YouTube Music’s 2025 Recap includes an optional AI feature called “Ask about your listening”. It lets eligible users ask questions about their personalized listening history or choose suggested prompts. Treat its answers as a way to explore Recap—not as a complete or authoritative record of everything you heard.
What the AI feature does—and how it differs from YouTube Recap
YouTube Music Recap turns listening history into personalized highlights such as top songs, artists, genres, and, for some eligible listeners, podcasts. The AI chat adds an interactive layer: select a suggested question or type your own, and it generates a response based on your YouTube Music history. YouTube cautions that response quality and accuracy may vary. The chat is not a guaranteed transcript of every listen. YouTube Music Help: View your YouTube Music Recap
The broader YouTube Recap and YouTube Music Recap are connected but distinct views. YouTube’s broader Recap focuses on interests and patterns in watch history, with up to 12 cards in its 2025 announcement. Music listeners can open a deeper listening recap in YouTube Music, with music and podcast insights; the “Ask about your listening” chat belongs to that Music Recap experience. YouTube announced the broader Recap on December 2, 2025, with a North American launch followed by a rollout elsewhere that week. YouTube’s 2025 Recap announcement

- Open the YouTube Music app and sign in to the account whose listening history you want to explore.
- Tap your profile photo, then choose Your Recap.
- Tap Get your Recap, then look below the Recap stories for the Ask about your listening shelf.
- Tap a suggested prompt or enter a question. You can save or share Recap playlists and story cards as well.
You may also reach the standalone Music Recap through eligible paths in the YouTube app. To find the broader YouTube Recap, YouTube’s December 3, 2025 guide points to the You tab in the mobile app or youtube.com/recap on desktop. That broader experience may link eligible music listeners to the deeper year-in-audio recap in YouTube Music. YouTube’s guide to finding, sharing, and saving Recap

- Your favorite music and content – Play music, audiobooks, and podcasts from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and others or via Bluetooth throughout your home.

Create routines to automatically turn on lights when you walk into a room, or start a fan if the inside temperature goes above your comfort zone.
- Do more with device pairing – Fill your home with music using compatible Echo devices in different rooms, or create a home theatre system with Fire TV.
- Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.
Who qualifies for the 2025 Music Recap?
YouTube Music Help’s 2025 year-end criteria require at least 10 hours of music listening from January 1 through November 15, 2025. That is an eligibility threshold, not a measure of typical listening. Seasonal Recaps have a separate threshold of at least 4 hours of music listening across YouTube platforms during the season. YouTube Music Help
Podcast highlights have additional conditions: for 2025 year-end podcast cards, you must qualify for Music Recap and have at least 2 hours of podcast listening between January 1 and November 15, 2025. For a podcast show to appear as a top show, YouTube Music Help says it needs at least three long watches and at least 30 minutes of total watch time for that show. These are separate criteria from the overall music threshold.

Availability varies by location, age, account, and history settings
The Help Center lists the AI chat in English and Spanish in Australia, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Aruba, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela. It says the chat is available only to users over the applicable age of consent; users under 18 in the UK and Ireland do not have access. These availability rules can change, so the feature may not appear for every account or in every location.
YouTube Music Help describes two weeks of Recap chatbot access for free users and access for paid users until the 2026 Winter Recap becomes available. Check the current Help Center guidance for account-specific access, since the duration is tied to the Recap period.

History settings and listening patterns can also affect eligibility or what appears:
- Paused watch history is not included. YouTube advises checking that auto-delete is not set to remove activity older than three months.
- Recap is unavailable to users who mostly listen to made-for-kids music or podcasts.
- Podcast Recap excludes shows migrated from Google Podcasts and podcasts added through RSS.
- The Help Center lists minimum Android versions for accessing Recap in the YouTube and YouTube Music apps; check that page if the app does not show the feature.
If you meet the listening threshold but cannot find the chat, confirm that you are signed in to the right account, that history was being saved, and that Recap and chat are available for your location, age, and account. Having the general YouTube Recap does not by itself guarantee access to every Music Recap component.

What to know before asking the AI about your listening
YouTube states: “AI-generated responses do not reflect the views of YouTube.” It also says answer quality and accuracy may vary. Use the chat to explore patterns surfaced by Recap, not to settle disputes about whether a specific song or podcast was played.
YouTube says it collects data about use of the tool, submitted queries, and feedback to provide, improve, and develop its services. Conversations connected with a Google Account are automatically deleted after 45 days. Conversations disconnected from the account and reviewed by human reviewers may be stored separately for up to 3 years. YouTube says reviewers may read and process conversations for product quality, alongside privacy safeguards, and advises users not to submit confidential information or anything they would not want a reviewer to see. Google Photos integration is optional
YouTube Music can pair Recap with a musical photo album using Google Photos, but this is an optional integration—not a requirement for the listening recap or AI chat. It requires opting in and having photos available in Google Photos; YouTube Music Help says users can later manage or opt out of the feature.
