurance. The USD 15 billion figure is a pro forma combined-business measure dated a year earlier than Zurich’s USD 9 billion Specialty figure. Zurich’s March 2, 2026 recommended-offer announcement

What financial benefits does Zurich expect?

Zurich’s October 2 completion announcement sets out targets, not results already achieved:

  • At least USD 150 million in combined annual cost savings by 2029.

The company presents these as expected benefits of the transaction and integration. Zurich’s completion announcement

Will Beazley customers and brokers use the same channels?

Zurich’s acquisition information page says Beazley continues to serve customers and broker partners through its established channels and websites. It does not set out whether policy terms, claims contacts or service arrangements will change for particular products or markets.
