Yes—according to an October 2 report, Yankees manager Aaron Boone plans to use Carlos Rodón as an ALDS starter against the Tampa Bay Rays, in Game 3 or, if necessary, Game 4. The specific game has not been settled in the sources available, and this is a reported plan rather than an official game-day pitching announcement.
What is Rodón’s reported ALDS role?
RotoWire reported on October 2, citing The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner, that Boone planned for Rodón to start Game 3 or a potential Game 4 of the American League Division Series against Tampa Bay. The report does not establish which game Rodón will start, and it is not a Yankees game-day confirmation. RotoWire’s report
Why was Rodón previously mentioned as a bullpen option?
MLB’s September postseason FAQ discussed Rodón as a possible bullpen option for the Wild Card Series. That was a separate round and an earlier roster discussion; it does not conflict with the later report that he is in the ALDS starting plan. The FAQ also described an assumed Wild Card roster of 12 pitchers and 14 batters, based on the Yankees’ prior-year approach—not a confirmed ALDS roster or pitching assignment. Rodón’s 2026 season and injury timeline
MLB’s player profile lists Rodón at 6–3 with a 2.94 ERA in 14 starts and 70.1 innings during the 2026 regular season. Those figures describe his regular-season results; they do not predict his postseason performance. MLB player profile

Rodón underwent surgery in October 2025 to remove a bone spur from his left elbow. At the time, the Yankees said he was not expected to be ready for Opening Day 2026 and projected a possible return in April or early May. That was a preseason forecast, not his current status: MLB’s transaction history records that the Yankees activated him from the 15-day injured list on August 18, 2026.
