XREAL AURA is not a Google-branded product, and its final price has not been announced. XREAL says the Android XR glasses are expected in Fall 2026 and that the base model will cost no more than US$1,500 before tax. Meta has announced a US$1,299.99 price for its VR Glasses, planned for sale in Spring 2027. The products are shaping up as different approaches to spatial computing, but confirmed details are too limited to declare a winner.
Who makes AURA, and what is Google’s role?
AURA is an XREAL product. Google supplies the Android XR platform: in its June 16, 2026 announcement, Google described AURA as XREAL’s first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR. Calling it “Google’s Xreal Aura” therefore overstates Google’s role; “XREAL AURA, powered by Android XR” is more accurate.
What do the two products cost?
| Product | Announced price | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| XREAL AURA | Base model will not exceed US$1,500 before applicable taxes, according to XREAL’s product page, accessed October 7, 2026. | That is a price ceiling, not a final price. XREAL says final pricing and configurations will be announced closer to launch. |
| Meta VR Glasses | US$1,299.99, announced by Meta in September 2026. | Meta’s announced sale price; sales are planned for Spring 2027. |
The “$1,279” figure in the original headline is not supported by the official announcements. AURA could ultimately cost less than, equal to, or more than Meta’s glasses; its announced ceiling does not settle that comparison.
When are they expected to launch?
XREAL expects AURA to launch in Fall 2026. Its product page lists the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea and several European countries among supported launch regions, while noting that shipping timing depends on the official launch time in each region. Meta says its VR Glasses are planned for sale in Spring 2027. If both schedules hold, AURA is due first, but neither window is a guarantee of a specific delivery date.
#1 Best Overall
- XREAL's Self-Developed X1 Spatial Computing Chip: Delivers Native 3DoF tracking with ultra-low 3ms M2P latency, ensuring stable visuals even during rapid movements. With the optional XREAL Eye, full 6DoF spatial anchoring. It delivers high processing power, seamless compatibility with devices, and distortion-free visuals through advanced stabilization.

Its advanced anti-glare design minimizes reflections and light interference, enhancing clarity and immersion.
- Experience True AR with 6 DoF, Spatial Anchor Anytime: Pairing with XREAL Eye, anchor your screen anywhere in your room, so it stays perfectly fixed in place—even as you walk around, lean in, or change your position. Unlike 3DoF, which keeps the screen at a constant distance relative to your head movements, 6DoF keeps your virtual screen locked to a real spot in your space for true spatial freedom and a more natural, immersive AR experience.
- REAL 3D – Turn everything you watch into an immersive 3D experience: REAL 3D Now Available on All One Series Glasses, instantly transforming all your content—from games and movies to apps and photos—into true 3D with a single switch. Powered by Sony’s 0.55' Micro-OLED display technology and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, get swept into your games or movies with immersion that rivals traditional home theaters—without the size, setup, or space concerns.
How do their display approaches and intended uses differ?
XREAL AURA: see-through XR glasses
XREAL lists a 70° optical see-through display, so the product is designed to place digital content in view while keeping the physical surroundings visible. The company also describes access to Google Play apps including Google Maps, YouTube, Gemini, Chrome and Photos, along with Gemini AI assistance. These are manufacturer-stated specifications and features, not independent findings about image quality or how well the apps work on the device.
XREAL says AURA’s compute puck combines the Snapdragon Reality Elite platform with its XREAL X1S Spatial Coprocessor in the glasses. The published information establishes a wired glasses product and a compute puck, but does not provide enough detail here to compare battery life, comfort, performance or image quality with Meta’s device.

- YOUR PRIVATE 147” BIG SCREEN, ANYWHERE — Plug the a01+ into your phone, tablet, handheld, or laptop and a giant 147” screen appears in front of you—for movies, gaming, or getting work done on the couch, on a flight, or in bed. A true portable display you wear, in a soda-can-sized 210g case that drops in your pocket.
- ALWAYS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU — The screen follows your view with smooth, stabilized tracking and stays centered as you look around—nothing to anchor or set up, and no drift to reset. Press play and your big screen is simply there.
- 62G — LIGHT ENOUGH TO FORGET — At just 62g, with three nose-pad sizes and flexible temples, the a01+ stays comfortable through a long movie or flight, even lying down.
- LOOKS LIKE SUNGLASSES, NOT A GADGET — A slim, sunglasses-style frame with a signature semi-transparent chassis and neon logo—light and low-profile enough to actually wear out.
- WORKS WITH YOUR USB-C GEAR — No Battery to Charge — Connects and powers over a single USB-C DisplayPort cable: iPhone 15/16/17, iPad, DP-capable Android phones, Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Mac and PC. Nintendo Switch/Switch 2 and older (Lightning) iPhones need an adapter. For long phone sessions, add the XREAL Hub to charge and watch at once.
Meta VR Glasses: immersive media and workspace positioning
Meta’s announcement positions its VR Glasses around immersive media and workspace experiences. That broad positioning is not enough to establish that its display works like AURA’s optical see-through system, or to compare field of view, resolution, tracking or visual quality. Those details should not be inferred from the product names or intended-use descriptions.
What is confirmed about software and prescription support?
AURA runs on Android XR and XREAL says it can access Google Play apps, including the named services above. XREAL also says the glasses support insertable prescription lenses. The announcement does not identify a particular compatible third-party insert or establish prescription-lens support for Meta’s glasses, so those details should be checked against each product’s final specifications.
