Short answer: Zhaoxin’s labels do not describe one neat three-chip generation. KX-7000 is the company’s current mainstream client family, released in Q4 2023. KH-40000 is the preceding server generation, released in Q4 2022. KH-50000 is the clearly documented successor, with up to 96 cores, DDR5, PCIe 5.0/ZPI and chiplet construction. ZX-F is not currently verifiable as a shipping Zhaoxin product family; it is safer to treat it as historical or third-party roadmap terminology unless a primary source proves otherwise.

The roadmap in one view

Zhaoxin designs x86-compatible processors for Chinese client, embedded and server markets. Its two principal brands are KaiXian (开先) for desktop, notebook, workstation, embedded and other client systems, and Kaisheng (开胜) for servers. The current official catalogue lists KX-7000, KX-6900, KX-6000, KH-40000 and KH-50000, but no current family named ZX-F: Zhaoxin product catalogue.

Product Market Architecture label Official release listing Maximum listed configuration
KX-6000 Client/embedded Lujiazui Q2 2019 8/4 cores, 3.0 GHz
KX-6000G Client/embedded Lujiazui Q4 2022 4 cores, 3.3 GHz
KX-7000 Client/desktop Century Avenue Q4 2023 8 cores, 3.7 GHz
KX-6900 Client/embedded Lujiazui Q1 2025 8/4 cores, 2.8 GHz
KH-40000 Server Yongfeng Q4 2022 32/16/12 cores, 2.5 GHz
KH-50000 Server Century Avenue Q3 2025 96/72/64/48 cores, up to 3.0 GHz

These are product-family and architecture labels, not interchangeable names. A codename or roadmap reference should not be treated as a retail model without a corresponding product page, system listing or other primary evidence.

What “ZX-F” means—and what it does not prove

ZX-F appears in historical or third-party roadmap discussions, but its exact identity is unresolved. It may have referred to an architecture, an engineering generation, an embedded/client variant, or a provisional name later commercialized under another brand. The available official catalogue does not establish a shipping product family called ZX-F.

  • Built for the Next Generation of Gaming. Game and multitask without compromise powered by Intel’s performance hybrid architecture on an unlocked processor.
  • Discrete graphics required
  • Compatible with Intel 600 series and 700 series chipset-based motherboards
  • The processor features Socket LGA-1700 socket for installation on the PCB
  • 30 MB of L3 cache memory provides excellent hit rate in short access time enabling improved system performance
  • There is no current official catalogue entry for a ZX-F family.
  • The catalogue lists KX-7000 and KH-40000 as separate client and server families.
  • There is no primary evidence here that ZX-F is synonymous with KX-7000.

The defensible description is therefore “unverified or historical roadmap terminology”, not a confirmed third current line. Claims that ZX-F was definitely the KX-7000 architecture require a dated Zhaoxin roadmap, conference document or engineering sample record.

KX-7000: Zhaoxin’s mainstream client platform

Official position

Zhaoxin identifies KX-7000 with its Century Avenue architecture and lists a Q4 2023 release. The family reaches eight cores and a maximum listed frequency of 3.7 GHz. Platform materials describe DDR5 memory support and PCIe 4.0 capability, although the exact implementation depends on the processor and motherboard.

Its intended systems include government and office desktops, notebooks, all-in-ones, embedded computers and specialized domestic client platforms. The practical buying unit is usually a complete OEM system rather than a freely interchangeable retail CPU and motherboard combination. Support materials are collected by Zhaoxin at its client-download page.

What independent testing found

PC Watch tested a KX-7000/8 at 3.6 GHz with eight cores and eight threads under Windows 11 Pro 23H2, using Zhaoxin universal driver version 30.00.23.05-43.00.05. Comparisons included Intel Core i3-8100 and AMD Ryzen 5 5600G: PC Watch test report.

  • Help your computer think and work faster
  • Provides the instructions and processing power the computer needs to do its work
  • The more powerful and updated your processor, the faster your computer can complete its tasks
  • Single-thread performance was below the Core i3-8100.
  • Eight cores helped it approach or exceed the older i3 in some multithreaded workloads.
  • It remained substantially behind Ryzen 5 5600G in several measurements.
  • The integrated graphics solution, identified in the test system as ZX-C1190, was particularly weak.
  • Office, web and ordinary desktop work were practical; modern gaming and enthusiast workloads were not its strength.
  • PCIe 4.0 support did not guarantee consistently strong storage results in the tested platform.

A discrete graphics card can address the integrated-GPU limitation, but it does not remove the CPU’s single-thread gap. “Zen 2-level” or “competitive” should therefore be tied to a named workload and comparison chip, not used as a general performance ranking.

KH-40000: the Yongfeng server generation

KH-40000 is a server family based on the Yongfeng microarchitecture, officially listed for Q4 2022. Zhaoxin specifies up to 32 cores, 64 MB cache, eight-channel DDR4 memory, up to 128 PCIe lanes and ZPI 3.0 interconnect. Its server page is available from Zhaoxin.

  • Target workloads: cloud computing, databases, big-data analysis, video processing, storage and hyperconverged infrastructure.
  • Scaling: Zhaoxin describes systems of up to 64 cores, implying a two-socket configuration in the cited material.
  • Platform functions: secure boot, Chinese cryptographic algorithms, trusted-computing support, BMC management and server RAS features.
  • Interpretation: the 128-lane figure is processor capability; the actual number and generation of usable slots depend on the motherboard and complete server design.

There is limited independently measured KH-40000 workload data in the public record cited here. CPU specifications should not be substituted for application benchmarks, power measurements or virtualization results.

KH-50000 is the documented step beyond

KH-50000 is the most consequential successor to KH-40000. Zhaoxin lists a Q3 2025 release and a chiplet-based design supporting two- and four-socket systems: official KH-50000 specifications.

DDR5 increases available memory bandwidth, PCIe 5.0 expands accelerator and storage headroom, and the larger cache and core-count ceiling improve the platform’s ability to consolidate workloads. Four-socket support also changes the class of system Zhaoxin can address.

None of those numbers establishes parity with AMD EPYC or Intel Xeon. Publicly insufficient data still includes IPC, sustained all-core speed, power efficiency, independent memory-bandwidth tests, virtualization overhead, compiler maturity, OEM availability and total cost of ownership.

KX-7000N and the AI-PC direction

WAIC 2025 reporting described the KX-7000N as a client processor with an integrated NPU for local AI workloads: Notebookcheck’s report.

This is a public presentation, not a complete shipping specification. Final clock speeds, NPU throughput, supported software stack, production status, launch timing and broad retail availability require separate confirmation. No finalized TOPS figure, process node, price or benchmark parity with Ryzen AI, Core Ultra or Snapdragon X is established by the cited material.

Software compatibility is more than “it runs x86”

x86 compatibility is valuable because it preserves a path for Windows, Linux, enterprise applications and legacy software. It does not guarantee a finished platform. Buyers should verify:

  • Application and plugin certification, including macros and security modules.
  • Graphics, chipset, storage, network and peripheral drivers.
  • Sleep/resume, display-output and video-codec behavior.
  • Virtualization support and measured overhead.
  • BIOS, firmware, BMC and server-management updates.
  • Certification for the specific domestic Linux distribution or Windows image.
  • OEM warranty, lifecycle and replacement-board support.

The KX-7000 test’s driver-specific graphics and benchmark issues illustrate why platform software is part of the product. A machine that boots a commercial operating system is not automatically certified for every workload or peripheral.

Why Zhaoxin matters despite the performance gap

Zhaoxin’s importance is not measured only by enthusiast benchmark charts. Chinese government, finance, education and industrial buyers may prioritize domestic procurement rules, local support, supply-chain control, security requirements and long lifecycle commitments. Zhaoxin reported that 170,000 KX-7000-equipped terminals were selected for a large state-owned-bank counter-terminal project in 2025. That demonstrates institutional procurement traction, not consumer-market dominance: Zhaoxin announcement.

Complete Chinese OEM systems may therefore be a more realistic purchase route than an imported do-it-yourself CPU upgrade. An example is Haier’s commercial notebook listing for a Zhaoxin KX-7000 system: Haier product page.

How to evaluate a Zhaoxin system

  1. Define the workload: separate office responsiveness, compilation, rendering, databases, virtualization, gaming and AI inference.
  2. Check the exact SKU: “96 cores” applies to a top KH-50000 configuration, not every model.
  3. Verify the whole platform: motherboard, memory channels, PCIe slots, firmware, cooling and BMC matter as much as the CPU.
  4. Run the required software: test production documents, plugins, drivers, security tools and peripherals on the intended OS image.
  5. Demand measured evidence: request workload benchmarks, power data and virtualization results rather than relying on core count or interface claims.
  6. Confirm support: establish who supplies BIOS updates, replacement parts and security fixes for the deployment’s lifetime.

What remains unknown

  • ZX-F’s exact identity and whether any production chip used that name.
  • Independent KH-50000 benchmarks, power efficiency and sustained all-core behavior.
  • KX-7000N’s final NPU specification, software ecosystem and production availability.
  • Confirmed manufacturing nodes for each family; the cited official pages do not establish one for every product.
  • International retail availability, standardized pricing and global warranty coverage.
  • Long-term driver, firmware and application support across non-Chinese OEM configurations.

Company filings indicate increased KX-7000 sales, earlier KH-40000 price adjustments and small-batch KH-50000 sales, but they do not provide dependable consumer street prices: regulatory filing.

Assessment

Zhaoxin is making real architectural and platform progress. KX-7000 provides x86 continuity for domestic client systems, but independent testing places it well behind current mainstream AMD and Intel processors, especially in single-thread performance and integrated graphics. KH-40000 established a DDR4-era server platform; KH-50000 is the substantial documented advance, with 96-core configurations, DDR5 ECC, PCIe 5.0/ZPI, chiplets and four-socket scaling.

The near-term test of Zhaoxin is not whether one specification sheet defeats EPYC or Xeon. It is whether the company can deliver reliable, supported and scalable systems for China’s institutional and industrial workloads while improving software, efficiency and independent performance evidence.
