XRPL’s stablecoin total measures the value of stablecoin tokens tracked on the ledger—not the amount of XRP their users hold or need. XRP is separately used for transaction costs and ledger reserves, but the stablecoin figure alone cannot reveal the aggregate XRP balance tied to that activity.
How much stablecoin value is on the XRP Ledger?
When retrieved on October 9, 2026, DefiLlama’s live XRPL dashboard showed approximately $1.319 billion in stablecoins. It attributed approximately $1.228 billion to RLUSD, with displayed dominance of 93.04%. These are time-sensitive tracker readings, not audited totals; the dashboard can change, and providers may count differently. DefiLlama’s XRPL dashboard is the source for that dated snapshot.
The $1.34 billion headline is a rounded figure, and the observed tracker reading was lower. It describes stablecoin value attributed to XRPL at a point in time. It does not describe XRP balances.

XRPL tracker totals are not the same as RLUSD-wide totals
Ripple’s transparency page reported $2,409.0 million in RLUSD circulating and $2,531.5 million in reserve funds as of September 24, 2026. Those are RLUSD-wide figures, not the amount circulating on XRPL alone. They should not be substituted for a chain-specific tracker reading. Ripple’s RLUSD transparency page identifies the scope of its figures.

What XRP users need to transact and hold assets on XRPL
XRPL’s protocol has XRP requirements that are separate from the value of issued stablecoins. The current Mainnet documentation retrieved October 9, 2026 lists a 1 XRP base reserve and a 0.2 XRP owner reserve per ledger object. Reserves are XRP held to meet ledger requirements, not fees paid to another party. The reserve settings can change through validator fee voting, so these are current documented settings rather than permanent constants. See the XRP Ledger documentation on reserves.
The minimum standard transaction cost is 10 drops (0.00001 XRP). The cost is destroyed, not transferred to a recipient, and may increase with network load; some transaction types have different costs. The XRP Ledger’s transaction cost documentation explains the fee mechanics.

Stablecoins on XRPL are issued currencies, not XRP. XRPL describes issued currencies as depending on an issuer’s promise to redeem tokens for an outside asset, and users establish trust lines to hold them. Holding a stablecoin therefore does not mean holding an equivalent amount of XRP. See the documentation on fungible tokens.
Reserves and fees do not determine one universal XRP balance
An account’s reserve requirement depends on its ledger objects, while transaction costs depend on its transactions and network conditions. The basic reserve and minimum fee figures describe protocol rules; they do not establish how many XRP stablecoin users collectively hold. In addition, sponsorship can let another account cover fees or reserve requirements. XRPL notes that sponsorship does not transfer XRP into the sponsored user’s wallet. The sponsorship documentation describes this arrangement.
Why stablecoin capitalization cannot quantify XRP demand
The stablecoin total says nothing on its own about the number of XRP held by stablecoin users, whether those users fund reserves and fees themselves, or how frequently the stablecoins change hands. Nor does it identify XRP held by issuers, exchanges, market makers, or sponsors for related operations. The cited tracker, issuer, and protocol sources do not provide an aggregate XRP balance attributable to stablecoin activity.

A dollar of stablecoins on-ledger is not a dollar of XRP demand. The tokens are distinct assets with different roles: stablecoins represent issued value subject to an issuer’s redemption promise, while XRP is used for XRPL transaction costs and reserves. The documented mechanics establish XRP requirements for using the ledger, but do not show that growth in stablecoin capitalization by itself causes XRP price appreciation.
How to read XRPL stablecoin and XRP figures
| Figure or mechanism | What it tells you | What it does not tell you |
|---|---|---|
| XRPL stablecoin tracker value | Approximate dollar value of stablecoin tokens the tracker attributes to XRPL at the time of its reading. | Total XRP held or required by stablecoin users. |
| RLUSD-wide circulating supply and reserves | Issuer-reported RLUSD totals across the scope of Ripple’s transparency reporting. | RLUSD circulating on XRPL alone. |
| XRP reserves | XRP an account must hold to satisfy ledger requirements, based on its ledger objects and current settings. | A fee paid to another party, or a direct measure of stablecoin value. |
| Transaction costs | XRP destroyed when transactions are processed; the standard minimum and actual costs can differ. | An aggregate XRP balance held by users. |
| Sponsored costs or reserves | Protocol expenses that another account may cover for a user. | XRP transferred into the sponsored user’s wallet. |
Reserve settings have changed before
The XRP Ledger Foundation said the 1 XRP base reserve and 0.2 XRP per item settings took effect on December 2, 2024, replacing earlier settings of 10 XRP and 2 XRP. The base transaction cost remained 10 drops at that time. This history is a reminder that reserve figures can change: check current XRPL documentation or query the network when exact live settings matter. The Foundation’s 2024 announcement records the change.
