If your YouTube 24/7 stream keeps disconnecting, first find out whether the encoder is losing its connection to YouTube or viewers are having playback trouble. Check YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health messages and your encoder’s output, then test outbound upload capacity under normal network use. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% upload headroom above the stream’s total bitrate. The available official guidance is general, not evidence that Indian internet connections have a unique or widespread disconnection problem.
First identify what is disconnecting
A viewer’s playback buffering is not necessarily a failure of your live stream. Start by noting what you can observe at the time of the problem: an encoder warning, a YouTube Live Control Room error, a stream that ends, or reports from viewers that playback stalled. Record the times and compare them with the encoder and YouTube health messages.
- Only one viewer has trouble: their device or internet connection may be the issue.
- Several viewers on the same network have trouble: investigate that shared network.
- Viewers on different networks report trouble, or the encoder reports a dropped connection: investigate the encoder, its settings, and its outbound connection.
YouTube Live Control Room shows stream health and error messages. Use the specific message and its timestamp to guide the next check rather than changing settings at random. See YouTube’s live stream troubleshooting guidance and Live Control Room instructions.
Check the encoder before blaming the ISP
Inspect the encoder’s output while the stream is running. If its local preview or recording is already freezing, silent, or otherwise faulty, the problem may be with the encoder, computer load, or audio/video inputs—not the internet connection. Check encoder error messages and CPU load, and update the encoder software if it is out of date. YouTube’s troubleshooting steps recommend checking the encoder and stream setup as part of diagnosing live-stream problems.

- Does the time of the encoder warning match the YouTube Live Control Room warning?
Measure upload capacity under normal use
For a live stream, the important direction is upload: that is the data your encoder sends to YouTube. A high download-speed result alone does not establish that your connection can sustain the stream. YouTube notes that inbound bandwidth is often greater than outbound bandwidth, and that other people or devices using the connection can reduce what is available to the encoder. Its streaming tips state: “The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available.”
Test outbound bandwidth while the connection is being used as it normally is during the stream. Compare the result with the total outgoing stream bitrate, including audio, and leave roughly 20% extra upload capacity, as YouTube recommends. A quiet-network speed result may overstate the capacity available during a busy period.

Match bitrate and stream settings to your connection
If your available upload cannot sustain the current stream bitrate with headroom, reduce the bitrate or resolution. Match the settings to the codec and frame rate you actually use: YouTube’s recommendations vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate. The following are its H.264 recommendations for two common settings—not measurements of Indian internet service:

| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
For other codecs, resolutions, or frame rates, check YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate recommendations rather than applying these H.264 figures universally. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), keyframes every two seconds, and says not to exceed four seconds. It also recommends RTMPS for ingestion. Check Live Control Room for warnings about bitrate, codec, audio format, keyframes, stream dimensions, or connection setup before making a change.

Isolate Wi-Fi and the local network
If the encoder is on Wi-Fi, try a wired Ethernet connection for a diagnostic run if practical. This removes Wi-Fi signal quality and interference as variables; it does not prove the ISP is at fault or guarantee that the stream will stop disconnecting. A suitable Cat 6 Ethernet cable can be used for this test, but changing cables cannot repair an ISP-side problem.
Also check whether other devices are uploading or whether other people are using the connection heavily when drops occur. If the issue appears only under shared use, repeat the test under that same load and compare available upload with the stream’s total bitrate.

If you use a backup encoder, test failover
YouTube says primary and backup streams must use matching settings for failover. If you have configured a backup encoder, verify that its stream settings match the primary. YouTube’s streaming tips describe testing failover by stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable. Perform the test deliberately and confirm in Live Control Room that the backup takes over as expected.
When to contact your ISP
If the encoder output is healthy but realistic upload or connectivity tests show a problem, contact your ISP. Provide the test results, the times of the drops, and whether the test was over Ethernet or Wi-Fi. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance advises contacting the ISP when internet testing identifies a connection problem.

Do not assume that an Indian provider, a particular carrier, or the country’s internet service as a whole is responsible without evidence from your own connection. Available upload capacity and reliability need to be checked at your location and on your plan.
Common symptoms and what to check
| Symptom | What to check next |
|---|---|
| Encoder reports a lost connection | Compare the event time with Live Control Room health messages; measure outbound upload under normal load; check Wi-Fi versus Ethernet. |
| Local preview or recording is faulty | Check encoder errors, CPU load, and audio/video inputs before treating it as an ISP problem. |
| Only one viewer reports buffering | Ask that viewer to check their device and connection; do not assume the broadcast itself dropped. |
| Many viewers on different networks report problems | Check encoder health and Live Control Room messages for ingestion or stream-configuration errors. |
| Warnings mention bitrate or stream format | Match the bitrate and format to YouTube’s guidance for the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate. |
| Backup encoder does not take over | Verify primary and backup settings match, then test failover deliberately. |
