Een bèta-update uitzetten verwijdert de bèta die al op je apparaat staat niet. Op een iPhone of iPad kun je toekomstige bèta-updates uitschakelen via Instellingen; wil je direct terug naar de actuele publieke versie, dan schrijft Apple wissen en herstellen voor. Dat wist het apparaat. Voor Mac bevestigt Apple hoe je toekomstige bèta-updates stopt, maar niet een volledige downgradeprocedure. Voor Apple TV en Apple Watch zijn hier geen bevestigde stappen beschikbaar.
Bèta-updates stoppen of de bèta verwijderen?
Dat zijn verschillende doelen. Uitschakelen voorkomt dat je nieuwe bèta-updates ontvangt, maar zet de huidige installatie niet terug. Voor iPhone en iPad beschrijft Apple wissen en herstellen als de route om een geïnstalleerde bèta te verwijderen en de actuele publieke versie te installeren. Een back-up die tijdens een bèta is gemaakt, werkt mogelijk niet met een oudere publieke versie.

Hoe zet je bèta-updates uit op iPhone of iPad?
De instelling hangt af van de geïnstalleerde iOS- of iPadOS-versie. Volg de route die bij jouw versie hoort:

Apple beschrijft beide routes op de pagina iOS- of iPadOS-bètasoftware verwijderen. Heb je de bèta met een computer geïnstalleerd, dan zegt Apple dat je iOS of iPadOS moet herstellen om de bèta te verwijderen.

Hoe installeer je direct de publieke iOS- of iPadOS-versie?
Apple schrijft voor deze overstap wissen en herstellen voor. Herstellen wist het apparaat. Gebruik een bijgewerkte Mac of de Apple Devices-app op een pc en volg deze stappen:
- Controleer vóór je begint of je een back-up hebt die geschikt is voor de publieke versie waarnaar je teruggaat. Lees de waarschuwing over back-ups hieronder.
- Sluit de iPhone of iPad aan op de computer.
- Zet het apparaat in de herstelmodus. De knoppencombinatie verschilt per model; volg de modelgebonden instructies van Apple.
- Kies Herstel op de computer en volg de aanwijzingen om de publieke software te installeren.
Apple geeft deze herstelroute en de waarschuwing over gegevens en back-ups op de pagina iOS- of iPadOS-bètasoftware verwijderen. De stappen zijn bedoeld voor iPhone en iPad; gebruik ze niet als instructies voor Apple TV, Apple Watch of Mac.

Kan een bèta-back-up worden teruggezet op de publieke versie?
Niet altijd. Apple waarschuwt dat een back-up die tijdens bèta-software is gemaakt mogelijk niet compatibel is met een oudere publieke versie. Controleer dus vóór het wissen of je een oudere of gearchiveerde back-up hebt die past bij de versie waarop je terugkeert. Als je die niet hebt, kan herstel van je gegevens na het wissen beperkt zijn.

Hoe stop je bèta-updates op een Mac?
Apple bevestigt dat je een Mac kunt uitschrijven uit het bètaprogramma om geen toekomstige bèta-updates meer te ontvangen. Die uitschrijving draait de bèta die al is geïnstalleerd niet terug. De Apple-handleiding voor Feedback Assistant beschrijft uitschrijven, maar geeft geen volledige actuele procedure om macOS te downgraden en geen onderbouwde herstelroute voor iedere Mac of macOS-versie. Controleer daarom de officiële Apple-instructies voor jouw Mac en versie voordat je een downgrade probeert.

Wat doe je met een Apple TV of Apple Watch?
De bevestigde instructies hierboven gelden niet voor tvOS of watchOS. Er is hier geen voldoende specifieke officiële Apple-procedure vastgesteld om bèta-updates uit te zetten of de geïnstalleerde bèta te verwijderen op Apple TV of Apple Watch. Raadpleeg de actuele Apple Support-instructies voor het exacte model en de softwareversie voordat je iets wist of herstelt; neem de iPhone- en iPad-stappen niet over.

Wat als herstellen een fout geeft?
Als je tijdens een update of herstel een foutmelding krijgt, noemt Apple het proberen van een andere USB-kabel als mogelijke probleemoplossing. Dat is een stap bij een fout, geen vereiste voor iedereen. Raadpleeg ook Apples overige foutoplossing voor problemen bij het bijwerken of herstellen van iPhone, iPad of iPod.
