Zlatan Ibrahimović reportedly picked Manchester City to win the Premier League when ESPN FC asked him to predict the champion, leaving Arsenal out of his answer. The report describes it as a snub because Arsenal had just won the 2025/26 title. It is Ibrahimović’s reported opinion—not evidence of who will win in 2026/27.
Who did Ibrahimović pick to win the Premier League?
In a 3 October 2026 report, Arsenal Insider says ESPN FC asked Ibrahimović to name the Premier League winner and that he answered “City.” The surrounding context indicates he meant Manchester City. Arsenal Insider’s report is the source for the exchange; its article was not directly accessible, so the answer is attributed to the report rather than presented as a verified transcript or recording.
Why is the prediction being called a snub?
Arsenal were the reigning champions when the prediction was reported. The Premier League confirmed that Arsenal won the 2025/26 title, ending a 22-year wait, while Manchester City finished second. The league’s 14 May 2026 explainer reported Arsenal on 82 points and City on 78 before the final day; those are that season’s figures, not the 2026/27 table. It does not establish that Ibrahimović criticized Arsenal or gave a reason for choosing City.

Did Ibrahimović give a reason for choosing City?
The available report extract provides no substantive explanation. Apex Football reproduces the City answer and says Ibrahimović also selected Chelsea for the FA Cup, but it is repeating the same story rather than independently verifying the interview. Apex Football’s reproduction
No independently verified full statement or ESPN FC transcript is available in these reports. The attributed one-word answer is “City”; adding a rationale would go beyond what they establish.

Does the pick predict the 2026/27 champion?
No. It is a reported prediction, not a result or proof of future performance. The official league information here confirms only the completed 2025/26 title race; it does not establish 2026/27 standings, form, odds, or title probabilities. Ibrahimović’s choice should therefore be read as an opinion, separate from Arsenal’s previous-season championship.
