On November 22, 2023, the Yocto Project announced its Nanbield 4.3 release, welcomed Witekio as a Gold Member, and shared plans for a virtual summit scheduled for November 28–30, 2023. The release announcement highlighted security-process improvements, year 2038 time fixes for 32-bit systems, prebuilt build artifacts, and updated contributor documentation.
What Nanbield 4.3 announced
Nanbield 4.3 was announced on November 22, 2023. Its release notes highlighted several areas of work rather than a single headline change:
- Security processes: Improvements to the project’s security processes.
- Year 2038 time handling: Time-related fixes for 32-bit systems, whose time representation can encounter limits as the year 2038 approaches.
- Prebuilt artifacts: Artifacts intended to accelerate builds. The announcement did not report a quantified build-time improvement.
- Contributor documentation: A new contributors guide.
- Component updates: Updates across project components.
The announcement describes the scope of these changes, but it does not establish benchmark results or a measured performance gain. Nanbield 4.3 is a release announced in 2023, not a claim about which Yocto Project version is current today. Yocto Project release announcement.
Why Witekio joined as a Gold Member
The Yocto Project said Witekio joined as a Gold Member and would support advocacy and community visibility. Richard Purdie, Yocto Project Lead Architect and Linux Foundation Fellow, emphasized the value of work that helps projects educate and reach their communities: “Advocacy and Training are critical functions of open source projects that tend to receive less fanfare than other project functions.”

Purdie also said, “Witekio brings expertise and funding, enabling us to do more on behalf of our community.” Witekio CEO Samir Bounab said, “We are incredibly proud to be recognised as a Gold Member of the Yocto Project.” The announcement does not specify a funding amount or establish particular governance powers or member privileges.
Witekio’s own account describes its embedded software services and contributions of staff time to educational events and outreach. That provides context for its stated advocacy role, but the membership announcement is not an assessment of the company’s services. Witekio’s announcement.

What was planned for the 2023 virtual summit
The Yocto Project Virtual Summit was scheduled for November 28–30, 2023. The release announcement named two sessions:
- Pierre Gal: A talk on automated testing.
- Marta Rybczynska: Updates on security and tooling, including CVE scanning and SPDX SBOM generation.
The Linux Foundation’s announcement listed registration at USD 40 for this November 2023 event. Both the dates and price are historical; they are not a current event schedule or registration offer. Linux Foundation announcement.

The November 22 post brought together a software release, a membership announcement, and notice of a forthcoming event. Nanbield 4.3 described project changes; Witekio’s membership was framed around expertise, funding, and advocacy; and the summit program focused on automated testing, security, and tooling. The sources do not provide independent adoption or market-impact figures, so these announcements should not be read as evidence of a quantified change in Yocto Project usage.
