Page 26 of the AnandTech Forums’ Renoir discussion is a historical snapshot from October–December 2020 and April 2021. Its posts cover integrated-graphics memory behavior, desktop availability, BIOS support and gaming expectations. The reliable product baseline is AMD’s Zen 2 Ryzen 4000G/GE desktop APUs and the separate Ryzen Embedded V2000 family; forum anecdotes should not be treated as current availability data, universal compatibility advice or controlled benchmarks.
What “Renoir” means here
In this thread, “Renoir” refers to AMD’s Zen 2 generation of processors with integrated Radeon graphics. AMD identifies the Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G as a Zen 2 Renoir desktop processor using the AM4 socket and TSMC’s 7 nm process. The desktop Ryzen 4000G family was announced in 2020, while Ryzen Embedded V2000 is a different embedded-system product line.
Desktop Ryzen 4000G and GE models
AMD’s July 2020 announcement grouped the desktop parts into 8-core, 6-core and 4-core tiers. The following figures are AMD-published specifications; “up to” boost clocks are maximum ratings, not guaranteed all-core operating speeds.
| Model | Cores/threads | Rated TDP | Base clock | Up-to boost | Graphics cores | Cache |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryzen 7 4700G | 8/16 | 65 W | 3.6 GHz | 4.4 GHz | 8 | 12 MB |
| Ryzen 5 4600G | 6/12 | 65 W | 3.7 GHz | 4.2 GHz | 7 | 11 MB |
| Ryzen 3 4300G | 4/8 | 65 W | 3.8 GHz | 4.0 GHz | 6 | 6 MB |
Each tier also had a GE variant, and AMD listed PRO counterparts—the Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G/GE, Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G/GE and Ryzen 3 PRO 4350G/GE. The launch announcement’s statement that the 4700G delivered “up to 2.5X” the previous generation’s multithreaded performance is AMD’s own marketing comparison, not an independently verified result here.

Why memory dominates integrated-graphics discussion
Renoir’s integrated GPU uses system memory rather than dedicated VRAM. Page 26 participants compare DDR4-3200, DDR4-3600 and DDR4-4000, discuss AIDA64 results and ask whether dual-rank DIMMs improve graphics performance. Those are user observations and questions, not a controlled test establishing a universal best speed or a guaranteed frame-rate increase.
For a meaningful comparison, record the complete configuration: memory frequency and timings, capacity, one or two populated channels, rank arrangement, BIOS version, processor model and the game’s resolution and settings. AMD specifies dual-channel DDR4 up to 3200 MT/s for the Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G; a motherboard may impose a lower limit, and higher memory settings can depend on the integrated memory controller, DIMM kit and firmware.
Rank #2

Practical buying implication
A matched dual-channel DDR4 kit is the sensible baseline for a Renoir APU. Do not assume that moving beyond DDR4-3600—or changing from single-rank to dual-rank memory—will produce a fixed uplift in every game. Stability, capacity and the board’s validated memory list matter as much as headline frequency.
Gaming expectations in the thread
One participant argued that APUs should be tested at lower resolutions and practical quality settings rather than only at demanding desktop-GPU presets. That is a reasonable testing perspective, but it is the poster’s view, not a universal benchmark rule. The page does not provide a reproducible test method that supports definitive frame-rate claims.
Rank #3
- The fastest cores in the world for PC gamers
- A fast and easy way to expand and accelerate the storage in a desktop PC with an AMD Ryzen processor
- For the best possible VR experiences, AMD offers select Ryzen VR-Ready Premium processors
- Unlocked for Overclocking: Yes
Renoir gaming results will vary with the APU model, memory configuration, dual-channel operation, BIOS, drivers, resolution and in-game settings. Treat forum numbers as dated experiences unless the complete test setup and repeatable methodology are supplied.
Desktop availability: a historical snapshot
In November 2020, participants asked whether the desktop parts would reach retail. Later posts mentioned OEM systems and retail sightings in particular countries. These reports describe what users saw at the time; they do not establish current stock, pricing or worldwide retail availability. Current offers and value comparisons require live retailer and manufacturer information.
Rank #4
- Pure gaming performance with smooth 100+ FPS in the world's most popular games
- 6 Cores and 12 processing threads, based on AMD "Zen 5" architecture
- 5.4 GHz Max Boost, unlocked for overclocking, 38 MB cache, DDR5-5600 support
- For the state-of-the-art Socket AM5 platform, can support PCIe 5.0 on select motherboards
- Cooler not included
Renoir BIOS and AM4 compatibility
AM4 socket support alone does not prove that a motherboard will boot a Renoir processor. Page 26 includes model-specific reports about BIOS versions on particular B450 boards, but those reports are dated and cannot replace the board maker’s documentation.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Identify the exact motherboard model and hardware revision.
- Open the manufacturer’s current CPU-support list.
- Find the precise Renoir model, including whether it is a PRO part.
- Read the required BIOS version and update notes.
- Confirm how the update can be performed if the existing CPU cannot boot the newer BIOS.
- Check memory support and the board’s validated DIMM list before selecting a kit.
Follow the vendor’s current instructions rather than assuming that another B450 board, an earlier BIOS report or the AM4 label guarantees compatibility.

Ryzen Embedded V2000 is a different platform
Ryzen Embedded V2000 uses Zen 2 cores and 7 nm technology with Radeon graphics in an SoC design, but it is intended for embedded applications such as thin clients, mini PCs, edge systems and automotive equipment. It is not simply another desktop AM4 processor.
| Characteristic | Desktop Ryzen 4000G/GE | Ryzen Embedded V2000 |
|---|---|---|
| Primary market | Consumer, commercial and OEM desktop systems | Embedded systems and specialized platforms |
| Package/platform | Desktop AM4 ecosystem | Embedded SoC platform; not a drop-in AM4 upgrade |
| Power envelope | Model-specific desktop TDPs such as 65 W for the listed G models | Model-dependent ranges of 10–25 W or 35–54 W |
| CPU scale | Up to 8 cores/16 threads in the listed family | Up to 8 cores/16 threads |
| Display capability | Depends on the desktop board and firmware implementation | Up to four simultaneous displays in AMD’s brief |
| I/O | Desktop motherboard implementation | Up to 20 PCIe Gen 3 lanes in AMD’s brief |
Embedded selection also involves product lifecycle, board design, thermal targets, display outputs and deployment support—not just core count or graphics branding.
How to read Page 26 today
- Use AMD’s specifications for model names, core counts, clocks, graphics-core counts, TDP and supported memory.
- Use the forum posts as historical evidence of what enthusiasts were investigating in late 2020 and early 2021.
- Do not convert participant benchmarks into universal performance guarantees.
- Do not use old availability posts as current stock or pricing information.
- Verify BIOS support with the exact motherboard manufacturer and model.
- Keep embedded V2000 systems separate from desktop AM4 upgrade decisions.
Bottom line
Renoir desktop APUs combine Zen 2 CPU cores with memory-dependent Radeon graphics, making dual-channel configuration and realistic settings central to any evaluation. AMD’s published specifications establish the product tiers and platform limits; Page 26 adds useful historical questions about memory, gaming, retail access and BIOS support, but it cannot settle modern compatibility, pricing or performance on its own.
