Choose YouTube TV if you want a lower-priced live-TV plan and its three simultaneous streams and local channel lineup fit your household. Choose Hulu + Live TV if you’ll use the included Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN content enough to justify its higher monthly price—and can work within its two-screen live-TV limit. Neither service is the right choice for everyone: check your ZIP-code lineup, must-have networks, and viewing habits before subscribing.
Prices and features below reflect the services’ official U.S. product pages as checked October 4, 2026. They are advertised details, not independent tests, and can change.
How the plans compare
Both services advertise more than 100 live channels and unlimited cloud DVR. Their biggest differences are recurring price, bundled on-demand services, and the number of people who can watch live TV at once.

The prices are the standard amounts displayed on October 4, 2026, rather than a like-for-like cost of every service in each bundle. Hulu displayed a first-month promotion with terms and eligibility restrictions. YouTube TV’s page also showed an introductory offer that was stated to end August 26, 2026, so it is not presented here as an available deal.

When YouTube TV is the better fit
YouTube TV is the more straightforward option if your priority is live television at the lower displayed monthly plan price and you don’t need Hulu’s included streaming libraries. Its stated allowance of three simultaneous streams may also suit a household where more than two people regularly watch live TV at the same time. Six household accounts can give members separate accounts and DVR libraries.
- Choose it when its local stations and essential cable networks are available where you live.
- Its three simultaneous streams are a better match than Hulu’s two-screen live-TV limit if your household often watches different live programs at once.
- It may make less sense if you would otherwise pay separately for Hulu, Disney+, or ESPN content and expect to use those services regularly.
When Hulu + Live TV is the better fit
Hulu + Live TV can offer better household value when you want its included Hulu and Disney+ libraries plus ESPN content, and those inclusions are worth the higher plan price to you. The value depends on what your household will actually watch; the bundle’s price alone does not establish a specific savings compared with separate subscriptions.
Rank #2
- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
- Consider it if the included on-demand shows, movies, Disney+ content, and ESPN access are all useful to your household.
- Make sure two simultaneous Hulu + Live TV screens are enough. Disney+’s separately described four-device allowance does not raise the live-TV app’s limit.
- Do not assume the higher-priced Hulu plan removes advertising from live channels. Hulu describes ad distinctions and exceptions across its streaming library and live-TV content; live TV has ad breaks.
Check channels and sports for your location
“100+ channels” is not a guarantee that a particular affiliate, cable network, team, or game is available to you. Both services direct prospective subscribers to check availability by ZIP code. YouTube TV says it has complete local network coverage in over 98% of U.S. TV households; that is a company claim, not a promise that every station is available in every ZIP code. Hulu describes local channels as available in many cities.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBefore choosing, verify the local ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC affiliates you need, along with any must-have cable networks. For sports, check the specific team, event, and local or regional rights: availability can vary, and blackouts may apply. A channel appearing in a general lineup description does not guarantee access to every event carried by that network.

- 4K streaming made simple:With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- 4K picture quality: With Roku Streaming Stick Plus, watch your favorites with brilliant 4K picture and vivid HDR color.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
Compare the DVR and stream limits carefully
Both services advertise unlimited DVR, but the claim does not mean their recording terms are identical. Hulu specifies that live recordings are stored for up to nine months and that its unlimited DVR does not cover on-demand shows. The reviewed YouTube TV page confirms unlimited cloud DVR but does not state a retention period in the available information, so its retention should not be assumed to match Hulu’s.
Count simultaneous viewing separately from household accounts or device allowances. YouTube TV states up to three simultaneous streams and six household accounts. Hulu’s two-screen limit applies to Hulu + Live TV; Disney+ is described separately as streaming on four devices. These app-specific figures are not interchangeable.

Check device compatibility before signing up
Both services list support for select Roku devices. YouTube TV also lists select Fire TV, Apple TV, Samsung, LG, Vizio, Hisense, and Xbox devices. Hulu lists select Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV, Samsung and LG TVs, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, among others. Exact supported models vary, so check the current device list for your specific television or streaming player. You may not need new hardware if you already own a supported device.

- Enter your ZIP code on each service’s availability or signup page and compare the local affiliates and cable networks you actually watch.
- Count live-TV viewers. If three people may watch live TV at once, YouTube TV’s stated allowance fits better than Hulu + Live TV’s two screens.
- List the bundle content you will use. Factor in Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN access only if your household wants those libraries and programming.
- Check your sports. Confirm teams, events, local rights, and possible blackouts rather than relying on a general sports-channel list.
- Confirm your device model against the service’s current compatibility information before paying or buying equipment.
