On January 15, 2025, HotHardware reported that Zotac’s GeForce RTX 5090 AMP Extreme INFINITY had a 600W TDP. The outlet called it the first RTX 5090 model to reach that figure “that we’re aware of”—a qualified, historical report about one partner card, not a claim that NVIDIA changed the power specification for every RTX 5090. NVIDIA’s current reference specification is 575W total graphics power.
What the January 2025 report said
HotHardware’s January 15, 2025 article said Zotac had confirmed specifications for its overclocked GeForce RTX 5090 AMP Extreme INFINITY and reported a 600W TDP. Its “first” wording was explicitly limited to the first such model “that we’re aware of.” That qualification matters: the report does not establish an unqualified industry-first claim. Read HotHardware’s report.
The 600W figure refers to the reported Zotac partner model. It is not NVIDIA’s specification for the reference RTX 5090, and it should not be taken as confirmation that the Zotac card ships with a 600W default power limit. HotHardware speculated that 575W might be the card’s stock TDP, with a higher-power mode or dual BIOS enabling greater consumption; the article presented that as speculation, not verified Zotac guidance.

NVIDIA’s current reference RTX 5090 page lists 575W total graphics power. That is 25W below the 600W reported for the Zotac AMP Extreme INFINITY. NVIDIA also cautions that add-in-card specifications can vary by manufacturer, so a partner model’s power rating may differ from the reference figure. See NVIDIA’s RTX 5090 specifications.

The NVIDIA page describes the reference GPU as based on Blackwell and lists support for DLSS 4, including Multi Frame Generation. Its performance claims are NVIDIA’s own product positioning, not independent test results for this Zotac model.
What the power figures mean for a PC build
NVIDIA lists 1,000W as the required system power for its reference RTX 5090, based on a system configured with a Ryzen 9 9950X. NVIDIA says requirements can vary with system configuration. It lists four PCIe 8-pin cables used with the in-box adapter, or one 600W PCIe Gen 5 cable, for the reference card.

Those reference-card instructions do not establish the exact PSU or cabling requirements for the Zotac AMP Extreme INFINITY. Before choosing a power supply or cable, check the documentation for the exact graphics card and PSU combination rather than applying NVIDIA’s reference guidance automatically.
What remains unconfirmed about the Zotac card
The cited report gives a historical 600W figure, but it does not verify the card’s shipping default, how any higher-power mode is enabled, or whether a particular BIOS supports it. A Zotac product-page confirmation and current retail price or availability were not verified. Do not infer that a higher power limit guarantees proportionally higher gaming or creator performance; the cited sources provide no independent Zotac benchmarks or comparative measurements.
