Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that Iran was “ready to fold up,” saying: “You can win every day in your own imagination. But reality is shaped by Iran—by its people, its soldiers, and its missiles.” CBS News and Tasnim reported that Rezaei posted the response on X on Friday, October 2, 2026, a day after Trump made his remarks at a public event in Denton, Texas.
What did Mohsen Rezaei say to Trump?
In the X post reported by CBS News and Tasnim, Rezaei said: “You can win every day in your own imagination. But reality is shaped by Iran—by its people, its soldiers, and its missiles.” He also wrote, according to those reports: “After one failure after another, the worst president in American history just keeps talking—and talking—and now his words have even outrun his own fantasies.”
Hindustan Times and Tasnim identify Rezaei as secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. The quotations are attributed through news reports; the cited coverage does not include a transcript or recording of the post.
When did Trump say Iran was “ready to fold up”?
CBS News reported that Trump made the remark on Thursday night, October 1, at a Peterbilt Motors facility in Denton, Texas. The outlet quoted him as saying: “We have a war going on with a country that will never have a nuclear weapon and is ready to fold up.” CBS also reported that Trump predicted the United States would win “right after the election,” while allowing that it could happen before the November midterms. Rezaei’s response followed on Friday, October 2.

What was happening in diplomacy?
The exchange came amid efforts to end the war. On September 30, The Associated Press reported that Iranian officials said they had received an official U.S. response to Tehran’s latest proposal. The officials did not disclose what the response said or state whether it was a rejection. The available reporting therefore does not establish the response’s substance or the status of the proposal.

No. Trump’s prediction and Rezaei’s rebuttal are competing political claims, not independent evidence of battlefield conditions or the war’s eventual outcome. The reported remarks establish what each side said; they do not, on their own, verify either side’s assessment.
